not a bad idea, but why on earth grade DLC that isn't even out yet? hell, one of the songs hasn't even been leaked yet as far i know.

Yeah, unless you're not sharing some secret hookup with advanced DLC :P, wait till you've played the songs to draw judgement.

This was just a different approach of how people can show songs they like, songs they don't like and song they think will be good or bad...

Yea with the new DLC next week, I went ahead and threw it in there because I figured it would get low reviews and just wanted to see how well it was taken by people...true one song hasn't been released yet...but I'm not expectin' much from it...

Let's see the grades people...
and if a song isn't out yet, how do you think it might fair...

Pretty bad indeed.

I would have downloaded them all if they were free, or even at a reduced price. This month is a fail based pretty much on selection and associated pricing.

i understand that OP meant this to be a light-hearted thread and all, but it's kind of a flawed method for "grading HMX"...
they are trying to achieve a broad appeal across a massive number of consumers. if they did somehow manage to fill the game with songs that one gamer was 100% happy with, then where does that leave the rest of the planet who doesn't have the exact same tastes as him?
if you didn't like this month then look around for a minute and i'm sure you'll see plenty of others who did. if you're not seeing your tastes being represented at all then you either need to learn to be extremely patient or find another hobby.

The actual sales figures are all that matters.

If they sell as much as they hoped to, then it's a win. If not, then it's varying degrees of fail.

i certainly don't anything about HMX's financial department, but all signs point to them doing a-okay...
even with DLC that doesn't sell incredibly well you have to factor in that those artists probably weren't expecting as much as metallica or the who so they got them at a lower licensing cost and sometimes even include DLC that they know won't make as much cash to please fans.

Each track has it's own associated development cost and expected ROI. It should, at least.

The tracks that bring better ROI should help dictate the future choice of tracks.

So as much as I don't like the second NIN pack, the first one must have sold pretty darn well. I know I bought it, although I don't think I would again.

July 1st and 8th were excellent for me, I bought all the songs. The Who pack very good, although I don't love them. This week I only got Shinedown, NIN is really not appealing to me. Next week I don't know, I don't know the songs, I will have to listen to them. All in all, very very good month, I would say B+ or A-.

i think reznor's cooperation with HMX was a factor as well... i haven't liked any NIN since "the downward spiral", but i do have to admit that the dude seems pretty cool about not turning into a money-hungry super-celeb douchebag.
i bought "march of the pigs" from the first pack and "last" from the new one. neither were big hits for me, but they weren't bad and were at least something different from the norm... plus, as always, some folks were really into them.

This month could be one of the best. Unfortunately, outside of the two blockbuster weeks I didn't/likely won't be getting anything. The Who, RHCP and Rush certainly deserve acclaim for bringing light to this month. I'd say 8/10 for the month would be my assessment. 12 Who songs was just too great for me to consider the other DLC as bringing down the month.

Listen...I don't like NIN, I'm not a RHCP fan and I'm not the biggest Who fan but there's no denying that those are some huge bands....People need to lokk at the DLC more objectively...not just at your personal tastes..All in all hmx has done a good job ...

Which is where the comedic **** starts to occur.
Some of the worst DLC is also some of the best selling DLC. ...With the exception of Cherry Bomb. It sold well, but not massively well. Some of the other constantly-bashed DLCs were massive hits, though.

Yeah I guess I did this wrong from what my original Idea was...
Maybe I should not have used my thoughts as the example as it right away turned people's thoughts into hey why is this this, and that that...

What I really wanted to see was how people felt about...
A.) Each Song released in the last 5 weeks.
B.) What kinda of grade you were giving certain songs...
C.) How people agreed with certain grades, how they didn't
and D.) Just a different way to share our individual thoughts on DLC rather than saying I hate (so and so) by (so in so) so that is so...

I'm actually in school to be a teacher so that is where I got the idea to use the grading system...different approach...

All in all...have some fun with this...don't argue with someone about their thoughts, its just personal opinion...come on now, I know everyone wants to grade, ever since that certain teacher gave you a D on that picture of your favorite bands cover art...he didn't get it, you did...

You grade someone's taste in music by the quantity of music they like? I guess quality doesn't matter at all to you.

Stupid comments like this irritate me...

People people people!!

You forgot we are grading on a very loose curve. With this grading system, the only way HMX would get an A is from DLC whores.

If I get 50 percent of the DLC available, I think that is pretty good by HMX. So 50% is the new B. 60% could be an A.

Also, how can people rate songs 10s when they obviously didn't buy them, and have no idea what it is like to actually play it. Youtube videos never do the DLC justice.

hewhoislikegod
07-25-2008, 10:44 PM
I gave 10's because I didn't get them but, I'm sure someone else did and they like it.

IMO, 10% = good for someone but, not me.

Somewhat unrelated but you Americans have a funky ass grading system. How can an F be something above 50%?

Here is the more logical grading system used here:
under 50%= F
50-59%= D
60-69= C
70-79= B
80-100= A

although often 90-100 is seen as an A+

I guess the crazy American system is there to compensate for the mediocre/easy education system seeing as a lot of people have A averages yet are clearly tools.

In most US schools the grading system is a even 10% split.

90 - 100 A
80 - 89 B
70 - 79 C
60 - 69 D
0 - 59 F

Some scales are slightly different with the lower even 10 not included (90.1-100 A).

But in general this makes more sense than having A be 20% and then even 10s. That kind of scale puts a higher concentration and the top, where the higher concentrations should really be in the middle (which is why many US schools use a pure bell curve or a weight curve).

All that being said I have to give HMX a perfect C.

You guys have a much better high school grading system than we do. I still like the 4.0 GPA system the best, though. I give HMX gets a 3.3.
