I must sound like a total noob asking this but it is relevant to my home rofl.
Anyone who has been to the demos around at the stores, can you confirm the amount of noise the drums output?
Is it loud enough to wake the baby a few rooms away?

Well, you can be pretty soft on them and they won't make much noise.

NO!!!!!!!!!! The drums ROCK bro. Actually, I was surprised at how little noise they made. You'll see when you play them, they really aren't that annoying. Especially if the sound on the TV is up, you won't notice them at all. :D It's awesome!
EDIT: Sorry got kind of excited there. Didn't read the part about the baby.
No, they shouldn't wake the baby if you play soft enough, and have headphones/ sound down on the TV.

hmm, i guess it depends on your baby. My baby goes to sleep when I turn up the volume to a movie or game. Or he gets tired and passes out while watching tv. He's almost 6 weeks old now.
But, it does seem like the drums may sound fairly loud @ home, but honestly, anyone who plays this game turns the volume up drowning out the drum noise. If you were planning on doing headphones or something to try being quieter while the baby sleeps, then he might be able to hear them. Could try jammin' a little softer though, the drums seem to be pretty responsive, even to light hits.

hey thanks.
And I'm really nice, I'm even getting him Rock Band for his 8-week old present! Of course, I've been thinking about starting him out on my atari and intellivision first. Get him to appreciate the consoles of today a little more.

. . . On easy mode maybe..
=P
I played Should I stay or Should I go by the Clash on medium and I found myself wailing on the drums. It was loud, but the TV was louder. When you play the drums in Rock Band.. You lose all control of what you might be doing to the drum set.. You just play the song like your in a trance. ESPECIALLY when a free form fill comes up, THEN YOUz BE TEH AN-I-MAL!
I'd recommend picking up some rubber-tipped drum sticks to reduce drumming noise.. You don't need to, but it might improve your drum set's life span and let you hear the music easier.

Yeah, I've kinda' been thinking about this too because I know when I start playing I'll go all out. I'll start off with just light hits but once I get into it, it will be truly over.
rubber-tipped drum sticks might be the way to go for you though, just to be on the safe side.

Congrats to the new papas here. I'm practically a vet now, got three myself, and let me tell you, you don't want to be super quiet when your kid is sleeping, otherwise you'll ALWAYS have to be super quiet when he/she is sleeping. Let your little guy/gal get used to having a moderate level of noise around at naptime.

your right :), i've already put a large box fan in the room to drown out the noise from my existing noise making activities haha :)

They really did suprise me how quiet they were. Sure if you hammer them, they will be ridiculously loud, but thats with everything. Just play nice ;)

Is that what it is, I couldn't get the first page of this thread to load fully either.

I'm concerned about this as well. The "clack clack clack" of the drums in the videos online really annoys me, and just cranking the volume until you can't hear ambient controller noise anymore isn't always a solution (like, say, if you have a baby in the house!)
Here are some solutions I've been coming up with.
a. TAMA Silent Tips
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Tama-TCP10D-Silent-Tips?sku=440041
Put these little rubber tips on the end of the drumsticks provided with the game, and it should cut down on the noise factor.
b. Deadbeats drumsticks
http://store.drumbum.com/skuSTK-26.html
Made to emulate drumming on a pad without having a pad, these drumsticks have an integrated rubber end with some "spring" to them, which may change the action on the current Rockband drumkit (which, some demo players report, is a little "dead" anyway).
c. "make your own" tips
Use cloth, felt, rubber strips, etc. and wrap it around the end of the drumsticks to create a sound-deadening tip. Some drummers do this with their own drumsticks, in effect creating their own home-made "deadbeats" drumsticks, so why not simply do this with the drumsticks provided with Rockband.
Sadly, I can't find a single online retailer which sells both products, and I don't wish to pay shipping twice, so I think for the moment I'm stuck making my own solution. My local music stores don't carry either product, and no online stores carry both products, and I can't really decide between them. If I'm going to invest cash in this little venture, I only want to pay shipping once. So, for now it is D.I.Y. solutions.

@BodhiWolff: The Tama tips work great, well, I've been using them on a Pacific Digital cheapo USB drum kit for PC, and it's made the kit useable. The kit with standard sticks is plain painful, both to the sound and the feel. It's literally hitting hard plastic.
With the Tama Drumstick Condoms (not the official name, but you get the idea) The sound is manageable, and you get a decent-ish rebound, although a bit week, does allow to make rolls much better than with the bare sticks.
I'm very curious about the Deadbeat sticks, but I think my sticks with Tama tips (I even have 2 pairs), should do the trick - people say the drums aren't that noisy to begin with, so this should do nicely - I'll tell you how they work on Nov. 20th, if you really want to know ;)
