View Full Version : Making The Switch

I am making the switch from ps3 to Xbox 360 when RB2 comes out. Not just to get it earlier but because I have been disappointed with the online support Sony gives (of course it is free, so you kind of get what you pay for.). The switch is only costing me about 120 bucks and that includes buying xbox, game, and all DLC back so it's not that bad of a deal; BUT, I had a few questions if someone could help.
1. Is there a list of DLC with how many MS points each song, pack and album costs? I need to know how many MS points to buy; and is there a discount for using the MS points?
2. Any advice on whether to get the 20 gig, 120 gig or wait a month for the 60 gig?
3. Anything "shocking" that I need to know about Xbox live vs. ps3 online. What are the different levels of Xbox live and what's the difference in features and price, if any. (I am looking online for that but if someone knows of one a link would be great.)
I’m really sad about leaving all my friends on PS3 but I have been disappointed with online play for a while. Any opinions or suggestions are greatly appreciated and I thank all in advance.

Good move. :D
I have the 20gb version, but I am sure I will be upgrading to at least 60 by year's end. If I were buying today, I'd get a larger HD....60 should be plenty for a while.
I bought the Gold XBL membership, but it offers no real advantages for me. Wish I'd stuck with the free Silver.
rockbandcontent.com has all the MSpoints values for all DLC.

3) you have to pay ~$40 bucks a year to play games online. not sure how PS3 does it. Oh, and you'll miss out on PS3 Home (if it ever comes out :)

Right. There's only 2 different levels of Xbox Live. Silver (which is free), and Gold (which costs ~$40-50 per year).
Silver will let you buy DLC and other stuff from the Xbox Marketplace, but will NOT let you play multiplayer games online. You need Gold for that.
And sometimes when free DLC is released (this applies to many games, not just RB), Gold XBL members get access to it a week before Silver members.
Those are pretty much the only differences between the two.

So to play RB I need the gold. Ok, that's part of what I needed to know. Also, does anyone know if you HAVE to use the xbox wireless network adapter to have an internet conection like the ps3 or will a linksys adapter work. MS adapter is pretty expensive even used.

1) Get gold you NEED it to play any multiplayer game online
2) I have the linksys gaming adapter and it works fine with the rest of my linksys wireless connection around my house(aka hooks up and finds my linksys router on a different floor of my house) i just needed to get geek squad to hook it up because I am not smart like that:D but to agree with LankanLatino I am currently using a ethernet cable because of the set up at the time and how it can reach. Also the ethernet cable has better reliablity and connection but if you cant reach your router its fine.
