Is it me or does Scars on Broadway sound awfully familiar to System of a Down, but you know, less crazy and more F*** usage?

It's System of a Down minus the only member of the band that can sing.

Music history lesson/current events: System of a Down is currently on an indefinite hiatus. The result has been the formation of two new groups. The Lead singer's (Serj Tankian) solo project, and the remaining members' group (Scars on Broadway).
Serj's first solo single was "Empty Walls" followed by his second single "The Sky is Over", but for some reason we got "Beethoven's C***" on Rock Band...which is still awesome nonetheless.
Scars on Broadway's first single is "They Say" which will be released next week on Rock Band, Jul. 29

I couldn't care less about System of a Down and my reply was going to be, "I sure hope so."

SoaD - Serj = SoB
Here is the full length version:
(SoaD - (Serj + Bass Player)) + (3 nobodies) = SoB

It sounds different to me, especially his scream in Cute Machines.
they have the album up on www.myspace.com/scarsonbroadway

Knowing this is the case, I am even more disappointed in the song.
The "solos" are atrocious and the main riff sounds blatantly ripped-off from some mid-90s grunge band no one has cared about in a decade. Daron's work with SOAD speaks for itself, he can do better than this.
For pete's sake, give us some good SOAD, something from the first album or Toxicity.

Actually, the band Scars on Broadway is composed of 2 System Of A Down members. The vocalist/guitarist and the drummer.

I think his new role as the main vocalist is negatively affecting the intensity of his guitar playing.

The SoaD bassist, Shavo Odaijan(major SP), isn't a member of SoB. He's in some "spiritual rapcore" band called Achozen.

SoaD - Serj = SoB
No love for Shavo?
SoaD - (Serj + Shavo) = SoB would be better.
Granted, SoB also has three other members nobody will ever care about, and so
(SoaD - (Serj + Shavo)) + (Franky + Danny + Dominic) = SoB
...is the most accurate, amirite?
I'll still end up getting this album, like I did Serj's solo effort. "They Say" is a pretty decent song... but still not SOAD.

Hehe reading this post was frustrating me, seeing everyone forget about Shavo. I wonder if this means we'll also be seeing Achozen to complete the set. (probably not, the whining that would follow would be epic)
I will begrudgingly admit that this is not Daron Malakian's best, but it still will be a fun one that isn't too complex for the casual players out there, and it still sounds cool. I hope the other tracks off this album show off these guys musicianship better, and I can't wait to pick up this album next week

Ha, it seems nobody remembered Shavo until three of us posted in a row about him.
EDIT: Exploding/Reloading sounds like it could of been really fun on guitar, bummer.

I didn't know. I've not kept up to date on them. I guess that really answers my suspicions. I had no idea it was actually them, I thought it was a copy-cat band doing it rather well except for the singer. Heh.

hey, i'm pretty sure shavo isn't a part of SoB, but i may be wrong. i think he's doing, or has done, something with the wu tang clan.

You act like I care about bass.
I kid, I kid.:p
But realistically, serj was way more important to soad than shavo. A band without a good singer is crap....

Haha, I've always liked Shavo though. Granted, if he was ever replaced in SOAD I'd never really be able to tell sound-wise. Especially when you have two vocalists as... unique... as Serj and Daron, those are main things that stand out when listening to SOAD.

Exactly. Nothing to try to knock his skills, but bass is not what you think when you think soad.
Yeah, Serj had an unreal unique voice and Daron is just a whiny emo singer. I put on the collection but the missus gets me to skip the hypnotise/mesmerize songs because of his voice.
I would love it to have the self titled album as DLC. Cubert, Spiders, Aerials and Peephole would be amazing in RB.

Shavo does play bass on a few of the Serj solo tracks. They all circulate alot. I still would like to find a copy of Serart somewhere (another project of Tankian's, pretty hard to find)
I hope SoaD's Indefinite hiatus never becomes a permanent one. It will be a beautiful beautiful day the day they start putting together a new album.

Yea, I definitely think Serj's solo stuff sounds better then Scars on Broadway...but neither are as awesome as SOAD.

If it weren't for the three songs on Elect the Dead that didn't have all of the required instuments, I'd demand it as a full album! Maybe we could get "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition", "Honking Antelope", and "The Unthinking Majority" as a 3-pack, or as a 6-pack with the other songs already getting airplay.

Replace "Honking Antelope" with "Saving Us" and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Just think about doing vocals on "Praise the Lord..." :D

On another note, i've noticed a few songs (i've only listened to the first 7 off the CD, well the first 7 on the myspace for SoB) do sound like SOAD.

i'm not going through the whole thread... but reading the first page, i feel i must at least clear this up:
Scars on Broadway is Daron Malakian (System of a Down's Guitarist, Backup and sometimes Lead Vocalist, main Songwriter) and John Dolmayan's (System of a Down's Drummer) project
so... Scars on Broadway = System of a Down - (Serj Tankian [Lead Vox] + Shavo Odadjian [Bassist])
oh... and go check out Shavo's project, Achozen (featuring members of Wu-Tang Clan) at www.myspace.com/achozen (http://www.myspace.com/achozen)

When you start a post by saying "I'm not going through the whole thread" it is usually a good idea to go through the whole thread.
You didn't need to clear that up, because it had been cleared up multiple times already.
Thanks anyway though.

so... Scars on Broadway = System of a Down - (Serj Tankian [Lead Vox] + Shavo Odadjian [Bassist])
Nah,
(SoaD - (Serj + Shavo)) + (Franky + Danny + Dominic) = SoB
...is still the best equation. Way to totally forget about the as-of-now worthless other members of SoB. :p
But what'd I even post that for? You've already made it clear you're not reading the entire topic. Guess I'm just being a post-count-whore now.
Surrisly though, I'm going to buy any songs released on RB with any combination of SOAD members... I'd just prefer having 4/4 of them instead of 1/4 or 2/4. At least we're getting Chop Suey in RB2, I'd kill for a full Toxicity album download. I'd have to listen to it sometime to make sure it'd all work, but I'm fairly sure it would.

Erm..... "Aerials" isn't on self-titled, it's on "Toxicity". The album closer, in fact. My vote for full album DLC from System definitely goes to "Toxicity". Although either way, they're going to have to censor the hell out of both.
But who am I kidding? I'd be happy with "Mezmerize", "Hypnotize", "Steal This Album!", or self-titled. I am just so happy we're getting System in the game.

I'm not going to read the thread, but Scars on Broadway is SOAD minus Shaggy and Velma, with Scooby taking lead vocals, and adding Dynomutt and the Blue Falcon. Fred is currently working with the Wu-Tang Clan.

Daron's voice is not anywhere near as good as Serj, but in a way I'm wondering if it's even his fault that he's singing. The whole SOAD hiatus thing, I keep getting a sneaky suspicion that it was all Serj's idea... if the other three had their way they would still be SOAD, so in a way, what can DAron do? His best friend left and now he has to take his place since I'm sure he's a better singer than John and Shavo is busy with ACHOZEN.
