View Full Version : Does the PS2 version use USB instruments?

I've been a bit torn. I don't have a PS3 or 360, so I didn't think I would end up getting RB until I did.

Well, recently, I've played the demo, and I've been persuaded that it may warrant a purchase on PS2.

I don't really want to buy all the instruments over again, though I do want to play on PS3/360 when I get one. So, what I'm asking is, does anyone know if the PS2 instruments are USB? Will they be compatible with PS3 at all? Will the lack of a guide button be a serious problem? Do the PS2 instruments just have a deadweight guide button?

Good questions, all.
Unfortunately, no answers have been given. In fact, the only information we know about the PS2 version is that it's being made. That's about it. I really wish that would change, so that we could at least get an IDEA about what to expect. Hell, even just a tidbit would suit me just fine.

Yes, no news is NOT good news in this case. Granted the release date is a month behind the rest, but I'd like to hear at least something. Are the controllers compatible w/ PS3? Are the create-a-character/ create-a-band features the same? WBT?

I've got no reason to suspect that just because it's an outsourced port of the 360/PS3 version it'll be a lesser product, but it sure would be nice to hear it from an official source. Plus after seeing the complete contempt displayed for the PS2 in other games (no Bret Michaels in GH3, a lesser controller, guaranteed lack of DLC, etc), it'd be nice to have some reassurance.

Couldn't agree more. I have a gut feeling that stuff like create-a-character/band will be intact for the PS2, albeit not as graphically impressive. Rock Band stuck with the more "cartoony" look, which the PS2 has been able to handle without too much problems in the past. What I am worried about is the depth of the WBT, and how the instruments will turn out. And I would LOVE a 100% cionfirmation that my current GH controllers will work as a bass.

Basically, I would eat up anything about the PS2 version at this point. Heck, even just let us know which company is doing the port so we can look up some info that way. Anything other that "it's coming". I'm really surprised they haven't followed up with anything about it yet, especially given how user friendly Harmonix has been regarding the Rock Band project to date.

I don't remember the source, but it was stated somewhere in the past that the PS2/PS3 instruments are the same, or at least work with each other. Can't remember which, it's been awhile since I read it.

If you could confirm that, that would be ****ing rad news, I'd be able to get it before I havbe a PS3.

I believe I heard that PS3 controllers would work on the PS2 version, but I don't know if it works for the other way around. They might opt to not put the guide button on it, which could screw it up.

I've been wondering the same thing.
I want to get the bundle as soon as possible, but right now I only have a PS2 (hopefully be getting a PS3 for Christmas), but I also want the DLC, so PS3 would be ideal. However, I also don't want to wait until sometime next year to get the game, so if the PS2 controllers will work on PS3 I'd like to pick up the PS2 bundle and then get the PS3 software when I finally get a PS3.

Anyone find out anymore info on this? I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember reading that the PS2 and PS3 guitars would work on either system, which makes me think that they are all interchangeable.

So far the only source I've found confirming compatibility between the PS2 and PS3 instruments was here:

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/11/05/wireless-guitar-works-with-ps2-and-ps3-versions-of-rock-band/

I'd feel better if that posting cited an actual official source, but it was enough to get me to pre-order a copy of the PS2 bundle. Anyone from harmonix want to super officially confirm this :p?

I'm also in the same boat here.

I can not justify preordering anything until more information on the PS2 version is known.
Guess my kids will get that coal I've been promising this Christmas.

This is why I am getting the game only for now. I will just use my wired SGs and we have a USB mic from Karaoke Revolution for vocals. While drums sound fun, I can't justify getting such a big peripheral for a system with a limited lifespan. So I'lll basically treat RB as a glorified GH/KR combo for now.

If EA gets its act together and releases RB for the Wii, then I will invest in the bundle.
