I'm actually really excited for this movie. Think it has a lot of potential to be great with today's special effects.

I know, just think of how much BROADER the scope of the film can be, waht with all the different tech, that the MCP could include...just mind boggling.

I thought they were remaking "TRON", and then doing "TRON 2.0".

If you go to imdb and type in "TRON", it lists the original from 1982 and a remake set for release in 2010.

A rumor I heard is that Pixar would be doing the FX. Personally, I think ILM should do them, but whatever.

I just wonder what the new MCP will look like. An iPod nano?

Well from the video that is no longer available, it showed, two light cycles, fighting it out, with Jeff bridges, ( from the original ) Meditating (?) when one of the light cycles cutting the other off. Then the other cyclist gets off his ride and pulls the disc off his back, and it lights up all cool like, and the dude hangin off the edge of a cg bridge says, "Its Just a game", and you see Jeff bridges character looking through the face of the light cycle guy with the disc, and he says " Not any more" and then ---end scene.

So doesn't look like a remake, at the very end of the video the movie title pops up on the screen "" T2ON "" . 2010 ( i think but 09 would be cooler ).

I remained pretty excited after first hearing about the movie from this thread. :) I went and saw it today in 3D with some friends of mine and I have to say I wasn't disappointed at all.

I thought it was pretty good. I was amazed by how they made The Dude look like he did 30 years ago, even found myself forgetting that it was CG! I'm not a huge fan of CG action, but I was actually pleased with how they handled bringing Tron into the 21st century. Very contemporary looking, maybe even ahead of its time!

***SPOILER ALERT***

The only thing I was really disappointed with was the way they handled the Tron character and the ending itself. I mean, I pretty much figured out that the guy in the helmet was Tron long before the VERY anticlimactic reveal. Flynn just says "It's Tron" after seeing him chase Quorra down. I was also hoping that he would have a bigger part in the ending. After he miraculously changes sides, I wanted to see him come in during the final confrontation between Clu, Flynn, Sam and Quorra, reveal his face and at least be the one to finish off Clu, after all, they de-aged Bridges, you'd think they could do the same for Boxleitner. Afterall, the movie IS called TRON: Legacy, not FLYNN legacy. Instead he just sinks into the water and turns blue. You'd think So, other than that, I really enjoyed the film, just wish that the ending was handled better.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that Michael Sheen looked kinda like David Bowie in this movie?

No. The resemblance is quite striking. If they ever do a Bowie bio-pic, I vote Michael Sheen play him.

Anyway -

So, I saw the movie on opening night at midnight. Being someone who was very cautious about the movie (see earlier post in this thread), I was impressed. I think the movie was GREAT and it blew me away. The numerous nods to the original made me very happy. I liked how the 3D added to the Disc Fighting and Light Cycle scenes. Seeing programs derez as they fall in front of you is an experience.

Personally, I think they did a great job overall. The only thing I could take issue with is the ending. WHAT HAPPENED? After Flynn and C.L.U. 2 merged, WHAT HAPPENED in the computer? Was that virtual world destroyed? What happened to Rinzler/TRON? What happened with Sam and Quorra after they rode off? For me, they left the ending hanging. Are they purposely setting up for TRON 3.0?

The ending isn't the only wonky part of the plot. The whole thing is kind of a wreck in regards to pacing, character motivations, connecting story points, etc. But damn, it's pretty. Which is all I was really expecting to begin with, so I was mostly pleased.

Also, they are definitely, definitely, definitely, definitely, definitely setting up for another sequel. Probably two. Hollywood loves its trilogies nowadays.

But is it really necessary to make it into a trilogy almost 30 years later? It just seems like Disney's milking it. I mean, they could have EASILY ended it right then and there just by having Tron show up and fight Clu at the end.

Well of course it isn't. But whether or not a movie needs or deserves a sequel is completely irrelevant to whether or not it gets one. All that matters is how well they think another installment will sell. Tron Legacy is currently blowing up the box office, and the producers knew that it probably would. So it's only logical to slap another Tron together sometime in the near future to try and get those figures again. I mean, why do you think the last Harry Potter book was split into two movies? Sure, it gave the director room to pace the plot a little better, but it's mainly just a great excuse to get the fans to buy two tickets instead of one.

they de-aged Bridges, you'd think they could do the same for Boxleitner.

They actually did in the earlier scenes when Flynn, CLU and Tron were first exploring and then when CLU turned on them, Boxleitner was Tron from '82. And I agree that he should've been in the film a bit more without his helmet.

I absolutely loved the movie. I've been a fan of the original since I was a kid but I always looked at it as a cheeseball movie. Legacy really made it more serious and kickass. And, I gotta say, one of my favorite things about the entire movie is the score. Daft Punk really knocked it out of the park and I'll be seriously disappointed if they don't at least get an Academy Award nomination (and hopefully a win) for best score. I'll probably end up seeing it in the theater again but I really can't wait for this movie to come out on blu-ray.

I went to the midnight premiere with several friends. I liked it ok, wasn't blown away (but I haven't seen the first one). I LOVE the soundtrack though, listening to that right now. Seeing the movie again tonight, this time in IMAX 3D, maybe I'll like it a bit more

I went with a friend last Sunday, and I loved it in spite of the mixed reviews. I tend to not see "rotten" movies in the theaters, but I wanted to see this so bad that I went, and I felt that was the right choice. I've never seen the original in it's entirety, just the light-cycle scene, so I couldn't really compare. The visuals, designs, action, and music were all fantastic. The plot was admittedly more than a little jumbled, but it was never boring, which is more than I could say for a lot of so called "blockbuster" movies. This movie entertained me, which was exactly what I was looking for. The 3D was very good as well, I don't know why people are saying that it should be skipped out.

I'd love to see a sequel to Tron: Legacy as long as someone else writes it.

Saw it last week and I thought it was excellent! The plot was very simple, but I thought it was just enough to link the pretty action scenes together. And man was it ever pretty. As everyone else has pointed out, the soundtrack is superb and I'll be picking my copy up.

I still do not understand all the hate coming from certain sources (coughgawkercough), and I can only assume they were expecting a different movie than I was.

I liked it.

While I certainly rate the movie higher than he did, I have to agree with the Filthy Critic (http://www.bigempire.com/filthy/tronlegacy.html) in that only Jeff Bridges really seemed to know how to wink at the camera while staying in character. Everyone else was maybe a little too serious for their own good. But even so, it was an excellent follow-up to the original... except for "young" Flynn and Klu. That CG animatronic mannequin that sort of looked like a younger Jeff Bridges was definitely in the "uncanny valley."

I also agree with my roommate who thought the de-rez'ings looked rather graphic (no pun intended) for a PG movie.

And yes, the music was also excellent. It's been a long time since I've thought about buying a movie soundtrack (I think Titanic was my last, not counting The Phantom Menace which I got as a gift), but I just might have to grab this one.
