So when it was announced..I was very happy, even moreso because I have been a Boston fan for a long time..

People want more Boston, and hell, I love Boston, but after this it's basically all down-hill.

When you sort the songs alphabetically by band, "the who" is in the w's, not the t's.

Since it's in the w's, and they're on disc, well, so much for none of the bands starting with t-z.

T U V W X Y Z = the only letters in that range. 20% OF THE RB2 BANDS ARE GOING TO START WITH ONE OF THOSE? When they're all different bands? (supposedly)?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh... no. Look at the % of songs in rb1 that are from bands with those letters. Anywhere near 20%? How unlikely is that?

0 U's, 0 X's 0 Z's............ (off the top of my head, and I can only think 'vesuvius' for v... and I'm tired).

I think it's a pretty important decision, you should be able to be almost 100% sure they didn't just go "duuuuuuuuh, let's just arrange all the songs by band alphabetically and take the last 20 out, urrrrrrrrrrr"

You can bet they're the 20 weakest songs, "rb1 only" players aren't going to randomly get some of the best songs for free.

I've tried several, but not a one has shown up yet. I've come close -- I asked for "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, and we're getting "Go Your Own Way." Still a good choice, and DLC hopes always look better for bands already in the game.

At first, under "Reasons why I am requesting this song," I tried to demonstrate in detail why the songs I was asking for would be good. Analyzing the instrument mix, pointing out ways in which they were different from other songs we already have in the game. You know... trying to put thought into it and present a real case stronger than just "cause this song would totally ROCK!"

But that didn't work. So now I'm trying humor. For example, I asked for "Sex Machine" by James Brown because I know somebody would put up a totally hysterical Vocals video of that on You Tube. And I asked for "Satan is My Motor" by Cake because now that we're going to have "Spirit in the Sky" in Rock Band 2, I figure that would make a great 2-song set. (N.I.B. will have to do until then.)

I personally don't get or appreciate that "Reason why I am requesting this song" deal.

Why do we have to bother with that and do our requests get ignored if we don't give a good enough reason in their eyes? What's wrong with the fact that we just love the song and think it would make a great addition? I don't feel like we should have to go into thorough detail about every aspect of a song to get them to consider it. They are the musicians so one would think they would know about the song and wouldn't need us to tell them about it.

I'm afraid that with Queen, master tracks are the issue. Guitar Hero 1 had Killer Queen, but since then, they haven't surfaced. I'm thinking that they can get the licensing, but multi-tracks with Freddy Mercury's voice simply don't exist.

This has been brought to my attention before, unfortunately. I'm not upset with Harmonix, just the situation. Seeing Queen in this game is almost like a dream, and I'm sure they've pursued it for me but just can't make any headway with the masters (like you said).

Makes me sad when I think about it.

Good news is, Queen isn't the only band I like. Harmonix has kept me feelin' satisfied since day one (sorry for the Boston plug ;))

Edit: well, actually, there was a period of about 2 weeks during the peak of RB2 speculation when I was a little upset about them being tight-lipped, but in hindsight they made the best decision, and I was just being an ass :)

Whilst i understand your disappointment, you also need to understand something, posting negatively isn't going to get you songs.

Harmonix are not Miracle Makers all the time, and some songs people request take miracles to get. Now, your requests may be in the pipeline, peoples needs a wants all have to be seen to. So, you will eventually get 3/4 weeks of your 'type' of music, but so will everyone.

I have a varied like for music, so, i'm lucky with this game =]

And I have a very varied taste in music as well. Of the 200 or so songs I suggested they are all from different genres and decades.

It's just when you request so many and not only do you not see the song, but you don't even see the band, it gets a little frustrating. I mean, looking at your list, you must be the happiest RB player alive. They seem to fulfill every request you make.

They may or may not exist. The good news is that they were on the cutting edge in terms of recording techniques so they did have multi-track masters at one point. The bad news is that the various tracks were so layered that they just may not be useable. I posted a while back that there was a Classic Albums episode dedicated to A Night at the Opera, and they talked about essentially running out of tracks due to so many layers, and in some cases having to share a vocal track with guitar. :( Of course, that doesn't mean that there aren't any masters that would work out there somewhere for some of their stuff.

Anyway, I can't remember if I've submitted any through the Request a Song option, but I've done so in the Ultimate Setlist. Everlong is on the way (which tops my list of FF songs I'd like to see along with DOA). Sadly, Tom Petty and Clapton have yet to surface. And I'd like to see some 80's hair bands like a lot of folks. Otherwise, a lot of RB2's list, as well as some DLC, reads like what I would have requested.

Rock Band 2 having Silversun Pickups has been the best thing that has happened to me in any music game EVER. Their song "Lazy Eye" was literally the one song I wanted to plat in RB and the fact that it's actually happening is ****ing WONDERFUL!

I guarantee a lot of people will really like this song if they never heard it before. Also, long songs are usually fun and this one is about 6 minutes long with a good 2 minute solo at the end.

I was not sure if they only take one request or a few? It seems that some people could abuse it and ask for a 100 songs or so... I have tried to be restrained while getting my very faves out.

"Zero" and "Today" by Smashing Pumpkins were another of my spam requests.
"Spoonman" by Soundgarden was yet another one.
"White Wedding pt 1" by Billy Idol I only requested once or so, but I'd prefer "Rebel Yell" or something more like, musicy, by him.

Other than that, I generally just request things that seem kind of obvious (even though it may not be my top desired song). Offspring said a bunch of their stuff I requested is going in at some point, so that's good. I spam request Jimi Hendrix things, because like, come on already. I also spam request Green Day and things like Elvis and Chuck Berry.

I sometimes request my top songs, which aren't too obvious, like things by Thursday or Marilyn Manson (except you'd think Manson would be a pretty obvious thing). I request some odd things too, like Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting by Elton John. More OK Go would be pretty nice. You'd think they'd be totally fine with one of their albums being full DLC.

Incidently, even though I haven't requested them, there's probably upwards of 20 songs that I had listened to on a regular basis showing up in Rock Band 2, but figured they wouldn't make good songs in Rock Band and didn't request them. I find it amusing that they are showing up on the disc and wonder if Harmonix is tapping my Winamp playlist for ideas. *tin foil hat*
