View Full Version : New Xbox 360 Owner / Bass Guitar Help

Hello,

I will be buying an Xbox 360 primarily for RB. I don't have any other guitars spare 2 Red Octane Wireless guitars for the PS2 (I'm an owner of GH2 & GH 80s for the PS2).

I don't want to buy RB for the PS2 and don't have much of an interest in GH3 (more of the same) for the Xbox 360.

With this is mind, how do I buy RB and have full functionality with the bass guitar? (additional frets, sound change options, etc). I'm still a bit surprised that RB will be released as a bundle without the bass but I wil not be able to buy the bass until February of next year.

Is there a way to buy another guitar at launch or another guitar that has full bass functionality on launch. Thanks for any help you can give me.

yes, you can buy the GH2 xplorer, or the gh3 les paul(im not sure if this one works on RB or not though). but if you want to wait until the strats come out for individual sale go ahead.

edit: i see you're wanting the additional options for the bass. the extra frets are for guitar solos, which basses don't have, and i'd assume the sound change options would have no effect with the bass. i may be wrong though.

Welcome to the forums!

Yeah, the GH2 X-plorer has been confirmed to work as a guitar. The GH3 Les Paul has also been confirmed by various game reviewers that it will also work, but I don't know when GH3 will start selling individual guitars either, because I haven't seen any around.

And like it's been said you will have to wait into next year if you want to buy an individual Strat. So it looks like your best bet if you want a bass guitar at launch is the X-plorer.

Thanks to all for your responses. To this note, this is my main concern. Can anyone confirm if the bass in RB uses the additional frets/sound options? I'd hate to buy a separate guitar 3rd party guitar that really doesn't make the game complete. If the bass uses the additional options, I'm mystified as to why RB won't be released with its full capacity (4 players with all guitar button/switch options). Other than releasing the game for the holiday season.

I used the Strat on bass yesterday at Best Buy, and I actually did try to use the FX switch. It did not work (it did with guitar though). The solo fret buttons, however, did work, but it is not required that you use them for guitar or bass.

Hope that answered your question. :D

The bass does not have solos, but you may be able to use the lower frets during the full-band fill sections that some songs have. The effects do in fact work with the bass and you hear the effects whenever you enter overdrive. The wah-wah sounds aweome on the bass btw.

You should be set. There are a lot of people who have guitars, and just want a drum/game combo or a drum/game/mic combo.

Buy two bundles and E-Bay one of the bundles minus the guitar. You just want the guitar, and there are a bunch of folks that don't want to pay extra for the guitar.

This is what bothers me the most. So, unless I buy 2 bundles and sell the 2nd bundle without the guitar there is no way for me to have *full* functionality on the bass (sound effects, solos).

While I'm a big fan of Harmonix and of RB I'm a bit disappointed that they are in essence releasing a game that is not complete. I'm willing to pay extra money for RB because of the experience (4 players, DRUMS, mic, guitar & bass with all effects on the guitars). But not for a game that is incomplete. It still amazes me that they are releasing RB like this. Oh well, I hope I can get my hand on 2 bundles.

Thanks again to all for your responses.

I'm sure it's just a matter of being able to produce enough guitars for the bundles. They aren't trying to piss you off... I mean they are allowing other guitars to work with it.

I'd prefer they released the full, working game before Christmas than waiting until after Christmas for the sole purpose of having sound options on the Bass.

Also, instead of buying two bundles you might have some luck just buying Strats that people don't want on Ebay.
