1954- The first press interview for overnight sensation Elvis Presley is published. The Memphis Press Scimitar attempted to get the 19 year old Presley to say something other than yes or no without much success.

1965 - Rolling Stone Charlie Watts purchased a 16th Century manor house in Sussex

1970 - Jimi Hendrix played his final gig in his home town of Seattle.

1971 - Under the guidance of Producer Bob Ezrin Love It Death from Alice Cooper far surpasses previous efforts and gains the band a record deal with Warner Brothers.

1973 - Summer Jam , a festival held at Watkins Glen Racetrack, featured The Allman Brothers, The Band and The Grateful Dead drew in 600, 000 fans to see the show.

1973 - Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water is released in the US as a single and promptly hits #4, selling a million copies and earns the Band it's only Gold disk for a single.

1973 - Chicago VI from Chicago hits #1 in the US and stays there for 5 weeks.

1973 - Roll Over Beethove from the Electric Light Orchestra hits #42 in the US.

1975 - David Bowie is filming his role in The Man Who Fell To Earth.

1976 - Fly Like An Eagle earns Steve Miller a Gold Album.

1979 - The World Series of Rock is held at the Municipal Stadium in Cleveland OH. The show features performances from Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Journey and Thin Lizzy.

1979 - Let's Go by The Cars peaks at #79 in the UK.

1980 - The Dalmount Festival in Dublin featured The Police and Squeeze. Further down the bill was a local group who released their first single several weeks ago but it failed to chart. That group was U2.

1980 - British Steel earns Judas Priest a Gold Album.

1980 - Ready and Willing(Sweet Satisfaction0 garners Whitesnake a top 40 hit in the UK

1984 - The movie Purple Rain opens nationwide in the US and 4 days later internationally. It is received well by both crtics and film goers and earns Prince a new legion of fans.

1984 - A new deal with Geffen Records Whitesnake's new album Slide It In goes top 40 in the US and the band tours the US extensively opening for Dio.

1989 - Patience from Guns n' Roses is #10 in the UK.

1990 - Aerosmith play the final date of the US leg of their current world tour.

It's interesting reading through all these you've posted so far. I know I used to listen to "Fly Like An Eagle" and "Let's Go" all the time and looking at the years they were on the charts makes me feel........."older".

Yea I hear that, I write it and I'm like "Was it really that long ago?!"

Glad you like 'em, they take some work but it's fun. I'll keep doing it as long as folks here seem to enjoy reading them.

I can't say I was alive when any of these events happened, but it is fun reading about them and imagining I was there!

Hendrix's last gig was 38 years ago? Didn't he die in September?

Last gig in his home town, he did play other shows after that one in other places.
