I played at my local Best Buy last night until an hour before close and the guitar worked great. I came back today about thirty minutes after they opened and it won't freaking down-strum

The BestBuy where I live has a terrible set up.
It isn't advertized very well and everything is laggy.
I tried to calibrate the lag, but the manual calibrate lag option was grayed out.
I'm sure is a great game.
I just hate the bestbuy near me.

Exactly what I mean. Its pretty bad if they are breaking that easy.

I'm sure if they let you calibrate the lag yourself on the demo it would be fine

Out of curiosity...does anyone know if the BB demos use a USB hub, and if so, if it is powered?

I wonder if the apparent malfunctioning of the guitar could be related to how it is set up. I know at the BB closest to me they had a problem where the controllers weren't being recognized at all, but when it was working I also noticed that guitar was difficult to down strum as well (more difficult than the working guitar I played at another BB).

If the instruments aren't getting enough power over USB for whatever reason, weird things could be happening...

Huh - that's a really interesting theory. But I think there must be a hub of some sort, as mine has the drums, a controller, the mic and a guitar hooked up to it.

Yeah I guess there must be a hub. I wonder if they are powered.

Yeah - that'd be really interesting if the demos were being flaky because the 360 was powering everything. Hmm...

Holy Moley I never though of that. There wasnt a HUB on the 360 at my Best Buy. That couldn't 100% be the reason. Woah.

I got back from Best Buy and they had the demo set up. Just the guitar and drums with the 2 note charts going down the screen. The guitar LOOKED pretty good. Drums too. The guitar was all shiny and **** but I never got to actually play ANYTHING because of the 2 people there that were completely murdering every single god damn song they played and STILL would not get off of it. After watching them for about 20 minutes, I left. *******s.

Has anyone noticed how the PS3 demos at Walmart are set up and if anyone has had a problem there?

I did go to Walmart and they did have the "Christmas Shop" set up. I went to it and saw nothing there having to do with games though. Checked in the electronics section too but still nothing. I know it was there but I think it was hidden somewhere.

About the Hub, my BB (Oxford Valley in PA) utilizes a hub, although it's useless because they use an Elite, which has a wireless controller that doesn't need a USB port and which is also freakin' caged up with the 360, so the 1 port in the back and 2 ports in the front is all they need, yet, they probably don't wanna overpower the system. But, they still use it. I know this because, since the mic wasn't reading because the controller is off and caged up with the 360, then a regular person that walks by won't be able to figure out how to use the mic. But me, not so regular.:p I couldn't figure out at first why it kept saying 'Connect Controller' on the 'Join In' screen until I realized, 'Oh yeah, you need a freakin' 360 controller' and I then remembered before the demo arrived that I saw the Elite in a cage with the controller with a 'Rock Band coming soon' sign over it, so, I reached my hand under the fake wooden cover that they put over the 360, felt around for the controller, turned on the controller, and had to navigate without looking(which isn't a problem for gamers;) ), but sideways and I have to do that every time, which is pretty funny.:D

But, what really sucks about the BB RB demo is how they didn't include the bass pedal with the drum set, so people are gonna be really thrown off when they've mastered drums on expert without the bass pedal, pick up the game, and be totally thrown off by the bass pedal. Lucky me, though, I got to go to the tour at Philadelphia's VGXPO yesterday and all day and try the bass pedal for the first time after previewing the drums at BB. So, since I'm a drummer and know how the drums work on RB, started on expert and staying on expert.:D

The Best Buy demo uses the USB hub that comes with Rock Band. Every time I go to my BB the demo is frozen and I just lift up the cover behind the drums and turn it off and back on. The hub is hanging right in front of it. The guitar now doesn't strum down very well any longer also. I hope its from some sort of abuse, rather then overuse, because I know I will be using mine a lot.

Yeah, hopefully it's not a flaw in the strum bar because that would such soooo much a$$. I don't feel like worrying about the strum bar and having to pay another, what, 60 bucks for a friggin' guitar; I just wanna play, Hakuna Matata.:D

The problem with the downstrum isn't a config issue. It's a broken strum bar. Why are they breaking so easily/fast? It's cheap. Let's hope the final guitars aren't this defective.

It's not the reason for failing guitars. Come on, use your brains. Do you really think a hub would cause downstrums to fail, but upstrums to work? They're breaking from use.

If the guitar isn't getting the appropriate power over USB, then yes something weird like that could happen.

We'll know what the real deal is in a couple of weeks.

Check The Lawn and Garden section. I work at a Wal Mart in D/FW Texas, and we had to set up 3 demo stations for the holidays in the Garden center in our store, and Rock Band is there. So you can imagine where i go on breaks and lunch. As far as our Demos go, the PS3 Rock Band is not powered by a hub. Its only the Strat, and Drum set up, so it doesnt need to be. Especially with the PS3's 4 USB ports. But anyway, we also have Scene It as our Xbox 360 demo there in garden center, and when I was setting that up, it had a powered hub with it. I have no idea why they would want a hub set up for it, because its only 2 controllers. I guess they just wanted to keep the front ports on the 360 clear. But alot of good that did, becuase they didnt send us a USB cord to plug the hub into the 360. But back to Rock Band talk, I have been reading other peoples opinions on the Demos for the last couple of days, and was shocked that people were not satisfied with their experiences. Then today as I was leaving work I stopped by to play a couple of songs, and much to my surprise, I couldnt play a single song with the Strat. I guess this is the down strumming people are talking about. If i played a single note, I could strum down fine, but when it came to a note that I had to hold, I would hold, and strum down, and the note wouldnt hold, even though i was still holding the blue key. Its like I strum, hold, and it strums again, and ends the note. I dunno it was weird. Overall, I love the strat. I would perfer it over any GH controller, but after reading about the problems alot of stores are having, accompanied with my own experience tonight, im kinda worried about the durability of the controller.

Edit: If I did a single strum up on the strat, the note would hold. Single strum down, the note wouldnt. If i strummed down and held it, the note would hold, until i let the strum bar go.
