In next weeks ad they'll just post it again with something like "You save 30.00 purchasing this product" and list a 169.00 price.
If little kids see this, they are going to want it. If I were 8, I'd want this right now.

Ack, that ad is horrible... It reminds me of those awful 50's ads...
Heck, they could have at least had older people on the instruments, and with more style. Sheesh :P
Besides why do they have it advertised for $199? Shouldn't it be $169?

Holy SH!T !!!!! I know this is my first post but I couldn't pass this up. That "almost" succeeds in making Rock Band not look completely f*cking awesome! Why did they put in the kids? At least it's the ad for the 360 version and not ps3 :)!!!!;) What's really funny is that the guitar isn't wired and no one is even looking at the game on the screen. pure hilarity!

They should have had an old man on the drums, a young girl singing and a twenty-somthing on guitar.
Seems that would make a good point.

Having kids on that thing makes me look at it as being less serious then it really is. You see all the GH3 adds with teenagers or older on it, it just appeals to people more.

HEY! I take as prejudice! Douche. Okay you're not a douche I guess. As a...I dunno...a black person (who coincedentally plays everything bass) I feel the need to ***** about prejudice, sterotypes, blah, blah, blah.
But it's a Target ad. What do you expect?

THIS is why gaming culture is so far behind. Big fat ugly dudes like me are going to be BUYING and playing this game - not awful little kids like the ones shown in the ad. I HATE TARGET COMMERCIALS!!!! They're worse than Wal-Mart commercial-wise! DAMNIT! That pic totally ruined my whole day! Damn kids... When I was at Best Buy yesterday, I took a bathroom break after playing the RB demo. I come out of the john to the sound of loud clacking echoing in the distance. Sure enough, I looked down the isle to see some snot-nosed punk violently banging the crap out of the drums and missing each one. Kids (1-13) should not be allowed to have this game purchased for them or play this game.

Wow, the singer reminds me of someone... I hope this means we'll get Bloc Party as DLC.
Joke aside. It's a stupid and bad advertisment, probably not made by EA, but by whoever is selling this.

Rock Band has been seriously market as a game set for teenagers and adults. So I figure Target wants parents to see Rock Band as something they can buy littly Johnny for Christmas.

Well I have been called "Actually white not black," on many occasions because I love rock and let everyone know it in how I act, dress, and carry myself. Being in a couple bands probably helps too. :p
At the end of the day I just don't care. I know I should but I really don't.

If you look at where the cable connects to the guitar, you see that it is wired, they just have the cord tucked behind the guitar. Veeeerry sneaky.

just to comment on the bassist comment...ever see the south park episode where Cartman forms a band and forces Token (the "token" black person) to play bass?
Token says he's never played and Cartman says all black people can play bass. Token picks up a bass for the first time and lays down some awesome riffs....that was funny..
Sorry for the off-topicness...but here's the clip. It happens around 1:30.

After seeing this ad, it's not wonder that gamers don't get taken seriously.
Look at the gooyf ass little kid on the drums. I can just hear the messy "clopclopclop" of the pads and random speed pressing of the bass pedal as he totally misunderstands the purpose of such a game.
I can't believe how fcking horrible this ad is. Burn it.

This is embarrasing to say the least. You spend ages trying to convince non gamers over 30 that gaming is as legitimate a past time as reading a book, playing cards, watching TV or going to the pub and then some idiot creates an ad like that.
If the ad was based on my gaming experiences, there would be 4 30+ guys drinking beer and focusing heavily on the screen to avoid double vision.
...and that kids feet really are far too big. Does he have water retention?

$200 says it's Celebrity Skin.
Well, considering the female bassist, the screamer, and the big feet..... $300 says it's the Smashing Pumpkins.

I think the only reason for the kids was because it's a "Toy" only ad. (Sorry if this was posted only read the first page :D )

That ad is an abomination...set this community back to the GH era (j/k). My wife took one look at that ad, and let's just say, I'm glad I pre-ordered.
Kudos to the rated T for Teens comment-- Target obviously is pulling the "if the kids see it or the parents think it's the latest toy, it's a guaranteed sale" routine.

I haven't reveiwed the list in a couple days, but aren't there some not so kid friendly songs? Weird choice for the add. Is the game rated T for teen or E for everybody?

True. For the sake of completeness, the ad should have had a word balloon coming from the singer, with him belting out:
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good indians are tame
Selling them whisky and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
Hope you're on Santa's good list this year, kids!

Or any of the following:
Oh, cinderella
They arent sluts like you
First I drink, then I smoke
Start up the car, and I try to make the midnight show
(hey man) I gotta straighten my face
This mellow thighed chick just put my spine out of place
...
Ohhh, wham bam thank you maam!

I guess I tend to look at things from a business perspective, but am I missing something here? what makes the ad so terrible? Ads are supposed to help you sell a product. If kids see this they'll beg parents for it for xmas, and parents may look into it, and reminisce in good times looking at the track list and think, "hey this is actually pretty neat, i can have a good time with this too." or maybe this is a quiet alternative to get their young kids into music without the loud head banging. i think rock band has already captured the teen and young adult demo. the more demos they appeal to, the more sales right?
i could care less if kids are playing this. it doesnt affect my enjoyment of the game. why would i care if kids are in the ad? i know the game rocks regardless. even if you know nothing about the game, you might know a little about the rhythm game genre through guitar hero, and realize that also has a wide fan base. it doesn't mean rock band is solely for little kids based on that picture.

It was probably a last minute design, created by an intern or newb-designer at the whim of the secretary-made art director trying to make something their kid would like. It all reminds me of a bad partridge family poster.
But really, in ads like these, there is no design to it. Its all last minute production trash.

11-05-2007, 03:43 PM
what makes the ad so terrible?
Kids have stupid, annoying faces - especially child models who are supposed to being having a crazy-fun-kidtastic time. It's efficacy as an ad is outweighed by it's sheer annoyance factor.
