Ok I guess this would be classed as a technical issue albeit a minor one but I got Rock Band for my Birthday last week and created a Rocker but kept getting a message saying that teh name I had chosen was not considered Classy and as such would not be displayed on XBox live.

The name I picked is my nickname and is what I have been known as in several real bands I have played with over teh years. It is not offensive or obscene and is not a ripoff of some one elses name so I cant work out why it wont let me use it.

All I wanted was to be able to create a Virtual version of myself and it doesnt like it.

The Name in question is Spiceboy (a play on my last name) any ideas on why it wont let me use it?

Unfortunately we don't really have any control over the name filters for the leaderboards, so there's not much we can do from our end to change things. I can tell you that the filter for "classy" names sometimes reads parts of words instead of the full name, so you may want to take another look at your chosen name and see if anything may stick out as offensive or derogatory.

For example, there was a band named Throwing Grapes that couldn't register because Grapes contains the word rape. It's not a perfect system, but I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry. Worst case scenario: you are always free to pick another name. I hope that info helps.

OK So potentially the first 4 letters of my chosen name could be picked up as offensive (thats really the only thing I can see that it might conceiveably pick up on) so I may be able to work around it.

For now I am using another old nickname /stage name which it would allow

It just suprised me that it wouldnt let me have Spiceboy, I know its not the greatest name in the world and was originally intended as a joke by a mate of mine but it stuck and I got used to it. I guess its the same as some forum filters censoring that well known mushroom teh Shiitake when people mis-spell it

Thanks for the quick reply

Yeah, I guess it would have to be the first four letters of that name. Xbox Live is a bit overzealous with the filters.

Does it really use the terms "classy" and "unclassy"? How Ron Burgundy of them.

I just love this message. Me and my friend still wonder why they consider Jesus "unclassy". But hey, sometimes it's an annoyance and sometimes it can make great jokes.

It says something along teh lines of

The name XXXXXX is not what you would consider "classy" and will not be displayed on XBox Live Leaderboards until you change it.
