Grown men playing with dolls

So, I got this drummer chick avatar in rock band and I was in the rock shop buying some new threads for her and my daughter comes in and asks if she can play the barbie game, and I say what barbie game, and she points to the screen and says that one..

Up until that point, I hadn't even realized that dressing up my characters and changing their hair color, buying jewlery and putting makup on them was basically playing with dolls. I'm ashamed and somewhat disturbed by this.

It still won't stop me from doing it, but now I have to do it at night while everyone is asleep...

Though the femeninity vanishes from that when people stare at me for complaining that kids are immortal in Sims 2. "Oh come on, grandpa and the parents burned to death but the kids just get taken away, what the hell? ...Why is everyone just staring at me?"

Funny situation: I showed a friend of mine one of my characters, She said she loved the character and it is like playing "dress up" with dolls. True story.

Heh, I'm a sucker for playing virtual dolls. Always have. Every single MMORPG I've played, I've used more than half of my inventory space for clothes. And in Rock Band, well, my rockers basically totally change looks every few songs, whenever I need to rest my wrists :).

Which is OK. I'm in touch with my feminine side and all that. It just leads to conflict with my GF when she wants to use MY Rock Shop time to... play dolls *rolleyes* :p.

I had a similar experience, and I let my neighbor's daughter go crazy in the rock shop. My character had well over 700k in cash, so I told her to go nuts and dress her up however she wanted. Hey, it's a rhythm game and a "Barbie" game.

anywhoo yeah it's funny, and weirdly enough usually customizing my character in a game is my favorite part... I love customization, the more options the better.

The whole SIMS thing made me remember one of my SIMS experments. I made a small room, no doors, just a TV, couch, some counters, fridge and microwave, then I crammed 6 SIMS in there and let the thing go. It was a riot, the only place to sleep was the couch, SIMS were fighting over the couch, passing out on the floor sleeping in their own piss and then the microwave cought on fire and killed one of them. A few of the SIMS would cry around the dead SIMS ashes that were surrounded in garbage and urine from the other sims.

My girlfriend tells me how she wants to make a character, but she doesn't want to play the game.

Hopefully I'll be able to convince her to play by telling her that the only one allowed to use the characters is the one who made them. ;)

I'd also like to echo the fact that the customization features in the game are awesome, and a lot of fun.

Wait until Spore comes out. Then you can go around abducting alien species and giving them the probe... burning nascent civilizations into cinders... dropping creatures onto lifeless moons and watching them go pop.

Last time I checked, Spore still had a PLANET DESTROYING RAY. I'm not normally into the sims or simcity games, but spore lets you customize your creature as far as you can imagine and then blow it up with a PLANET DESTROYING RAY, so I am not physically capable of not buying this game.


September is going to be an expensive month for me.

It is just like dressing up a dolly, and it's why I never got into dressing up my toons in RB or in MMOs. Not saying there's anything wrong with it, just not my thing.

However, the *most* interest my wife pays to the game is when I turn her loose on changing how the toons look.

Take of that what you will. Societal enforced gender bias at work. :D
