View Full Version : Save-able Custom Categories/Lists

I have a double-buttload of DLC that puts me at 174 total songs right now. And that's not even all the DLC. When RB2 comes out it sounds like I'll be instantly up 258. Not a bad problem to have at all, but.....
Having persistent custom categories/lists would be a great way to allow each user to individually customize the game. Allow as many lists as there is storage available on the hard drive. Allow any name the user wants, and allow how ever many song titles in each list. Okay, limit it to 128 or 256 songs per list if necessary.
What I'm talking about is providing the ability for each user to create a named list, such as "Party Songs", that is saved so that when people come over to rock out and they aren't RB veterans you can go to the Party Songs list and only the songs you put in there show as selections. Margaritaville, Roam, Bang A Gong, etc. Then you aren't scrolling through 250+ songs looking for one that everybody knows/likes.
If you could have as many lists as you want, then I would make ones like "My Fave Hard Drums" and such. When I'm playing through the DLC list, sometimes I hit a song that just works for me. It would be nice to be able to tag it by adding it to a list like that. I keep meaning to write them down on a piece of paper, but so far I don't do that. Some songs are fun for me on Medium while I struggle on Hard, or a blast on hard but I can't even pass them on Expert yet. It'd be cool to have a list of them for when I just feel like jamming.
With this capability, we could make whatever categories we wanted to organize the songs. I would like to see the game songs involved, too, not just the DLC. And I'd also like to see these lists be available in all game play modes: quickplay, solo tour, multi-tour, etc.
I think this would give a lot of bang for the development buck, as it isn't a complex thing to develop yet it gives the user a great opportunity to organize the songs to their own liking.

No save-able set lists in Rock Band 2.
Maybe they'll patch it.
Didn't read your post because I'm cooking at the same time as doing this so hope this helps answer your post.

I think the idea would be a great addition to the game, you can build up playlists in Rock Band 2, but I'm pretty sure this feature won't be availible from the beginning, but we can hope for a patch I guess....

I guess we certainly can hope that this will be released in a patch. It would be very nice to be able to save your playlists like you would save playlists for your mp3 player or iPod. This would greatly simplify the browsing through songs and finding sets to play.

You don't have to be a ***** about it.
But, what can you expect from someone with a name like LordFlatus.

I would agree with you on everything except the Solo/BWT Modes...That would just let you play everything you wanted to play in those modes...which isn't the point of it.
I do agree that a custom setlist that would let you name it would be a great feature. Rock Band 2 comes out sometime in September, so hopefully they have it or they will add it.

you didn't ask any questions, but you spent three paragraphs asking for or discussing a feature that regulars already know WILL NOT be available at release. He didn't need to read all of your post to get the point of what you were asking for, relax.

No, he had something reasonable to say. Your post was about savable setlists, and his post confirmed that they are not an option in the release of Rock Band 2. To me, that sounds like a relevant fact.
It is a highly requested feature.

You all know damn well that there won't be any usability patches for RB2. Look at all the things that could have been patched in RB1! I, and others, have been asking for this for months and been ignored.

Just to be clear, since a lot of people seem to be assuming that I am asking for setlists...
I am actually asking for custom categories to group the songs into. It's impossible to read everything on this forum, so maybe it's all been discussed before, but to me a "playlist" or "setlist" sounds like you pick it and then play all the songs in it.
I am requesting custom categories to view the songs.
In Band Quick-Play, you could go to "Well Known Party Songs" to look at a limited user created list of songs, instead of "70s Songs" or having to scroll forever to get to the M songs or bands.
In BWT on the "Make your own setlist" gig, you could bring up the list "Songs I Can Finish on Expert Drums" to try and up your fan total.
In Solo Tour, instead of having to go through every single song in that dang un-sortable list, you could pick a song out of "Hard Guitar Warm Up", then move to "Hard Guitar Troublesome", all the while making more money for your character and upping your scores.
See where I'm going with this? Maybe custom categories are what you guys are calling "setlists", but I don't think it's the same.

A guy named "flawless" is making fun of another user name?
Isn't your quiche burning? You better go now.

I really think people are underestimating the quickplay sorting though... I mean, how hard can it be to pick 20, completely unrelated songs?
Switch to "Sort alphabetically by Song/Artist", whichever you prefer...
Pick the letter of song one (You'd be scrolling through A, B, C, D ..., not every song) and select it.
Pick the letter of song two, select the song.
It won't even take that long when you're scrolling through the songs of each letter. Unless you plan on doing a 200 song setlist, but it'll still take longer to play it than to make it.
Usually, my theory is that it has to take more time to play it than to set it up. That's why I'll never just play one song in Rock Band, I have to balance it out.
Same with food. But, I guess some people would rather have insta-meals than home made ones with slight differences. Or something.
Not that it wouldn't be a good feature to have; it would, but the setlist feature is great enough already, especially with the methods of sorting we have.
