for any of you who have played GH3, as you know, the Paranoid cover is not very good, and the Pride and Joy cover is AWEFULL!!!, but after listening to the cover of paranoid, and run to the hills, and tom sawyer from rock band, they actually sound really really good. So I just wanted to applaud Harmonix for getting great covers, which is teh next best thing to getting the master track, so good job.

Yeah, the Paranoid here is MUCH better than the GH3 one.

And Run to the Hills certainly isn't perfect, but it won't keep me from playing the song 10 times a day

Even better than doing good covers is more master tracks! Definitely a good move by Harmonix to bring us the real deal as opposed to using a studio band that will botch the vocals.

I think the GH3 covers are OK. I don't really know what Pride and Joy is supposed to sound like (I know, shame on me), but the cover in the game is perfectly enjoyable to me. Paranoid is alright, Sabbath did it better of course but the one in GH3 suffices.

Anarchy in the UK, however, is truly awful and that's the real band doing that.

Agreed. Even when they don't sound all that close to the originals, the HMX covers at least sound really good. The point of these games is that you're in a band playing covers of existing songs, so I don't have a problem with covers. Tom Sawyer's a good example. No, that's obviously not Geddy Lee, but it still sounds good and still essence of the original is still there in the cover, just sung and played by someone else.

I thought Tom Sawyer was ok, but I didn't like the RB Paranoid either - I'd still take it over the crappy GHIII version, but there are so many great Ozzy impressionists that could've nailed it - I saw 2 great Sabbath cover bands around Halloween and they both did better Paranoid's than either game's cover version, at least vocally.

Harmonix typically does an awesome job with cover songs, and it looks RB is no exception. The new videos on the site sound great.

I gotta agree with you on paranoid. It's really not a good cover, in either game, RB's closer instrumentally, but far off vocally, GHIII's is off both ways, but sounds a little cooler, but it's still incredibly fun to play in RB.

Tom Sawyer, however is incredible!!!

I don't care about iron maiden so I don't care, but the singer dude sounds pretty on.

Then what the hell happened on the Rock the 80s? Those were by far the worst covers ever.

Really? Run to the Hills sounds terrible to me. Paranoid is definitely better on Rock Band than GH3, but the note chart is superior in GH3, which ultimately matters more. I do love the cover of Tom Sawyer, but I still wish they didn't have to do a cover on that particular song. I respect their covers now, but what they put out in GH2 and GH were awful for the most part. And when I say that, I mainly mean the singing. The songs themselves sounded good, but were ruined by the singer (the cover of RaTM in GH2 is one of the worst ever).

That was Harmonix trying to make a buck. Same for their shameless decision to put one good song in a pack with 2 not-so-good tracks and making you buy all 3 just to get the one good song for downloadable content on GH2.

Because we all know they set the pricing for these, right?

On topic, I thought the Run To The Hills cover was pretty good.

Why do you post on here if you, apparently, hate everything that Harmonix has done? We've heard it a hundred times this week and we get it - you can move on now.

Pretty sure that was Activision's decision, not Harmonix. Harmonix was contracted by Activision to create the DLC for GH2, they had nothing to do with pricing or distribution. You know, Activision, same people heading GH3. You enjoy that.

But thanks for trying to spread your hate.

The idea behind Guitar Hero (not sure if it's the same for RB) was that you were a cover artist, not the original artist. Sure I'd like the remake to sound very much like the original artist but I'm not under the false impression that these songs are supposed to be the original artist brought back from the dead/rehab in order to sell out a high school gymnasium.

Actually, no, Harmonix earns money from all the DLC and from the horrendous Rock the 80s crap. So they're responsible. If they hated the idea so much, they should have fought it. They didn't. As for enjoying GH3, I will, and I am. It's a great continuation of a great series. But then again I'm not a fanboy loser like many people here who think it's only OK to like one series. People like you.

Do you realize how little sense that makes? Do you not understand the relationship between a publisher and a developer and how it works? Please go read up on it because you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

A good start would be the stickied topic entitled "What Should Download Songs Cost?"

Lots of you have been contacting us regarding the uproar today over Activision's pricing of the download songs for GH2 for Xbox 360. First, I feel we should point out that Harmonix does not set those prices, nor did we put the song packs together. We just encoded the songs.

I have to agree, the few covers that are in Rock Band are very good, I was a little worried about Iron Maiden, but Run To The Hills sounds awesome, as good as it possibly could. Tom Sawyer as well.

I'm really happy with how all the songs turned out, I'm super excited for these next two weeks to pass by quickly!
