View Full Version : The point of even trying to G* in BWT? Fix in RB2?

Hey all, feel free to correct me if im wrong, but there is no point in trying to gold star songs in BWT, i don't see any achievements for it, and i'm not sure but i don't think that you even get extra money or fans.

The reason why I'm making this post is cuz im currently beating the endless setlist (its paused atm) with my buddy in BWT and so far we've completed 35 songs with 33 of them gold starred (we alternate expert guitar and drums) and it just hit me...what's even the point ? (other than bragging rights :P )

So I was thinking that maybe in RB2 they could have something that would make you actually want to gold star songs on BWT, so that you're motivated to keep trying after you get 5*... what do you guys think?

Why? Why does there need to be an extra incentive to want to Gold Star a song? Do you feel that trying to do the best you can possibly do on a song is not enough motivation?

Well it's like beginners on GH. Why play on expert, it's really not that much fun because it's waaaay too hard and there isn't much of a reward. Until you really get excellent at the game it's just not rewarding. Once you get to a point, though, there is a certain exhilaration that comes from achieving that, but not if you're dogging through the whole time and end up failing 20+ times just to do it (BTW, there is an achievement on the 360 version of GHIII that comes from failing one song 20 times [or maybe it was 10...] Trust me, I found that one out with Raining Blood on expert...)

I only had to play Raining Blood 7 or 8 times... the second last I failed at 98%, the last time I played it I passed and haven't touched it since.

I got the achievement for TTFaF though...

Anyway, I think that a Gold tarred song should count as 6 stars, for the purpose of those 'finish with an average of 5 stars' setlists... if you get 4 on one song, you're boned.

I hope the OP doesn't have a lot of fans already. When we completed the ESL we were hoping for a couple of million fans. We earned 0. But, at least we have the shiny platinum icons now. :D

The only incentive for gold starring is for high scores. But, during BWT, if you're not in a 4 person band, it makes even that point moot. For example, a band with 4 players and playing on Medium could easily outscore a 2 player band who plays on Expert and achieves gold stars.

It's too bad that they didn't design it so if you gold star a song that it counts as a 6th star or at least awards you a larger proportion of fans.

I still don't see your point. First of all, why is it that we play these music games? Is it about scores? achievements? or is it about playing the music? This is where you lose me.

The example about beginners on GH, the problem comes from this, the motivation is to eventually move your way up the difficulty ladder to be able to play the the way it was written and as best you can, which still applies when it comes to gold staring songs, trying to do the best you possibly can. The motivation is still the same.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to see Gold Stars in BWT count as a 6th Star, aswell as give you a little more fans and money on completion. But just because those don't exist now, I don't see why there is the questioning of "Why am I trying to Gold Star these songs?" because otherwise it sounds like you aren't playing this for the music and trying to play it as best you can.

People can have different reasons for playing music games. I mean, if Rock Band didn't want to attract achievement-oriented players, they could've not put in scores and star ratings at all (and wouldn't that be crazy?).

You do get extra money for gold-starring a song... it's equivalent to a "sixth star" in that regard.

The problem is gold starring is so far out of reach for casual players, much less a band, that creating an achievement for it is along the lines of the Inhuman achievement in GH3 in terms of evilness. I think the extra fans and cash should be enough for the hardcore players that are going to be getting loads of gold stars, let them compete in the leaderboards. I like the way the achievements worked in the first game, very do-able for people that take the time to practice but aren't super crazy hardcore.

I've never cared at all about any of that stuff. I usually glance at the stars, just to see, but I honestly couldn't tell you where any of my scores are anywhere in any song in RB. If me and my band pass we're good with it. I also glance at the percentage of the singer too. I haven't looked at the scores since GH2.

I guess I've never noticed a band gold star as being that hard... between one of my friends on drums, my brother singing, and me on bass, I think I've racked up about 30-40 gold stars in quickplay. The trick, of course, is having a really good drummer...

You get both extra money and extra fans for gold starring songs in BWT. The cap is $720 per song for a gold star and 1,280,xxx fans. For a five-star I believe it's $600 and 1,025,xxx. You'd think there'd be a FAQ with all this somewhere, but I've never seen one. I used to know the exact numbers when I played a lot of solo BWT.

yeah, I guess that's the flaw I'm seeing with it, because me and my buddy are pretty good at both instruments, and we're pretty competitive when it comes to leaderboards, but the problem is we don't want to have to go recruit a singer and bassist, especially when they could potentially bring our band down. And it's much easier just playing with my buddy instead of having to rely on people over the internet, since he's my neighboor i can just call him up whenever and then we play.

So I guess I'm saying maybe it would be nice to see more variety in leaderboards like a section for different combos of instruments possibly?

Yeah same here. I mean I like when I am playing in the band and get 5 stars simply because it means we have done well together but as long as it is an easy pass I am happy since I am ultimately not a score/star whore.
