...might want to consider this.
Anyone who frequents Digg may have seen this already, but for those who don't, and may be on the fence about getting a PS3, this might be the time:
Dell's package/bundle:
~PS3 (40GB model)
~Spiderman 3 Blu-Ray (comes with the PS3 anyway)
~Ratchet & Clank
~6 ft. HDMI cable
Price: $399.99
So basically, they give you a game (one that just came out, no less), and the HDMI cable, for free.

Wow, backwards compatibility or not, thats amazing!

They're going to completely phase out backwards compatibility and just make it a patch in the future anyway, so it doesn't matter anymore. The 40 gig one will have everything the others do soon enough

No confirmation of that yet, but that's what I think too. Even if not, the ps2 library is winding down and most people that like ps2 games already have a ps2, keeping both is certainly a better idea than spending 600 on a system so you can unhook your ps2.

I realized after looking at it again, that its for Canada. I'm not sure if they offer a similar deal on their US site, or if you can order from the Canadian site and have it shipped to the US.
Then again, I know there are quite a few people from Canada on these forums.

NICE!! I was gonna get the 60gig, but this is a good deal!
Are the only differences the b/c and 2 usb slots?

As far as I know, those are the only real differences. The new 40gb ones have the 65nm chip in them, I think, which is a little different, but I don't know if that changes anything. Also, the vents are a little different, as the 40gb one runs on less power, and doesn't get as warm (though the 60gb one doesn't get that warm either).
There are rumors that Sony will do something about the b/c down the road, but its still just a rumor. I'm sure if enough people buy the 40gb, and make them happy, and enough people then complain about the b/c, they may do something down the road. Since it's basically done on software, on the 80gb model, I can't see why they won't just release a download for the 40gb in the future.

I checked the dell site, you also get five free blu-ray movies! I thought that was originally for the US. Cool! Even the 80gig +2games +HDMI cable +5 free Blu ray is only $499 CAD!

That is ridiculous. I wish Sony would do what Apple did, and try to appease me, for offering bundles/price cuts after I went out and paid $599 for mine. Oh well.

Man that is some deal!!! great news for those who waited to get a PS3. I have Racthet & Clank, it's a great game, it looks fantastic plus it's a lot of fun to play + Spiderman 3 on and 5 other BR movies for 399.00? how can you say no??? Oh!!, not to mention the HDMI cable, that's 30 bucks right there. Almost sounds to good. :)

Plus reliability. You won't have to worry about the system crapping out on you like 360. I love my 360 to death but I hate worrying about it dying.

Although it's dell offering this, not Sony. I haven't seen this deal anywhere but with Dell. I'm sure they're just throwing in the extras as part of a promotion. Except the 5 free DVD's, that's all Sony..
I can't wait! I think I'm finally gonna get one now. Just need to show my wife what a good value it is!
...hope she lets me get it:o
