So when playing bass + vox are you playing "Sting" mode or are you playing "Geddy Lee" mode?
Remember, this isn't just a poll. It's a fight to the death.

Mark Hoppus!
(I voted Geddy Lee, I can't think of anyone better than he or sting off the top of my head.)

Geddy gets the hippy bonus that lands him ahead.

Paul McCartney was only the third-best Beatle, but he's still way cooler than Sting. I'm disappointed in you, OP.
Also, Geddy Lee mode.

If we had "Box of Rain," I'd say Phil Lesh. But since our Grateful Dead songs are all sung by the two usual singers in the group, I'll say Geddy Lee.

Glad to see that Geddy takes a clear lead. Which is true. About most bassists compared to him. AHEM.
EDIT: ^^ No, it's a direct comparison. One of the only times Geddy plays Rhythm guitar is in Xanadu, but he's primarily a bassist.

I love both bands, but sting can easily be annoying but I would've voted Geddy anyways.

I usually do guitar/vocals...not bass/vocals... so I have no comment...other than you should play guitar/vocals...Its much more fun. :)

Both The Police and Rush are good bands, but I prefer the work of Geddy Lee.

Yeah, kind of like comparing Kurt Cobain to Van Halen in a guitar skills battle. Obviously, the good one.

Dude... listen to Spirit of the Radio, Driven, Far Cry... Geddy Lee can sing low

Geddy Lee for sure. I really hate Sting's fake reggae accent when he sings...

It looks like the Rush fans outnumber The Police fans as I suspected. (Or of the people who like both, they like Rush more)
So now when Singing and playing Bass, you are officially in "Geddy Lee" mode. Unless of course you are playing a Police song in which case you are always in "Sting". And in a few Pixies songs, you are in "Kim Deal" mode.
Also, should we ever get any Beatles songs. You will be in "Paul McCartney" mode while playing them.
I'm glad this has all been sorted out.
I usually do guitar/vocals...not bass/vocals... so I have no comment...other than you should play guitar/vocals...Its much more fun. :)
Bass and vocals are pretty fun too. The generally simpler bass lines let me pay more attention to the vocals. Also I've played all the guitar charts to death, but I haven't seen that many of the bass charts.

You make a valid point. Maybe I'll have to try it out. (I've never even played the bass on RB )

For me, I say Sting cause I like The Police. Don't get me wrong, I love Rush. I would just rather play lead on their tracks. I will say that I'm guilty of pretending to be Geddy while playing lead. Am I going to hell for this?
For the wife, I always remind her that she's Gene Simmons cause she like the Family Jewels show.

You forgot one: when playing Kool Thing you are in "Kim Gordan" mode.

Maybe one day we'll get King's X and I can be in Doug Pinnick mode? Wishful thinking, I'm sure.
I've gone "Geddy" a lot lately. It's pretty fun.

That is really disappointing, not even so much as a mention of Phil Lynott who beats both of them hands down in my opinion and is way cooler.
Of the two options given though I guess Geddy is the lesser of two Weevils

Between the two, I think Geddy has a lot more skill.
But Les Claypool is great, too, and that video of that guy Nathan Hughes on the first page of this thread was awesome.

Sting has some good basslines, but so does Geddy, and isn't nearly as talented as his Canadian counterpart.
Geddy wins in a first round knockout.

Sting's a good bassist but a terrible singer. Good actor, though. I liked him in Dune.

I guess this is just one more useless opinion that nobody cares about.
This topic seems to be getting attention and I personally think it's an interesting question. If you don't want to be a part of it, don't post anything at all.

Les Claypool deserves honorable mention. I like him better than Sting, but he's still not quite up to Geddy Lee territory yet.
Yet.
It's like Geddy is the king of bass/vocals and Les is the prince. If Geddy should retire, Les Claypool shall take the throne.

I'm afraid you have your opinion backwards here. Great singer, but one of the worst actors I've ever seen.
