View Full Version : Can we view our shows?

Sorry if this is posted somewhere, but after searching I didn't find any answers to this. Is it a feature to be able to watch the shows after performing them? They put a lot of work into letting you customize yourself and having cool views and animations during the shows, but you don't get to watch it really unless you memorized the tracks and even then they're in the way, so is there a replay function that lets you just watch your guys rock out?

I was wondering this as well when watching the new videos. You can obviously hear the "dings" of the band earning stars, so it seems like it's footage of a gig that was or is being played. Do we have a playback option of some sort? Saved films? Pay for someone to record the show?

I'm glad others had the same question. What's cool about HMX's games is that you can watch the animations and get either a really close idea of how to play it on guitar or the exact thing. You can even see them bending the notes like on the Paranoid lead solo. It really goes to show you the difference it makes when you have musicians that love music make a title about music as opposed to game developers trying to cash in on a genre HMX boosted into the mainstream.

I haven't heard anything about this, but if there is such an option, this game just became even more awesome. Halo 3 has such a feature, and it didn't require obscene amounts of memory, so I would think it would be possible for RB.

Of course, most people will be having too much fun playing to watch a video of an hour long gig.

The idea is cool, but I don't know how much it'd get used. I mean, it's not like you can really control what the characters are doing, so unless you get like 100% and your singer is really good (assuming it doesn't just play the original song) wouldn't all the videos be the same?

The thing that's interesting about watching GH videos is watching the notecharts to see where people mess up, or as proof of a FC.

I think it would be a neat feature since you can actually see your own character and watched what you did wrong and maybe improve your skills by watching your errors.

I wouldnt care to watch the whole set unless there's some really cool transition. I'd just like to see my guys and gals rock out at their solos and whatnot. Especially since HMX did such a great job at animating the different styles and having them do signature things. Like the metal singer in Paranoid if you watch the new vid of it.

Wait. The characters in the game are actually playing the song correctly in the animations?

I haven't played GH I or II but I did notice in GH III that they were just randomly moving their fingers and it didn't look too great. (At least on the demo)

I'm talking about a replay, after the fact of playing the song. And the venues are different and I'd assume they don't do the same animations, over and over and over cause HMX knows that'd get boring. Messups or not, it'd be cool to actually get to pay attention to your char cause obviously when you're playing it you have more important things to worry about than the cool guitar cam they used on your char or the slide you did, or the flips or dance you were doing, you kinda have to watch the track unless like I said you memorize it, and even then the tracks are in the way. So I think it'd be a cool feature to see your char doing what he does at a big venue with all the fan shots and whatnot with all the cool filters you ignored cause you were busy playing the song.

Definitely not random, watch the new vids on rockband.com, in paranoid after the singer sings the lyrics "I must be blind." the lead guitarist breaks into a solo and the cam focuses on his fingers, when you hear the note distort, you see his fingers bend the note, in case you don't know what that is, you keep the string pressed down and either move the string towards the higher strings or the lower ones, and you get the "clean" note which then bends into a distortion of it. In the vid, I wish I could post a time but no stamps on those vids, you can see him do it at the point during the solo where there's a closeup on his hands, you see that he bends the string away from himself and you can even see all the strings get crowded together. If it helps, this happens slightly before the negative filter starts to clear as they're showing the closeup of the fretboard. Also, I haven't ever tried playing a song by just sitting there and copying their hands but if they're not accurate, they're reasonable, when the notes get higher their hands move to a fret closer to the base or a string lower than the top 3 and as I said they bend the notes when it's appropriate, their fingers are pressing down on multiple strings and in multiple frets when they play chords as well. It'd be great if someone from HMX would let us know if, when animating, they actually try to have them on the right frets, but even if they're not making them as accurate as possible, the point is that they at least follow the basic laws and that makes it look cool. It's very possible that they do make them play perfectly as HMX is a develpor composed of a lot of musicians and they'd have access to the sheet music and guitar tabs. Not hard to put fingers on the right strings and frets once you have the original guitar tabs in front of you.

I hope so i love to record my songs to my HDD

Messed about on my guitar a bit, and while I'm too lazy to sit and feed through all the vids to copy to the finger motions, so far they're pretty accurate. Just made the game even cooler in my head.

That said, I think a lot of us would like to put our big venues and major milestones to HDD. First time you played Europe, first time you played a stadium, first time you played perfect, would be cool milestones for the entire band.

I've been curious about this too. Are we dealing with a situation where a pre-scripted video, as seen in the video section of this site, is running in the background, and it's the same regardless of how well you're playing; or are we seeing real-time models mimicking how well we're playing the note charts? It seems like a tall order for the program to be able to update missed notes on the fly w/o some sort of delay, but if that's the case, I can't imagine why we wouldn't be able to watch a replay of the performance (memory issues aside). If it's just a pre-scripted routine, then those must be the background "videos" for the songs.

I'm really hoping there's a replay feature in this, even if it's only for momentous occasions. Man those videos have got me wondering and hoping!

In the videos posted on the main page - Paranoid in particular - the drummer keeps playing when the person playing the drums misses parts, so I think it's prescripted at least to some extent.

This would be difficult to implement on account of the vocals. Everything else--buttons pressed, extent of whammy usage, etc. can be stored very easily while the game is played just as with other titles like Halo 3, but trying to record the vocals with any sort of quality would not only take a lot of space but possibly slow down the game's processing in the bargain. I would love to see it myself, but I'm not sure it's practical. I haven't watched many of the videos, but I don't recall hearing a player singing during them.

Actually, I think he keeps playing during the fills (which aren't played, because this is autoplay, but still occur because Overdrive is being earned), but I could be wrong.

There are replays in racing games and you probably wouldn't use that to often.Just be nice to have the option, and it wouldn't be a hard thing to put in a game like this.
