Here's the deal. I'm a big fan of Frets on Fire (GH for the PC, it's free, look into it) and just ordered Rock Band for 360... I know the 360 GH controllers work for FoF as they just show up as HID compliant USB game pads (which rules, thank you hardware standards) but does anyone have any idea of the Rock Band guitar will work the same way? It would be most rocking indeed if I could get some extra fun out of my rock band gear for the low low price of zilch...

No reason why they wouldn't. They should still show up as a standard game pad, allowing you to map it the same way into FoF.

The controllers are "standard" xbox 360 controllers in all relevant respects. You should be all set.

that's what I was thinking, seeing as how the PS2 controlers work through a simple USB adapter, and the 360 controlers work out of the box (this is for GH 2 of course) I assume harmonix is going to keep with the tradition of sticking to the standards and making everyone happy... crossing me fingers. If it works then 170 is a lot easier to swallow as you also get guitar hero with tons of free songs if there's a computer near by... yay power of the internet.
Maybe there is or will be a drum equivilent to FoF that will work the the drums from RB as well... /begin_salivating
Turns a big purchase into an crazy good deal for hardware...

For some reason frets on fire for me is bad. It never registers the HO/POs for me.

I've always found FOF harder to play. The conversion of existing GH files (for games I legally own, thanks) results in notecharts that, weirdly, are almost entirely HO/POs even when it makes no sense. Also, the scroll speed of the notes differs from the scroll speed of the background in a lot of cases, resulting in weird timing shifts.
But anyway, back on topic... it's a USB controller. It'll act like a USB controller. The lower frets may not work, but otherwise it'll be the same.
Which means Activision COULD have played nice and allowed RB to work with their game... they just didn't want to. All hail HMX's open platform approach.

I was wondering where the FoF people were on this forum. The HO/PO stuff is borderline ridiculous on FoF, especially on a lot of those custom charts out there. But as far as I can see, if you can get a GH controller to work, RB's should have no problems. Of course, once RB comes out, I suspect I'll probably skip FoF altogether. I just need the eye candy to make it worth my effort.

I'm just waiting for PoF (Pads on Fire) using the Rock Band drums :D
I'm sure someone will create it!
