Actor James Doohan ("Scotty" from the original Star Trek) requested in his will to have his ashes sent into space. A couple separate attempts have been made, and the most recent unfortunately ended in an epic failure. The full story (actually written by James's son Ehrich Blackhound) can be found at:

I hope they saved some of the ashes, and Enrich is able to find a way to fullfill his request eventually.

Very sad that he had to die... he should have gerry-rigged a transporter to keep his pattern in the buffer by setting it to self diagnostic mode like in the TNG episode "relics". Then he could have lived forever.

they were supposed to put a frakload of well-wishing letters from the fans on board with him too... I wrote one of 'em.
