Just wondering, as a soon to be xbox owner, will we get DLC off of the rock band site, or will it be off of XBL?

We will download it off of Xbox Live. Of course, it will cost points.

It will be on live
Everything you download (almost) is off of the marketplace

Anyone else agree Xbox Live Marketplace is the best thing since sliced bread?

On Topic: Marketplace although it has been said.

Yeah, but it's not better than sliced bread. Until you go into a deli and say "Can I get an Xbox Live Marketplace on rye, with extra mayo." Sliced bread still reigns supreme.

The Marketplace is very nice... however... the MS Point system is very ass-backwards. Excuse my language.

Sliced bread also costs considerably less than XBL Marketplace...

I strongly disagree................unless of course there is a certain album from a certain band on XBLM......

This seems like as a good a place as any to ask. I've had Live Gold for a year now - since I brought the XBox home - but I hardly ever play online stuff these days and was thinking of downgrading to Silver - you can still buy stuff like DLC songs with Silver, right??

I'm getting a PS3 in a few days. So anybody has any idea how DLC will work in the PSN?

I remember when my 30-day XBox Live Gold trial ran out (the one that came with the system), there was a period of about a week before I went out and got another Live Gold subscription card thing.

I clearly remember the XBox 360 manual saying that you could still download stuff and also write messages to your friends. But, I noticed that when I tried to send messages on Live with just the Silver membership, it didn't work. It said I needed a Gold membership for that.

I didn't try to download stuff at that time, so I can't say anything about that. My current subscription expires on Nov 17. I'll see if I can download anything after then, and I'll get back to you.

Until then, does anyone else have any info about this? It would be kinda dumb if you had to have Live Gold to pay for DLC. That'd be like paying a $50 annual membership [C] fee [O] just [S] to [T] buy [C] groceries [O]!

Yes. Silver memberships let you download DLC.

Sweet! Thanks guys - I am totally canceling that business and waiting until I have a game I want to play on it to resubscribe - except for a couple of evenings with Team Fortress, I don't think I've touched it in months - the racist bored children in all the games are such a drag, and if I can still get the DLC, then that's all I'll need.

I'm not so convinced that we'll be buying things only on XBox Live. It was described previously on the forums how a game company made downloads purchasable online using your browser, which would queue the downloads for next time that you logged into XBox Live.

This seems likely given the depth and breadth of content for Rock Band, with a little bit of emphasis given by the "Wish List" on the Rock Band Store. A "Wish List" wouldn't be all that useful of a feature if the store only contained a handful of products. My bet is that the downloadable content will be there as well.

I know I would hugely prefer to be able to browse DLC online and purchase in advance for my next sessions. (This would also make gifting songs to friends easier.)

You pay with dollars and cents rather than Microsoft points. You deposit money by taking it off a credit card. They don't have any pre-paid cards yet though.

Yeah, that's a good idea. Let us know when a game comes out that might be worth playing online. Not that I can think of anything. Not one...

Oh, I know, how about f*cking Rock Band?

Cancelling your Live Gold a few days before Rock Band is released is like selling your band's bus right after you get signed to a national tour. Weak!

I just have no interest at all in playing this game with strangers over the internet - I know everyone seems to be so upset about no online BWT, but I couldn't possibly care less. I'd never, ever, ever use it - it sounds so not-fun to me. Also, I can't imagine not having someone available to play this game with me locally almost all of the time. You know, roommates, siblings, girlfriends, friend-friends?

Give it a try.

1. Go to this URL: http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/Friends.aspx

2. There is a friend request waiting for you there from someone with a gamer tag of Electric Zen. Accept it.

3. When you're through jamming out with your local buddies, hit me up for a round of drum vs. drum tug of war. This is not a friendly match. The victor will bathe in the lamentations of his opponent's women.

4. All is forgiven. The two opponents have earned each other's respect, and agree to conquer the world with rock and roll. You grab your girl, I get my wife, and we try out a little four-player online. Gives you something to do until your buddies come over the next day.

My regular friends think my gaming is weird and that I should grow up (I'm 36 and have been gaming for 27 years now). So the chances of me grabbing a buddy are zilch. I remember the first time I went online was with Halo. I was stunned to be called a noob (had to look it up!), have my sexual preferences questioned, be sworn at, suffer stupid 'tea and crumpets' comments, be told repeatedly the USA saved us in WWII and that I have bad teeth. My first impressions of live were not good.

I think the live experience can be fantastic, provided you play with the right people. I now play with the same group of people all the time after I placed an ad in the UK XBL forum for friends of similar age in a similar predicament. Our group quickly swelled into a clan of 40 (by complete accident) and now we have a real blast. We're even meeting up next year for a weekend of beer drinking and gaming!

About 10 of that group are big GH fans and are looking forward to playing RB (even more than GHIII in fact). To say we're gutted not to be able to do BWT together is an understatement.

In short, try to find a clan of laid back gamers and it'll change your view of live. In all the years I've been gaming, the last two have been the best. Maybe when you hit my age and all your buddies are looking at you telling you to grow up, it'll be even more appealing!

My gamertag is dodgyknees. Feel free to send me a f/r. It's unlikely we'll ever play together because of the time difference, but you never know. The one thing you can be sure of is if you ever play with me head to head it'll be competitive, but fun (and I'm pretty useless at most games I play so you'll probably be able to get some kind of win streak achievement too!). If you ever joined one of our GOW rooms, you'd hear a group of people having a real blast together even though we're hundreds of miles apart from each other*.

*Please don't join our GOW games if you're too good. We're very old and slow. We get scared when young guns come into our room and hammer us!

Ha! Ok - I did it (and got yours, too, TogFather) - thanks! I'm Yer Bird on there. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes :)

DodgyKnees, I can cause some trouble with the HammerBurst, but that's about it for GoW
