View Full Version : Who thinks these songs suck?

Like for drums. I wanted to play the drums to rockin songs but some of the few good songs they have here are boring for drums, and the rest of the songs just suck. Playing the guitar is lame because it's like "you're really not playing the guitar dude".

Ok I was just listening to Nirvana In Bloom, that sounds like a cool song to play with the drums. A lot of these songs I just never heard of. I want G'nR, Motley Crue, Pearl Jam, etc. The popular bands, not the other crap. And while Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden is a good song to listen to it's not a rockin song. Most of these songs should be upbeat songs.

And you aren't really playing the drums either, dude. There are a few things missing. And thats the point, it's a game. It's supposed to simulate the experience of playing.
Since you don't like to play the guitar since it's not really a guitar which means you can't play the drums since you aren't really playing the drums, I guess that leaves singing. Thats about the only thing thats left.
And to reply to the title of your post, no the songs do not suck. If you think ALL the songs suck except Nirvana, someone needs to stop being so narrow minded with music.

Most of them are. You gave 1 example of 1 of the slowest songs, thats not MOST of the songs, its 1 of the forty-whatever songs.

Don't just keep playing and listening to the same music, that's stupid. The various Guitar Hero games and now Rock Band have introduced me to lots of good songs.
And the bands/songs in Rock Band are some of the most popular of all time. You've really never heard of The Who, Metallica, or David Bowie? How is that possible?

First of all the drumset does simulate a real drumset. Even one of the developers said if you can play this on the hard setting you can play real drums. Now I hope all these bands and songs I've never heard of are cool, that would be great, but what can I say if I've never heard of them? And many people haven't either. I'll probably have to download them and see, that's my only option. Some other songs that are too slow here are Creep Radiohead, why in the world did they put that in? Orange Crush by REM. Now I can't imagine that's gonna be a rockin song lol.

It doesn't simulate a full drumset. The pros have all sorts of **** in their kit. Also in some songs the pads double as different pieces.
Now if you're complaining that songs are too repetitive then I think you picked the wrong instrument.

I guess you could always just not buy it. That would save you a lot of complaining.
The fact that you've never heard of these bands just means you have a pretty narrow musical experience. Almost every one of these songs was a chart topper in its era, so I'd say you need to spend some time brushing up on good music. GnR, Motley Crue, etc are not the only good bands out there.
Also, just because a song is slow does not mean that it won't be fun to play. Creep is an incredible song. Should be a blast. If you think the drums are really going to be lame, go play Tom Sawyer, Run to the Hills, or Don't Fear the Reaper on Expert.

They tried to find songs that offer a nice band feeling. Songs where there aren't awesome guitar solos because the song is for the whole band. There are also some songs with nice basslines, nice guitarlines etc.
So and so.
I think they have choosen a great amount of different songs. I would have done it even better :D but it's still good.

I think you are sorely mistaken that "most people" haven't heard of these bands.
You could go listen to some of the songs and decide for yourself, there's a stickied thread with youtube links to every song. Rock doesn't have to be insane and blisteringly fast to be "rockin" ... Its about emotion and energy. Orange Crush is a great song.

That developer quote isn't saying "you're playing real drums on hard" it's really saying "you're exhibiting the four-limb independence and rhythmic patterns consistent with a basic level of proficiency on the drums." It's still not quite the experience of playing drums, but it does share similarities.
As to never hearing of most of the songs, that probably just speaks for your age--because most of the tracks on RB feature bands that are absolute classics. Without the efforts of most of the people in RB most of the music you like probably wouldn't exist.
And what does the speed of a song have anything to do with how fun it is to play? I think a common misconception with a lot of beginning percussionists that the goal is to build speed--but it's not. Laying back in the pocket and playing the perfect beat is what it's all about, even if the song is slow.
You'll probably "get it" more after you actually get a chance to play the songs, but I wouldn't write it off too much until then.

Thats not a bad thing with the game, in fact that should make it more fun.
Besides, its not the fault of the game that you havent heard of extremely popular and awesome bands like The Who, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Rush, David Bowie, Faith No More........
Just because you havent heard of the bands, doesnt make them "not popular", in fact, I feel this setlist is crammed full of popular songs.

Thanks I'll be looking up the songs on Youtube and decide. To Ardius, how dare you Faith No More's my favorite band. Unfortunately Epic is more for the singer, guitarist, bass and not that great for drums. Black Sabbath, how could I not know them, even though it's rusty rock (smirk). David Bowie might be fun you never know, although he's Pop so I don't know about him. The Who (who?), Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, and Rush are crap I don't want to hear. There's a rumor of the whole Nirvana album being available for download. That would get me to buy Rock Band :) Hope it's more than just a rumor.

ROFL!
1) You realize that about half of Epic is a single note on the bass...
2) David Bowie is Glam Rock, especially the album this song is off of.
3) If you don't like music, why are you playing a music game?

True, but Dave Grohl IS the crown prince of Rock and Roll. He has played in 5 different bands that are in RB and GH3 (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Tenacious D, QotSA, and some NIN). I wouldn't go so far to say that he's as good as Peart or Moon, but certainly more prolific in the modern era.

Well I listened to most of the songs on Youtube, thanks Ardius a big help. Now there are enough decent songs for the guitar (don't know how it compares to Guitar Hero), but at the same time a lot of bad rock songs. I listened to almost all of them and in addition to Metallica and Stone Temple Pilots which I liked already, I found about 5-6 songs from the more "obscure" sounding bands that I didn't know or had heard on the radio before but didn't know who they were. They also go good with the drums. At least I found some songs. I don't think Hole-Celebrity and Dani California are good for drummers. And I don't know why they picked that Foo Fighter song. So....here's hoping for that Nirvana album :D That's my review *****es.

I agree there aren't enough rockin' songs for the 2000's. I'm moderately pleased with the classic songs HMX chose, because that's what they are-classics. Songs that have endured and will continue to endure for decades. Will Main Offender or friggin' Celebrity Skin? NOOOOOOOO!!! HELL NO!! They really should have put more recent songs that have potential staying power on the disc and reserved the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and that other claptrap for novelty DLC. Some of the songs (on the setlist) suck, but not the majority of them.

There are some great songs on this game. In fact, only the inclusion of Fall Out Boy and (to a lesser extent) Coheed and Cambria keep RB from having, in my eyes, a perfect set-list. There are upbeat songs, and chill out songs. There is punk, pop, indie, metal, and big mainstream arena rock. I honestly don't see how anybody would be unable to find even a handful of songs that they don't want to play.

I tend to agree with you there. I can see Main Offender having staying power, as a cult classic if nothing else. But I cannot see Celebrity Skin, or anything that putrid harlot has ever recorded, ever being spoke of as any sort of classic.
At the same time, they want to appeal to a broader audience. So you get Courtney Love-Hole and Fall Out Boy along with The Who and Rush.

Yeah, Rock Band is doing a terrible job on song selection. They're choosing interesting/fun songs by popular bands with the potential to build a massive song library over time. Not to mention the fun in-house bonus bands.
Instead, they should be doing lame and forgettable tracks with an abominable set of bonus songs. (Oh wait, they already have that game out... it's called Guitar Hero 3)

Age is no excuse for ignorance, tbh. At least not once you're at the age that you can legally buy teen rated games. I'm 19, but I am still familiar with bands from the 70s, 60s, and even a couple from the 50s.
