Hey everybody,

Since we're all going to be rocking out soon, I wanted to try and hunt down a mic stand and a drum throne.

I don't want to spend a ton of money (since I'm already spending $170 on the game!). Any ideas or suggestions?

I would suggest looking at your local musician store, like Guitar Center or Sam Ash or whatever you have. Cheap mic stands are less than $20 I think, though for a drum throne you could use just about anything I would imagine.

There will eventually be an RB branded mic stand, I believe.

I went on to my local Craigslist to find both a drum throne for $10 and a mic stand for $15. I'm ready to rock!!!!.

I call my drum throne a "couch". :D

A couch or a typical low living room-style chair will not work well for drums. You need to have quite a high seating position to be able to play bass decently. One of those kitchen 'bar stools' would work pretty well. Also, you do NOT want whatever you're sitting on to be made of plastic, because this will cause severe Sweaty Ass Syndrome. Believe me, it's not pleasant. You want something fabric or leather covered. But yeah, it doesn't intrinsically *need* to be a 'real drum throne', the point of 'real drum thrones' is to be a) adjustable and b) portable.

I bought a drum throne off of ebay for 29$ shipped. I will look around my area for a mic stand.

If you plan on shopping online, I suggest zzounds.com. I purchased a mic stand and drum throne for about $50 and received my order within 4 days of purchase. I also used ground shipping as my option so, that's pretty darn quick.

When you buy a mic stand, does it come with the clip for the mic on top? In the product pictures on the various music sites I've looked at, it doesn't look like there's a clip on the stand (which, of course, makes it useless). Also, is the RB mic a standard size? It seemed a bit small to me in person, but then again I know very little about microphones.

I'm not sure you want to know what I use as my drum throne.

I bought a collapsing stool from walmart. $5. Another thing you could do is buy 2 folding chairs for $10 a piece. You leave one in the garage to cool in the winter air and use the other. Once one begins to make you sweat, you change them out. I used to do that when we would play Halo 1 all linked up in the garage.

yeah you need to buy a mic clip as well, I bought a nice stand in town for 22 bucks and they threw in the clip for free though (it was normally 5 bucks)

I predict you play in the bathroom sitting on the toilet?

While some couches may be too low, the typical kitchen "bar stool" would be far too high. What I usually tell my drum students is that you should be sitting at a height so that your thigh is parallel with the floor.

As has been said elsewhere in this thread, just visit your local music store and try out a few. Find something that feels sturdy, and that fits your budget. If you already have a bar stool with wooden legs, that might work if you're willing to cut the legs down so that you're at an appropriate height. (Heh, do it in smaller increments--you can always cut off more, but you can't put any back...)

If money isn't an issue, I've always liked the Roc 'n' Soc thrones:

Very comfy, very sturdy. I have this one in black:

But they cost as much as the entire Rock Band bundle. :(

yeah, admittedly, there's quite a lot of types of kitchen stool. wasn't a good example. some of 'em would definitely be a lot too high.

You said, "stool".

:p

I'll wind up hitting a music store around here to see what's available for both. I need something comfy for my arse. My media chair is in the lead right now.
