I realize it wouldn't be as cheap, because of the analog/digital conversion, but I'd love to use my Shure SM58 on the game. Maybe some kind of enthusiast adapter?

I always thought XLR cables only carries audio signals, and not any kind of data. Would this mean you would need software to convert sounds into digital data to tell the game what your hitting?

You can get USB adapters for 1/8" and 1/4" to USB for under $10 at retail
My guess is that they can do an XLR equivalent for no more than $20 retail, and tossing in the MIDI connector would be trivial. Call it "enthusiast connection pack" or something

Could you not just buy an adapter from a third party source instead?
As far as I know, Harmonix is only thinking about making it compatible with MIDI drumkits.. not actually produce hardware adaptors for it.

360 perpipherals must be "blessed" by Microsoft with a special chip. That's why they can't just make 1 set of universal peripherals but must be system specific

Hmm if that's the case, it makes the argument for MIDI drumkit support a tougher sell.. and I'd say rules XLR analogue-digital adaptor out altogether :/
Coz they'd have to be garuanteed an certain number of sales before they could offer a decent price to offset the initial production costs... users such as yourself may be too small to justify it, unfortunately.
