The endless Brett Favre saga is finally over! Favre was traded to the Jets!

holy ****! are you serious???

This better not be some sick practical joke

Edit: Nevermind, seeing it on ESPN, who are the packers getting for him? I imagine a draft pick, but who knows...

Nope I'm dead serious they are talking about this on ESPN right now!

Stewie

lol I think the Jets are gonna be better this year. I think the Jets might have a shot at the playoffs with Favre but the Superbowl? No not gonna happen.

Oz1215
08-07-2008, 12:09 AM
well, so much for Favre getting another shot at another ring...

He probably wont even be as good as he was last year, not due to age, but also because, according to him, the reason he was so good was because "he developed a connection with the players" and he probably won't have that connection, at least not for awhile.

It will also be interesting to see how he handles the New York Media.

And darnit i want a player! not a draft pick!

How sad for all concerned. I have been notoriously anti Favre, especially late in his career, but that's changed to anti-Pac with the way their management has screwed this up.

I will cheer every Aaron Rogers interception.

Maybe the Jets are in on this whole scam, and are going to trade Favre to Minnesota/Chicago for a better draft pick than the one they gave up!

If not, Favre should retire again. That would be hilarious.

Yeah, cause trading one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL to an in-division rival is a really sound move. :p

I was kinda hoping that he was coming back to the pack for at least one more year, because I wanted to see him when the pack comes down here to Florida to play the jaguars the day before my birthday.

I am happy it's over though, i want to give Rodgers a chance, and I think he will be a pretty good quarterback, but he will always be remembered as "the guy who replaced Brett Favre".

I heard that too. The Packers didn't want to get beat by Favre twice a year though so they refused to send him to a division rival.

^ Ah, excuse me, its late and i stop becoming coherent pretty much after 1 A.M

But i dont think that would be the case, he wasnt interested in talking to the Jets, according to ESPN. Heck, they're saying that he may decide to stay retired cause of the trade, but i dont see Favre doing something as low as that.

And I'm willing to bet the Jet's front office will shoot that down...the thing i see happening if after this year, he will either retire, or go on the free agent market (1 year left on his contract)

Honestly, i think he would a make a good coach in Green bay, wide reciever coach or quarterback coach.

I agree with Apples, it'd be absolutely hilarious if he retired again.

My bro's a huge Favre fan, but doesn't watch TV ever (too busy on Xbox Live). I've had to follow this whole story for him. I think the Packers were wrong, and I'm glad Favre got out of there, even if it's too the Jets.

This isn't just the end to the Favre saga (actually it's far from over), but an end to Chad Pennginton. Around here Pennington is a native son. Everybody loves him (went to Marshall, which is a mere 30 miles from where I live), even though he's really not that good. Now it's apparent the Jets have given up on him, and now all the people around here will shut up.

If he gets traded again it won't be to the Vikes:

"The exact compensation wasn't immediately available, but it is believed to be a fourth-round draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season.

According to the NFL Network, if Favre takes 50 percent of total snaps with the Jets in 2008, the fourth rounder becomes a third-round pick. If he gets 70 percent of the snaps and the Jets make the playoffs, it becomes a second-round pick; and if he gets 80 percent of snaps and the Jets make the Super Bowl, it becomes a first-round pick.

The NFL Network is also reporting that the Packers took great pains to ensure that Favre would not be traded to the Vikings by inserting a "poison pill" in the deal. If Favre were to be traded to Minnesota, the Jets would have to surrender three first-round picks to Green Bay."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3522971

If he's not traded I guess we'll see that Farve/Brady match up everyone wanted in the Super Bowl but didn't get.

I don't get why people put so much on the management. Yes, they screwed up, but Brett was the one who put them into an unwinnable situation.

I whole-heartedly support the Packers and when I wear my 4 jersey I will remember Brett Favre posthumously because he is now dead in my mind.

Umm...that's not what I was getting at. Basically I say "screw" Brett Favre. He obviously had no loyalty to an organization and fanbase that supported him for years. That's what I call a lie and in my book one that big means you don't get to be my friend anymore. Hence, Brett Favre = dead.

Favre will be a Jet for the year, but Pennington will most likely be leaving now, and I think will make a new home in Minnesota or Chicago. The good thing about Pennington is that the Jets do play outdoors, and in his better years he was known as a great outdoor/snowy cold conditions QB, much like Farve. Getting him into the NFC north, which has 2 of the coldest/windiest out door fields (Lambo and the new Chicago stadium) is great for him and hopefully the Vikings who I think will try and sign him

Go Vikes!

Yeah, the Packer front office better hope Rodgers is as good as they believe he is, or they better start keeping their dogs inside.

If Favre were to be traded to Minnesota, the Jets would have to surrender three first-round picks to Green Bay.

But what if the Jets trade him to a team other than the Vikings, and that team trades him to the Vikings?

I doubt it will happen, but I would love to see Favre lead the Jets deep in the playoffs, and Rodgers fall flat on his face, just to see how hated the Packer front office becomes.

You know, if the Packers (and their fans) hadn't been so enamored with Favre, they might have given Rodgers some more playing time over the past three years, and then they might at least have had the option to trade Rodgers to solve this mess. But based on half of one game, no team is going to make a legitimate trade for an unproven backup QB.

Now this is what makes me mad...everyone thinking its the Packer's front office's fault, when really, its Brett's fault for putting them in the situation, if we had taken him back, Arron Rodgers would've left after this year, then who would the Pack have? That guy from Louisville, thats who. Brett Favre retired, the Packers tried to move on, then...as usual Bret says he wants to play again. They want to show faith in Rodgers, and hell, we would never know how capable Rodgers is if we kept letting Favre come back.

All he wanted to do was play after being shoved into retirement by the Packers. All of the horrid teams that Brett made look like contenders on his own and this is how the Packers repay him. I lost all respect for the front office Favre is a living icon and should have been able to finish the way he wanted where he wanted. I have been a Packers fan for a long time but i cant watch Nfl anymore to much of a Moneymaker, It's not about the game as much as the drama. The Packers front office is to blame they owe it to Favre to just be patient. Owners and Front offices all over the league force players into decisions like this.

College football will start August 30th that is where you see football being played for the love of the game and not money and attention.

All he wanted to do was play after being shoved into retirement by the Packers.

The Packers didn't shove Favre into retirement. Favre decided to retire, and held a teary-eyed press conference to announce his retirement. The Packers decided to move on and plan for the 2008 season with Rodgers as their QB. Then Favre realized that John Madden and Joe Buck won't verbally fellate him as much if he's not playing, so he decided to come back.

Favre didn't want to be a backup in Green Bay, so he tried to force the Packers to trade or release him. But he was under contract with the Packers, so they were pretty much in the driver's seat. Favre wanted to play for Minnesota or Chicago. No way in hell Green Bay was going to let that happen. They made the trade they felt was best for them.

Could they have tried to placate Favre more than they did, given all he's done for Green Bay? Yes, but Favre put them in a bad situation, with his "I'm retiring... no I'm not!" routine. He made a decision, and the Packers planned for their future based on that decision.

He made his bed, now he has to lay in it.

Brewers, but I enjoy all sports as long as it's in HD. :p

OK, and to really get my point across, I'm going to quote myself from a different thread rather than retype it.

I own a gold #4 jersey and I say screw him.

EDIT: He brought this upon himself by all the waffling he did to us for FOUR STRAIGHT SEASONS. You coudn't watch a nightly news cast without seeing a "Favre watch" story EVRY NIGHT during the last four off seasons.

Here's why I'm confused:

1. The packers ask Favre if he's gonna quit. Favre says, "yes"

2. Favre hold a press conference and bids farewell going so far as to CRY. The man cried. Hard.

3. A month passes while Favre is in retirement. Everyone starts to look forward to Aaron Rogers including the Packers who put him in the #1 spot and draft two more quarterbacks figuring, "Hey, now that Brett definitely for sure told us he was going to be gone and cried at his farewell press conference, we should probably get the new guys up to speed because he's not coming back since he obviously told everyone so."

4. The media gets word that Brett Favre has "the itch" to play again. The media goes crazy.

5. After hearing fouth hand reports form everyone including the Favre's dog, we finally start getting word from Brett himself. His agent speaks for him and what every Packers fan hears wolrd wide is "Umm...yeah...uh, I actually do want to play again." He acts surprised that anyone thought that he was actually going to retire and says that all of a sudden he actually hates the Packers after years of loayl play and fans that adore him.

6. Everyone else on the planet says "OMG WTF!?" Because he lied. He flat out lied and is proving that years of service and loyalty are lies.

7. Favre demands that he should be traded because the packers won't bring him back because they hate him.

8. Everyone else on the planet says "OMG WTF!?" Because he is trying to use the Packers organization to bend over backwards due to his "senority".

So yeah, I say screw him. Years of this wishy washy garbage led up to this outcome and now he's trying to force the Packer's hand to get his way after he lied to him.

The best decision is to trade him immediately or release him right out, but that's far from the right solution.

the right solution is to sit him on the bench as the number two guy and say "Take your 13 million dollar paycheck and STFU."

From now on I will always remember Favre posthumously since he is dead in my mind.
