My ears are already bleeding at the thought of people trying to sing this..

Sounds like an awesome list though!

Wait, 3song packs again???
Please, don't tell me they force us to buy 3 song packs again.

Besides... no awesome song there.

Joker and the Thief and Buddy Holly are nice, but other than that...

And what about Radiohead? My Iron Lung??

What about Paranoid Android? What about Ok Computer!??

I hope this is fake.

Quite a few songs I'm looking forward to in that, and a few I'll have to give a good listen to.

Three songs packs is meh, but I hope they mean they're releasing them in groups of three or something and not that you have to download a three song pack.

Kinda like how Nintendo releases 3 VC titles a week, you know?

Edit: Going to give all of these a listen and see how many I like.

David Bowie -- Moonage Daydream
The Ramones -- Rockaway Beach
Radiohead -- My Iron Long
Creedence Clearwater Revival -- Fortunate Son
The Pretenders -- Brass in Pocket

If those are all actually DLC, I am SO freakin psyched! Roxanne! Fortunate Son! Little Sister! Bang a Gong! I Fought the Law! Holy crap! Not quite as good as some sweet Eagles action, but still freakin awesome!

Can we get any confirmation from someone here who has the actual magazine, or maybe even one of the HMX dudes?

:D

Quastor

I think that Bowie song is supposed to be "Moonage Daydream" unless he wrote a sequel or something I'm not aware of. Seems like an odd choice to me, there's a lot of instrumental parts to it in the middle. The three Bowie songs are 70's, so I wonder if they're going to stick to his earlier stuff.

As said, Wolfmother and Weezer are also nice if this is true...

Wouldn't mind War Pigs in RB either...

Whoa, missed Fortunate Son on the first read through! I'm going to be poor. :(

Queen ***** and Fortunate Son, both were high on my wishlist over the last couple of weeks.

VERY excited about more Radiohead, but there are so many better choices than My Iron Lung.

Though I guess it is appropriate with Creep.

Black Sabbath pack: N.I.B, Sweet Leaf, War Pigs, all covers
Fortunate Son -Credence Clearwater Revival
Juke Box Hero - Foreigner
My Sharona - The Knack
Cherry Bomb - The Runaways
Bang a Gong (Get it On) - T-Rex

Like:

Go give it a listen. This song ****ing rocks!

Yeah, it's good, but still, I was already shocked that Paranoid Android isn't on the disc, and now the first Radiohead DLC is not Paranoid Android either? WHY??
I know HMX knows that Paranoid Android is the most wanted Radiohead song here.

Anyway, yeah, some tracks are nice, but I still hope for Ok Computer.

Oh, and it really annoys me that there are 3 song packs again. I mean, I would like to have Bowie's "Heroes" but don't want the other songs....

Jeeves! I require fresh pants!

I really hope this is more than rumor and speculation, because we've got some true gems in here...

Jukebox Hero is PERFECT for Rock Band. It's not focused on difficulty, but instead on the experience of rocking the hell out in a huge stadium and doing some theatrics to amuse your drunken friends. So what if it's a series of sustained chords? That's not the point. The point is the awesome.

Iron Lung takes that and adds a layer of absolutely chaotic guitar and drumwork on top of it. It's got amazing builds, quiet moments, and explosions of frenzy. I've sung along to this one quite a few times and I'm REALLY looking forward to doing it for reals, yo, etc. Yes, there are other Radiohead songs out there, but frankly this is one of their most intense ones and VERY suited for RB.

I shall cross my fingers that all of this is true!

I hate hate HATE Jukebox Hero, but I'll be damned if I didn't think it'd be a great song for GH back in the day.

Other than that, this is all great news. I'm actually excited about My Iron Lung. Somebody complained about no Paranoid Android, but for many reasons, My Iron Lung feels like the Bends version of Paranoid Android to me.

Fortunate Son...what a blast it's gonna be to sing that song. I cannot wait.

Cool, that's awesome to hear. So how come you guys are able to do that and the *ahem* others across the aisle aren't? Rhetorical, I know. I'm sorry.

Anyways, will there be a discount for buying songs in packs? Or will it just be the price of an individual song multiplied accordingly?

I'll literally pay $100 for 3 Led Zeppelin songs.

Freaking sweet!!!! First "Who's Next", then this announcement. Is this shaping up to be the best game ever created? I think so!

Ones I will buy without a thought:
Buddy Holly - Weezer
Brass In Pocket - The Pretenders
Bang a Gong - T-Rex
My Sharona - The Knack
Juke Box Hero - Foreigner
Punk Pack (2 great tunes, 1 I'm not familiar with)
Police Pack (Some first class tunes, although they are going to be brutal on the vocal chords)
Black Sabbath Pack (Can't go wrong with Sabbath, especially after hearing the quality cover of "Paranoid")
David Bowie Pack (GREAT choices here. "Heroes" is such a great tune, as are the other 2)

Man am I ever looking forward to these. Better top off my points on Xbox live! Hmmmmm.... 5600 be enough?

I'm going to be broke for a long time at this rate!!

Needs more Just, but My Iron Lung is just (no pun intended) as awesome

And NIB and War Pigs... I don't think I'll ever stop drooling. Even if they are covers.

And I almost didn't notice Joker and the Thief! Awesome song too!

i want to find a job at Harmonix simply because it must be the most satisfying job in the entire world.

The fact that more companies - in gaming and otherwise - don't follow the motto: "People want to do THAT? Well, ok." is baffling.

It has to be the most rewarding feeling to see what people are thinking is a random dream, and just realize that by going and making it possible you've created a fan of yours, your product and your company, for life.

I think my least liked song of the announced RB DLC is still preferred to my favorite song of the released GH DLC, not counting the GH1 retreads. At least, for playing--the She Builds Quick Machines notechart is terrible.

Pretty great stuff. My father would probably appreciate it all more. I was hoping to get the metal the game doesn't have though. I don't count Metallica or Black Sabbath. If you do that's fine, but I'm not going to argue it. If you don't like metal I don't care either. I never said I did not want any of this music to be in the game. I actually want it all in the game and so I would like the same consideration. I will be getting all of the songs of course. DLC is going to kill bank accounts fast especially if it's as expensive as I know it will be.

I knew someone would have to say something negative and close-minded. So Iron Maiden is rock right? Just enjoy your rock and don't play the songs that aren't. I want to play rock and I want to play metal. I want to even play country and any other genre. No one from HMX has said what this game can and can not have so don't speak for them. The day they state that this game is specifically for rock only, which it already is clear it isn't, is the day I'll agree to just expect rock. So get over it.

Well if Sabbath isn't metal - your definition - Iron Maiden isn't either. I'm just saying if you're sitting around pining for more metal that perhaps you're just waiting for the wrong thing - it seems silly to be disappointed that its not in there, when there's no real reason to expect it to be. If some shows up that fits your definition - great! - but if not it seems absurd to complain it's no there. I'm sure there'll be some metal-y stuff eventually, but they are clearly being very focused on selecting songs that work for the whole band, and the must-have-double-bass-pedal!OMG!! metalheads are just not going to get Rotting Christ or Slipknot in the game.

Well maybe you just don't get what I mean when I say certain things. I don't have a problem with the majority of the songs and actually enjoy almost all of them. I'm really happy they are in this game. I'd personally also enjoy some things that aren't in the game. I don't consider that complaining. If you do then that's not my problem. I like everything and I'm a metal fan. I like double bass as well. I've never complained that they aren't in the game. I've only defended the idea of them being in the game since most people want the game to be exactly the way they want it. I believe in satisfying everyone. I think this game is off to a pretty good start and has the potential to be the greatest thing since sliced cheese. If you don't like cheese either then I'm just waisting my time with you. :p

Im wondering - and this may be a licensing issue with artists and labels - but I wonder, since you get a discount of sorts for buying a pack - but you CAN by songs by themselves - can you 'create' a pack for a discount?

Like, if they do decide to have 3 tiers of purchases - whole albums, packs, and individual songs.

And packs consist of 3 songs.

I wonder if anything listed as a single song, could be grouped together as a pack, for some savings?

Sorry if this is confusing, Im kind of thinking outloud. Where I can see the conflict of interest in letting you buy 2 of the 3 Bowie tracks, and a Police track and making a 'new' pack - I wonder if songs that are designated as INDIVIDUAL TRACKS can be bought in groups of 3 for some savings?

EDIT: The Dreamcast is still the best console ever. Thankfully after my copy of Sonic Adventure 2 broke I just picked it up on Wii. But now that I found Seaman on EBay ($7!), Im doing good again. Although my Samba de Amigo copy is sketchy at times...

yeah id rather see discounts based on total # of tracks purchased (so say maybe i wont buy an album, but if i pick 10 songs ala carte, can i get it at the price of an album?)...but then again we shouldnt be expecting all these songs to be released simultaneously. so when you say you want to combine tracks, remember that there might not be much to select from.

so since ps3's DLC for the other game has been priced at $6.25 for 3-packs (500pts for xbox)...do you guys think it's fair to have that same price set for RB's? especially since RB essentially has multiple parts for each song?

There's a big difference between fair and smart for pricing. I think most of the diehard group would gladly pay $6.25 for 3 songs we like, or $2.25 per song or whatever, but if they really want this to be mass-appeal to a wide audience base, the price point will have to be lower. This has been discussed ad-infinitum, but suffice to say that following Activision's pricing scheme is very likely not the optimum way to turn the most profit. Lower price point to where it becomes an impulse buy for grandma and you've hit the sweet spot.

Yeah - thats a good point. I dont know how many they'll release at a time. I know the last 3 GH2 songs that you could download (that I saw NO promotion for) were all individual tracks, but I think when I bought all 3 (Ugh...the ease of purchases through XBox Live + a case of Bud Light = an empty wallet) I think it cost MORE than the 3 packs do...weird.

But I just figure whatever "store" the DLC would be using is more advanced than GH2's (because it can tell the difference between wanting a track and a pack).

Actually, now that Im thinking about it, I bet you get a "store" screen, that has catagories - "Albums", "Packs" and "songs". Each catagory has a price. And the "songs" catagory will list songs from the other 2.

I dunno - just thinking out loud again! A lot of it Im sure has to do with who gets money for what is sold. Im also starting to wonder, based on trends of what songs are from what albums, if Harmonix over the years made deals with bands they liked that are benifiting them now. Like, perhaps long ago they paid a flat fee to use some of the Bowie catalog, and now it's actually benifeting them...

I'd LOVE an article with someone at HMX who talks about the licensing deals and how it all works. I find it real interetsing.

The song 'London Calling' is their most overrated song.

Come on guys, those of you buying The Ramones and The Clash but NOT buying The Buzzcocks??? Why not? That song rocks!
Agreed on both counts. I think I would have preferred one or two other Buzzcocks tunes but Ever Fallen in Love is a good start and gives me hope that we'll get stuff like the Rezillos or Undertones down the road as well.

Nice, now we just need Nevermind to be confirmed.

Also, it's nice to that you can buy singles songs from packs, 'cause I love Ever Fallen In Love, but the other two are just okay. Though if the price is right, I'll buy the pack.

Jukebox Hero....Great addition. It's one of the few Foreigner songs that fit in...a lot of their other stuff is keyboard or sax driven.

I'll be busy holding out hope for all of Boston (the album), or at least More than a Feeling/Peace of Mind. I don't think that it'll ever become DLC, but I'm fairly content with Foreplay/Long Time anyway.

Very psyched about the police pack, especially Can't Stand Losing You. Love the bass line in there.

Good choice of Bowie songs. I hope they put in Jean Genie eventually.

Oh come on, we all know it's extremely likely the first Boston album will be DLC, I just also want the second, the rest I'm not too keen on but I want 'Don't Look Back' which is my favorite AOR song.

Yeah, that's going to be seriously fun to sing. And drum to. And play guitar to. Bass line probably won't suck either.

I'm still pinching myself over My Sharona. Not because it's my favorite song or anything, but that's one that I've always thought would be a really, really good fit and just a blast to play with friends, but had figured that it was too much of an oddball or fluffy song to pick. HMX proves once again that the thing they know above all else is music.

Wouldn't you love to see the initial set of 3000 song titles they started from? Or know how many of those already have people authoring the note charts for them? :D

i'm guessing that 3 of the individual songs along with 1 of the packs will be available at launch and then the other packs and songs will come sparingly every week after. That seems to make sense since there's 6 packs and 9 songs. Hopefully it will be the Black Sabbath pack and CCR, Foreigner and The Knack because I'll buy all of those.

GAH! How many times do I have to bang my head against the wall with this subject? Slash's inclusion in GH3 has NOTHING to do with the GnR library. Slash does not own anything in the library, all control was signed over to Axl just prior to or during (not sure of exact times) the Use Your Illusion sessions.

Axl controls the GnR name and library. If he deems Rock Band worthy enough for the GnR songs, then he'll licence them (well, whatever company he's set up to handle licences will do it).

QFT.

Axl has owned all GN'R songs and the name since the UYI tour. Slash in GH3 was Slash's decision, WTTJ was Axl's, and if Axl and RB have agreed and do agree, GN'R will be in RB. Simple as. Slash whoring himself out to GH3 has nothing to do with GN'R not being able to be in RB.

I wish a GN'R pack would've been announced though. Oh well, these songs are gonna be a blast. Police, Sabbath, Creedence, Weezer, amazing.

Since Activision blinked first and committed to pricing, this is such an awesome opportunity for HMX/MTV to undercut and get the price down into the mass-market impulse buy range. Here's hoping...

I realize it's hard to accept that Rock Band didn't get Guns N' Roses music, but there's no reason to believe that Slash has nothing to do with it. A recent interview with a Harmonix employee basically says (it doesn't say this outright, but it's not hard to put two and two together) that they couldn't get a Guns N' Roses song licensed because Activision had made a deal with the record company to keep the music out of Rock Band. Why? Because with Slash acting as a spokesman for GH3, it would be ludicrous for the game's only real competition to have a song from his band too. Harmonix may have ran into the same problem in licensing a Rage Against the Machine song if they wanted one (because of Tom Morello in GH3). It's kind of sad to see this kind of business going on, but it makes sense.

I think Guns N' Roses DLC may still be possible, but very, very unlikely. It depends on how the deal made with Activision was worded and what it says, which no one can know. All we can really infer is that Activision wants to keep it out of Rock Band at all costs so they can ensure that GH3 doesn't become phased out too quickly. Unfortunately, all Activision really has left for ammo with the GH series is getting artists to be exclusive to Guitar Hero. And that sucks for everyone wanting to play their music in the game with more instruments.

This is going to sound really silly, :p but if we were to have a petition to have Guns N Roses in Rock Band where should we go? Should we make a petition on this board or go to the Guitar Hero board and ask for it. I'm starting to hate Activision and their business for doing shady business like this.

With PS3, only one of your band members would have to buy the song cuz you can share DLC with 5 buddies.

I still wish they would have put more on the starting disk, but this is the way these types of games will be for the foreseeable future.

Someone had a great business model... 169 + 3 weeks of DLC albums you may spend 200 on one game in a month.

True, but I'd frequently spend that much on other games during a month anyway and I'm certainly going to get more bang for my buck in playtime out of RB+DLC than I would any other 3-4 games I'd buy.
