i really thought that there wasnt enough punk in rock band 1. because i know so many different bands i really think it would be so awesome to sing, drum (maybe even guitar) some of my favorite songs. also i had just finished looking at the rock band 2 songs list and i wasnt very impressed:eek:, so i really think that they should put some songs by any of the following atleast to download or maybe even switch.

1 - anything by the misfits
2 - anything by the casualties
3 - anything by g.b.h
4 - anything by the distillers ( really awesome female vocalist)
5 - anything by the exploited
6 - anything by bad brains
7 - anything by (older 90's) anti-flag
8 - anything by rancid
9 - anything by the horrorpops
10 - anything by leftover crack
11 - anything by nekromantix

i know lots and lots more bands but these are just the ones that came to mind first so, if anyone else wants to suggest any other bands/songs awesome. i hope rock band 2 is great but it will be even greater with some better songs maybe.:D

I dunno, I just can't get behind anything more recent.

I'd rather have new recordings of the Misfits though. Most of their better songs sound like they were recorded on 4 tracks. I'd want Danzig's band to rerecord them though. That would be nice.

Why would they doctor "It's a holiday in Cambodia"? There's no swear words in that phrase.

That said, there's no way that's the drum chart, or the bass chart. I think it's a different song entirely.

The more I listen to HiC while looking at that screenshot, the more I think zack is right. That bass line is exact, as is the guitar. Pitch looks a little weird on the "It's a holiday in Cambodia" part, but it wouldn't be the first time HMX did something like that. And the drums look right to me at that section, too (maybe played on hard or medium?)

The lyrics don't match, but those lyrics don't match ANY song that either Google or I know of.

I'm not a fan of punk, but that really seems like saying "listen to Black Sabbath and then listen to Metallica". Obviously, they are different, but that's because they were formed in the 70's, where AFI were formed in the 90's. The sound will change over time.

I do like the Clash a lot, though. Haven't listened to others much... I might try some of them out.

agreed. i'd like a wider variety, particularly touching on post-punk because that really leads to such a huge range of sounds and styles. i think a lot of folks who complain about the overly straight-forward chord-fests would be surprised at how different a lot of punk and post-punk bands were...

I do enjoy listening to Punk music, but I do think a little can go a long way in Rock Band. The trouble is, a large percentage of the music most conventionally considered punk doesn't offer much variety for gameplay -- they're repetitive drums, guitar, and bass. (Look at Punk Pack 01 -- Ever Fallen in Love and Rockaway Beach being particularly strong examples of this.)

But there ARE Punk songs and bands that break out of this norm, and I agree that more of those would be a good thing. Someone earlier in this thread mentioned Sum 41 -- "In Too Deep" would be a great track for Rock Band with a lot more variety than typical Punk. If HMX could ever close a deal with Green Day, "Jesus of Suburbia" thumbs its nose at repetition.

Anyway, this post is now drifting into "Ultimate Setlist" territory, so I'll wrap it up...

I have. I'm not saying it isn't difficult. Indeed, at "Tier 4," you could call it among the most preposterously under-tiered songs in the game. But honestly, that's only because of the speed. There are really only two drum patterns in that song -- the one played while the singer is on "You spurn my natural emotions," and the one in the instrumental phrase after "...and I'm hurt." Those two patterns just repeat again and again throughout the song. That's what I mean by saying the song doesn't offer a variety of gameplay.

well, there's several little bits of flair in there. i agree that it would probably be repetitious if the drums weren't so unique and challenging (plus, the song's so short).

I think it should definately be said that we could use more MODERN punk. It's not like punk was only around from 77 to 79. And when I say modern, I'm not saying I hate older punk. I'm just saying that it would make more sense to use a Bad Religion song from "New Maps of Hell" than it would to use one off of Recipe for Hate.

If people would listen to newer punk rock, maybe it wouldn't fit into this stereotype "Punk is all repetitive and boring". Thing is, most of those songs you're thinking of are from when the bands were teenagers and could barely play. The ones that stuck around got better.

Also, I don't think it really counts that we're getting The Offspring. While I do like them, I just think that they stopped being punk before even AFI stopped being punk. Maybe not before Green Day did though... propably around the same time.

I'd much rather have something off No Control, Suffer, or Generator. While great, any BR older than Suffer has pretty poor sound quality. The new BR isn't half bad, but it can't touch the stuff from the 80s and early 90s.

I can't say I'm too broken up about a lack of punk. So much of it has just terrible/boring instrumentation.

I think Rock Band is definitely suffering from lack of punk rock. People seem to complain a lot about it being really repetitive but I find a lot of the rock, pop and metal in Rock Band to suffer from that same issue so I don't really see why punk doesn't get more attention. I mean the Clash, the Ramones and the Buzzcocks have been great. But I still believe there is a lot more bands out there that should be explored.

The problem I see is punk rock is a very broad genre these days, and means different things to different people. Personally I like the 70's and 80's better for punk rock.. but the song choices are key. A lot of the songs from the era are strictly power chords, that's why song selections would really need to be done carefully. From a person that for the majority listens to punk, I think it would serve Rock Band well to include some more punk into the lineup.

oh, i can understand why people are bored with the ramones songs. i personally only like to play them as group. i think they make for fun group songs.

if i could have any punk song in the game it'd probably have to be "mystery" by the wipers...

the song would be a bore to lots of guitarists out there, but i'd gladly step off my drum-throne and strum away for this tune.

I'd much rather have something off No Control, Suffer, or Generator. While great, any BR older than Suffer has pretty poor sound quality. The new BR isn't half bad, but it can't touch the stuff from the 80s and early 90s.

Agreed, just add How Could Hell Be Any Worse? to those albums.

Punk Rock? Like 8 beats and strum the same chord 16 times and yell about anarchy? Hmm. Nah.

I've mentioned them in plenty of punk threads, just didn't feel like posting my full usual list in this thread.

There's definately not enough punk. I don't consider the Offsprings punk at all, just alternative. So the only punk songs we got are Ramones and Clash..and I don't like either of those bands. Suicidal Tendencies, Dead Kennedys, and Misfits would make my day

I would definitly like some Bad Religion, NOFX, Anti-Flag, Pennywise, etc.

and I'm glad there's some more Offspring stuff coming soon (hopefully?)

Also, I'm aware that some of you don't think that's punk enough, but whatever. Not that I'm against having your "real punk" bands, it's just that I don't know any of their music, so I didn't list them

Misfits/Crass/Social D for sure! It'd also be great to see The Clash - London Calling as full-album DLC, and I know people will whine about what's REAL punk and what isn't, but Green Day - Dookie and Offspring - Smash would be fun to play.

EDIT: Why is it 5 seconds after I click post on any "Your Ultimate Setlist" thread I realize I forgot some awesome band?

the ultimate punk list:

Joy Division - Fathers of goth, post-punk legends... essential.

Iggy & the Stooges - duh.

The Cramps - fun psychobilly.

The Sex Pistols - duh.

Sham 69 - fun classic punk anthems such as "If the Kids Are United".

The Damned - "New Rose" is a classic punk song.

The Stranglers - bad ass.

Gang of Four - would be a challenge for drummers. kick ass songs.

The Fall - cool factor.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - loud and annoying, what punk should sound like.

Television - classic punk for the masses.

Wire - art punk for the indie kids.

It's really true. Punk is a lacking category in RB2. If the kids are united and speak up, maybe we can finally get our kicks.
