I've already had mine paid for so I'm getting it on the 20th... BUT my friend didn't :\ He just now had time to go down to GameStop and they said that they just stopped pre-orders for Rock Band.

Does anyone know of any other places doing pre-orders or any other way he could get it?

I heard Toys R' Us is still doing it. That is, if you have one near you.

if you can't get a pre-order then go down to gamestop the moment it opens. They say they're only selling it to people with pre-orders but you might get lucky and find they have some extras.

While it's unlikely that you'll be able to get one at any Gamestop, (Their business model somewhat depends on preorders for additional profit, and they want preorders to appear as the only way to get a new release on time.), I would recommend an early on release day visit to a "big box" retailer such as Target, Wal-Mart, or Best Buy.

It's unlikely the lines are going to be too extreme, so hanging out for an hour or two playing DS waiting for the store open would be fun and almost certainly net you a copy.

i think that they were getting to the point where they were having a tough time making enough copies just to cover the pre orders and that was why ea came out with the announcement that rock band was gonna be almost impossible to get, and then when people heard that they went and pre ordered more just to be able to sell or just to make sure they get one, and i bet that so many pre orders were coming in they decided to tell them to stop letting pre orders cuz they just cant make enough. I would say first go right now to any retailers that would let you pre order, and then if you cant get a pre order that way, youre gonna have to camp out on release to get this, and if that doesent work, then try e bay, and if that doesent work then he will probably be coming over your house a lot.

I just preordered one over at my local Trade N Play. Check and see if there is one near you.

I made my pre-order on November 2, and I heard they stopped taking pre-orders on Nov 5. Does this mean that it's likely they won't have enough copies for me when launch day comes around since I'll be lower on the waiting list?

That would totally suck...

As long as there are a couple of Walmarts and/or Targets near you and your friend can get there shortly after they open, I don't think you will have a problem getting one.

If you have/know anyone with an account, go to Costco. I always recommend them for things that sell out quick elsewhere. People don't usually think about them and they end up having huge stacks of the product. Worth a shot if camping out elsewhere doesn't work.

I see the bundles are actually 10 bucks cheaper at Costco too. If this gets around they may fly out of there faster than anywhere else. In that case I would line up at Costco well before they open.

problem with getting one from wal-mart is that they don't open at a certain time (open 24 hours) so you can't up your chances by getting there before they open. you could go at midnight but it's unlikely that wal-mart will release them immediately, and you could be waiting all night.

If there is a shortage at launch, what happens if a store doesn't get all their pre-orders?

Say that my local store had 20 pre-orders, and only got 14 copies of the game in. Do those 14 go first-come first-serve, to the people with pre-orders, or would they go down the list in the order that people pre-ordered?

Yep. Gamestop simply takes pre-orders. From there on out, it is a first come, first serve basis for the people who have preorders with them. So even if you were the last to preorder and you are the first one there, you are guaranteed your copy!

I'm taking the gamble and not preordering, myself. At the Best Buy I work for, I checked the numbers on the order we have to be shipped for launch day and, given they aren't accepting preorders for bundles, simply showing up at opening on the 20th should net me a copy easily.

I'm not giving numbers because, I don't know, I could be violating some something-or-other, although I don't see how.

Alright, we checked around... to the people that suggested Play N Trade, thank you! I never even knew we had one near here (nor had I heard of it), but we just called and he pre-ordered over the phone and will go down later to pay.

Thanks ;)
