I had to take a trip over to Target to pick up some college essentials, and figured I'd stop over in BestBuy real quick to see if they had Rock Band set up. Sure enough, toward the back of the store, kind of near the video game area, I saw an older Asian guy rocking out to Bon Jovi.

Anyway, I won't bother you with reviews of the game, because there are already way too many of those on these threads. I just wanted to say that I was really worried about the durability of the instruments, and after spending a half hour or so playing with the old man, I'm pretty confident that they will be ok.

Both instruments showed signs of abuse. The guitar was scuffed up, but played perfectly. The strum bar had no problems at all, and none of the keys felt crunchy or odd. The neck was also not flimsy, as I had been led to believe. It's plastic, not wood, so it's obviously not going to feel as solid as a real guitar, but it was much better than I was expecting.

The drums looked like they just got back from a war. One of the sticks had the head broken off (is that what you call it? I don't know) and was splintering all over at the top. The drum pads reflected this, as they had been scuffed, scratched, etc. The scratches all over the pads made it look a little cheap, and dirty, but I assume if you don't play with broken, splintered drum sticks they'd be fine.

I didn't hold back when playing at all, and played as aggressively as I ever would at home. Both instruments seemed to take the beating, and played just fine. At one point, I was really pounding away on the drums, and had some people in the store laughing.

The drums though...wow. I don't even care about guitar anymore.

And for those that are avoiding playing it, thinking it might ruin some of the fun when the game hits stores, don't worry. It's just enough of a taste to make you want the game even more.

This is how I play and it works fine for me, you just have to strum a little harder.

I swing my hand, and kind of hit/smack the strum bar with the side of my thumb, and only down strum.

I went and played for the first time last night....first I picked up the guitar.Started playing on medium and thought it was broken.Someone apparently had it on lefty-flip.Takes a while to get used to the guitar if you play Guitar Hero, but after 2 songs, it set right in and felt great.Next were drums and they were awesome.Anyways, about the abuse these demo's are taking. After a song or two on drums a teenage couple approached(loudly).I asked if they would like to join me.Well these kid's were so hyperactive it was rediculous. They were pounding so hard on the strum bar i thought for sure it wouldnt work again.I had to tell them to chill as they were screaming and overall being very rough..Next, He pounded, and i mean pounded the drums, I had to walk away i was to embarrassed standing next to them...Anyways, I left.Came back 2 hours later cause i just needed to try again..They were still there pounding away! finally they left and I got my hand back at it..Miraculously everything still worked! I was quite surprised actually. So, I now have renewed faith in these instruments after seeing the abuse first hand of what they go through. And that was just one couple! This store has had this demo for a few weeks now.I went 2 weeks ago and asked about it.The employee said they had it hooked up in the back. I said ''Is it on the floor somewhere so i can look at it?''He seen I was alone and then replied ''No, It's hooked up in the back, I would have to un-hook everything and drag it out here. besides, drums only work on multiplayer''.! I laughed and said forget it, and walked away. So the employees had there full fill im sure with these demo's before they even hit the floor! And this was weeks ago.

I hope so. My BB also had it set up fairly well, on a ~30" TV, and a decent pair of speakers, which allowed us to turn it up quite loud.

the only hd tv i have in my house is a 20 inch and the biggest otherwise that i have is a 36, so does anyone think that a 36 inch tv would be big enough to play rock band with all 4 players on, otherwise ill have to go to my uncles and use his 46 inch lol.

I think you should be fine. The only thing I'd be worried about is how clear the text will be for the singer, when not using an HDTV.

Some recent blog (Wired or 1 Up, can't remember which) mentioned that a crew was playing on a 20" LCD and things still looked nice and clear.

thats good to hear, but still when i look at the 20 inch i got, my mind just doesent comprehend how the 4 sections could look ok on there, but i guess i will see.

I just got back from Best Buy and when I got to the demo the guitar was on the floor on its face. Picked it up and it still worked fine. Upstrokes/down strokes whatever you wanted it did.

Local walmart that got their demo unit this week already has a broken guitar--the downstrums don't register anymore.

And this was a really low-traffic demo, I don't think most of the people in the area even had a clue it was there in the holiday section.

Oh, and it's called the bead (the part that broke off :P).
