I'm thinking there should be an Issac Hayes trbiute pack, since the legend passed away this afternoon. I think the pack should include The Theme From Shaft, Chocolate Salty Balls, and Make Love To Ya Woman. What do you all think?

Quote for truth. Any South Park song will do.

While good music is always welcome in the game, I don't think a tribute pack for Isaac Hayes (or most musicians) is the answer. After all, there was nothing for Bo Diddley, who inarguably was more of a legend (not to downplay the decades of work that Isaac Hayes put out, mind you.)

bo diddley's guitar will, supposedly, be in RB2. So tributes aren't out of the question

South Park? Really? The show's great, but that's kind of like honoring the passing of Raul Julia with an exhibition of the Street Fighter movie.

Isaac Hayes is the guy who sued South Park for making fun of scientologists in one episode because he was of course a scientologist, but didn't give a **** about them making fun of pretty much every other religion out there.

He's an *******, and selfish.

Sad to see most people only know him for his role on South Park.

Thats not all I know him for. I just those 3 songs would be the most to play for the most people.

The Shaft Theme would be awesome.

However, this should be in the Ultimate Setlist forum.

He didn't sue South Park. He just wanted out of his contract with the show, that's all.

but it was over the scientology episode. Which I think is just stupid. It's not like they single out a group. they go after everybody on that show.

First of all, this thread should be in the Ultimate Setlist forums, which is where it's going toute suite.

Second of all, please don't bump threads, especially not your own threads. That's just... wee, with lack of a better word, lame.

I guess he couldn't control his Thetans.

No, I got no respect for him anymore. The songs would be fun, but put them in because the songs are good, not in tribute to him. He was an *******.

These days he's best known as the voice of Chef on south park, but before that he was best known for writing and performing the theme from shaft.

He's a jazzy/R&B vocalist, similar in vein to Barry White.

Very good vocalist, but he's a hypocritical jerkwad.

"Scuse me, he WAS a hypocritical jerkwad. Now he's just worm food.

Oh, if you were asking WHAT he sang;
Walk on By, SHAFT theme, Do your Thing, Don't Let Go, Joy, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Never Can Say Goodbye, etc.

I believe this all goes back to the reason he left south park. I look at from the point of view that every man has that line. South Park crossed his so he parted ways with Matt and Trey. What's so wrong with that?

GameJunkyJim
08-10-2008, 10:55 PM
FacePalm for your posts sir.

Why would you talk about the dead like that? Was his hypocracy that offensive to you? Please share what exactly Black Moses did to make you so angry at the man.

Hypocrisy is always offensive to me.

Get this. I don't much like South Park. It's childish, banal and idiotic. That being said, he had no problem being on that show making fun of Jews, Muslims, Christians, Atheists, Agnostics, or Buddhists, but he quit and threatened to sue to get out of his contract if they didn't let him go after they made fun of Scientology. He then goes on to say that you shouldn't make fun of people's religion, after he had done it for a paycheck for 7 or 8 years.

The man makes me sick.

But that being said, he's a good singer and songwriter.

Where is your proof that he threatened to sue? I've looked online and seen nothing of the sort. Now TOM CRUISE threatened to sue, but I've seen nothing about Hayes doing it.

It's heresy, from Matt Stone and Trey Parker and a few other people who worked with him. No reason to lie about it though, and it certainly fits the timing and whatnot.

That it would be really sad, no to mention a bit tasteless to use some South Park songs. He wrote songs that were a tad more essential than those...

Is it really true that he was in to Scientology?? I mean I had respect for the man, but if that's true then I just lost it.

he was, and because he was famous, he got a direct route to the upper tiers. He didnt have to deal with the financial insolvency, physical labor, ruined families, restrictions on relationships and children, etc, etc, etc that the average joe has to do to be a member of that "religion". It is very easy for these "celebrities" to defend a religion when they havent had to experience what it is everyone hates about it in the first place.

wikie has a brief list of "controversies" surrounding the cult
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_controversy

info on the "Sea Org" (scientology "military"):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Org
I particularly like the ONE BILLION YEAR CONTRACT!!!!

This is a forum of people discussing scientology. Approx half of the people on there are ex-scientologists:
http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/index.php
http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/index.php

on a side note. I don't blame isaac hayes necessarily. the cult was evil. he was just a follower. he will be missed. i am sad for his family. I will continue to remember the good aspects of his life.

snip.
I don't know if this is the right place to get into that kind of discussion.
Being a Scientologist was his choice alone to make. The only thing he did wrong per se was being a hypocrite when he said "You shouldn't make fun of religion" when he had no problem with making fun of everyone else's but his.

I was actually thinking about what Theme from Shaft would be like on RB3. It would probably be the most fun on guitar. Lots of Bee Gees-esque strumming. Harmonies too.
