Personally, I do not like trading in my games. I really like to own things and have a hard time getting rid of video games especially. I kind of understand why people do, but wonder what all of your opinions on the matter.

Yer I haven't ever traded in any of my games, but theres a couple (Tony Hawk's) that I really can't be arsed to play anymore. Maybe I might trade those in sometime.

I don't trade in games. I keep them all. You can't get any value unless it's only weeks old. I prefer to keep games for nostalgia purposes.
Only time I ever did trade in was when the former, EB Games, ran a promotion for the Gamecube. Bring in a Playstation, ten games, and get a Gamecube for cheap. I don't remember the dollar amount, but it was a steal.
I have since sold the Gamecube though.

i always trade in. i play through a game, and that's it, i'm usually done. i'm not a big online player. so, rather trade it in then have it sitting on my shelf collecting dust.
matter of fact, right now the only thing i have is Rock Band. pre-orders out for Too Human and Rock Band 2, which will keep me occupied until my birthday (November) and Christmas, which i'll get more games that'll take me through the summer of 2009 to complete, which i'll then trade in and pre-order games from the end of summer up to the holidays again.
it's a never ending cycle for me.

I typically don't trade games, because most video game store employees are annoying enough when they aren't taking delight in the fact that they're raping you on the trade in value. But I do sell old games on eBay.
I used to keep old games, but then decided that selling them made more sense. I'm 37, and while I forsee playing games well into my adult life, I don't see myself going back and replaying FFX, for example. Too many games I haven't played, and too many other demands on my time.

i trade in games when i dont play them AT ALL anymore....and i dont usually get raped by the price...i got 20 for gears of war at gamestop the other day...and thats pretty good you can get it for like 30 bucks. I also trade 'em in when i dont really like playing them...usually wait till i finish the game though.

i usually wait to by most non-rock band games until they are under 30 bucks, so they aren't worth anything anyway. i don't feel the urge to get most games right when they come out...

When I don't play it, I sell it. But when the urge comes to play said game again, I just rent it.

Two words: RIP OFF. Sell your games on ebay, you'll get 3 to 4 times the amount GamePoop will give you in a trade, and newer games will fetch almost full retail.

I keep my games. Heck I still bust out the NES or Genesis and play Super Mario Bros 3 or Sonic occasionally.
But I love that people do, it lets me buy games used. :)
And I have traded one game - the Forza Motorsports that came with my 360. I hated that game, so I traded it for Ridge Racer, and was much happier.
Years and years ago, I used to trade things in (books or occasionally records). I always regretted getting rid of them, so I never do that anymore. Because I know, 5 or 10 years down the road, when the thing is completely unavailable I'll want to experience it again. And be annoyed with myself for having traded it in.

What is the point of keeping games you don't play anymore? Did anyone keep their VHS tapes for nostalgia purposes? That's just silly.
I don't play as much as I used to, maybe a few games a year, but when I finish them I sell them for credit for the next game. Yeah, I know that stores make a killing from used games, but I don't have time to be putting them on Ebay and dealing with that. I beat Bioshock a while back and I'm trading it in for Rock Band 2 when it comes out.

I should've done this. I traded in like 10 PS2 games for a total of like $3.74 and used that to reserve Madden '09, which by the way i have to go get tonight.

Trading in games you don't play = $ for games you will play.
Simple enough to me.

I trade in games only if I really don't like them. Even then i'd prefer to sell them on ebay because atm gamestop would probably give me 10$ for call of duty 4

I sell some games, but directly. I cut out the middle man. The customer gets a better price, and I get more money than Game$top or EB will give me.

We never trade stuff in, which explains our large collection.
If we want to trade towards something, we find fodder at used game sales.

I used to trade games when I was 17 or so, but I refuse to do it anymore. I will buy used, but I won't sell. My collection of video games is massive, and is worth thousands of dollars because I've learned how to tell which games will actually retain value.

for me it just depends on how much I want the game in question and how little I play the ones I have. I'll trade just because I can't be bothered to mess with ebay. I don't look at games as a monetary investment, so I'm not really looking to try to make 5 or 10 dollars more on a trade it. I consider the $60 already gone. If the thing is collecting dust, it will get traded.

I use to trade in games all the time a few years ago. Now I never trade in games except for Rainbow Six Vegas 2(regret of the year). Got 30 bucks for it and got GTA IV.

I'm a keeper - never traded nor sold any of my games. Hell, I still have a boxload or two of old Commodore 64 and Atari ST floppies in my basement somewhere.
The stuff I probably won't play again is also the stuff that probably isn't worth more than fifty cents anyhow. Might as well hold onto it for a rainy day...

If I'm short on cash and desperatly want an upcoming game, or if I can get more trade in credit towards the purchase of another game, like in the case of RockBand 2 (30% more) I will.
But recently I have kept all the games I have purchased,
CoD4
Rockband
Singstar
MGS4
GTA4
Warhawk
Eye of Judgement
DragonBall Z (My son's game)
Lego Indiana Jones (same as above)
Mainly cus all of these have a lot of replay value, I do regret trading Uncharted and Heavenly Sword, mostly Uncharted becuase of the trophies now.
