Personally, I'd say you're way off on some of those. Highway Star is definitely in the final tier for guitar, IMO.

penultimate means 'second to the last' not 'better than ultimate' - it's a common confusion. 11pm is the hour penultimate to 12pm, for example.
Anyway - I think you guys have got the guitar tier pretty much dead on - Id go:
Guitar
1- Green Grass and High Tides
2- Flirtin With Disaster
3- Run to the Hills
4- Highway Star
5- Welcome Home
Drums
1- Foreplay/Long Time
2- Won't Get Fooled Again
3- Run to the Hills
4- Don't Fear the Reaper
5- Tom Sawyer
Vocals
I'd have to spend more time on it - it's something that's harder for me to gauge.

I usually get annoyed when people correct me over the interwebs, but for some reason this actually made me laugh and I do honestly appreciate the correction. Really had no idea.

Ha! I only mentioned it because a good friend of mine went crazy when people - myself included - used it like that. He's an English major, obviously :) Thanks for the Live friend request, by the way.
@Rocker2 - man, I think you really overestimate Enter Sandman - I'd imagine that being somewhere in the middle.

Metallica songs are always in the last tier of guitar hero so I'm betting on tradition

I'm not going to bother with a list or anything :P But it was officially stated a couple of months back that Won't Get Fooled Again is the finale on the drum solo tour...so if you guys are going for points or anything...there's a guaranteed one. :P

I agree that it's not a middle-tier song, but I'm thinking it's also not final tier. Probably second-to-last, IMO.

Eh? Personally I think Cherub Rock and Reptilia have a very good chance of being upper-tier if not final, but we will see!. I didn't mention some songs twice because I'm hoping each final tier is unique :)
I believe Highway Star could be definitely on the top 5 for vocals, though.

Yeah - but they are in order of difficulty. Also, is there even a Metallica song in either GHI or GHII or GH80s?? The only one I can think of is One, and that's in III, which hardly makes it tradition, especially since it's a different company doing the track listing :rolleyes:

I just went back and listened to Flirtin' with Disaster. I probably won't edit my list, but that song definitely deserves top or next-to-top tier in both drums and guitar.

I still think it will at least be in the second to last tier but it will definitely be higher than the middle tier

Dude, Reptilia and Cherub Rock will be no where near the final tier. Have you played them in GHIII? They're easy as hell.
This is the final guitar Tier I'm betting, the ordering for everything but the encore is most likely different though. Green Grass and High Tides is definitely the final encore.
Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home
Iron Maiden-Run To the Hills
Deep Purple - Highway Star
Molly Hatchet-Flirtin With Disaster
Final Encore: The Outlaws-Green Grass and High Tides
And the final encore for Drums has already been confirmed as Wont Get Fooled Again. I'm betting the final encore for vocals is Run to the Hills

I think most people's choice for guitar is close, I'll borrow someone else's:
Guitar
1- Green Grass and High Tides
2- Flirtin With Disaster
3- Run to the Hills
4- Highway Star
5- Welcome Home
But as for the other 2? Way off, everyone's way off ;)
Vocals
1 - Epic
2 - Ballroom Blitz
3 - Dani California
4 - Next To You
5 - Creep
(I don't think Sabotage will be anywhere near there)
Drums
1 - Won't Get Fooled Again
2 - Tom Sawyer
3 - Next To You
4 - Highway Star
5 - Cherub Rock
(I think Learn To Fly is pretty far off; I also don't think Reaper will be final ;)

Reptilia is in the second tier of GH3, I can't see it going higher than the middle point. Cherub Rock maybe 3rd or 2nd last.

Aerosmith - Train Kept A-Rollin'
Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills
ENCORE: The Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides

Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills

Guys, seriously - I'm not a Boston fan at all, but Foreplay is going to be absurd on Expert - so listen to the first minute of that and tell me that's not in the top drum tier.

If it were just the first minute, I might agree with you. The rest of the song seems like an upper tier song, but not a final.

Well Foreplay is a pretty damn hard drum song but once Long Time hits in, it's pretty simple. I didn't include it in my list because I have a feeling it will be the Encore for the 2nd last tier for Guitar and Drums (maybe 3rd last). It's too epic of a song to not have it as an Encore.

You guys seriously think Highway Star would be in the last tier? It's a good song, but listening to it it's not very challenging. Reptilia is nowhere near a last tier song, on GH3 that song was one of the easiest I played.

I thoroughly agree with the Enter Sandman thing. Not horribly hard guitar.

Well that fast solo in Highway Star is like the Knights of Cydonia solo on crack. Not to mention how long it is.

BTW Reaper is easy on drums, isanely repetative, at least in the version I played at X07 Canada.

Why not ...
Guitar
1. Green Grass and High Tides
2. Highway Star (the solos are insane)
3. Vasoline
4. Welcome Home
5. Gimme Shelter
Drums
1. Won't Get Fooled Again
2. Foreplay/Long Time (just saw a video...wow!)
3. Detroit Rock City
4. Flirtin' With Disaster
5. Tom Sawyer
Vocals (this is pure speculation, a list of songs I have a hard time doing even knowing the lyrics)
1. Run to the Hills
2. Electric Version (put this in the wild guess category)
3. Sabotage
4. Main Offender (some of the notes he hits are insane)
5. Epic

Highway star is not very challenging??? Listen to those solos again ... various timing, swaps between up-to-down and down-to-up the fretboard and its very, very fast. I think the comparison to Knights of Cydonia is quite apt.

Well, assuming tiers are five songs, in no particular order...
Guitar
* Green Grass and High Tides
* Highway Star
* Welcome Home
* Flirtin' With Disaster
* Train Kept A Rollin'
All songs that are fairly long and have tough guitar parts. Run to the Hills could be a trade-in for any of these.
Drums
* Won't Get Fooled Again
* Tom Sawyer
* Don't Fear The Reaper
* Electric Version
* Detroit Rock City
Just a feeling I've got on these songs, but I'll be honest, I haven't listened to them at great length, so this is the list I'm still somewhat undecided on.
Vocals
* Ballroom Blitz
* Run To The Hills
* Tom Sawyer
* Highway Star
* Next To You
I can't really see Epic being overly tough. Unique vocals, but not particularly challenging. I think the challenge is going to involve a wide vocal range with a fair bit of speed. Sabotage, for another, has the speed, but it's all rap, which I don't think will be too tough.
army_of_me
11-09-2007, 04:18 PM
Consider my mind boggled. I don't understand why people keep thinking Sabotage will be a hard vocal song. It's mostly yelling; little to no held notes. And it's not even fast yelling. I'd say Dani California and certainly Epic are far closer to "rap" than this (and will be much harder). Even "Here It Goes Again" will be harder.
And I'll also say again, I agree with the comment that Reaper on drums will not be hard as some people think. Yes, it's fast, but so is Paranoid, Blitzkrieg Bop, Next To You, Dead On Arrival, and Run For the Hills (although RFtH's got that little hi-hat speediness that will make it pretty challenging). The rhythm itself is fairly straightforward; it seems more like an exercise in endurance than anything.
