View Full Version : Detailed Bug Report: Song Scroll Lag in Solo Tour (360 and PS3 versions)

I went ahead and benchmarked the song scroll rate within Solo Tour on my PS3 and 360. In both of these benchmarks, I went to Downloaded Songs and started from the top with "(Take These Chains)" by Judas Priest and stopped at "Zero" by Smashing Pumpkins. I attempted to use the blue fret trick detailed here (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69596) on both platforms. Here are the results. My 360 has ALL of the DLC with a total of 244 songs, while my PS3 has most of it with a total of 230.

Time elapsed to scroll from (Take These Chains) to Zero

360 without blue fret = 36.65 seconds
360 using blue fret trick = no measurable difference
PS3 without blue fret = 1 min 25.16 seconds
PS3 using blue fret trick = 1 min 10 seconds (approximate as I only have 2 hands)

Xbox 360 scroll rate = 5.08 songs per second
PS3 scroll rate without trick = 2.02 songs per second
PS3 scroll rate with trick = 2.46 songs per second

That means that the blue fret trick nets a 22% scroll rate increase on a PS3 with 230 songs of DLC and no measurable difference on the 360.

For comparison, I scrolled through using Quickplay on Guitar from "Should I Stay or Should I Go" to "Thrasher"
The results?

Xbox 360 = 21.66 seconds
PS3 = 20.42 seconds

360 Quickplay scroll rate = 11.27 songs per second
PS3 Quickplay scroll rate = 11.26 songs per second

This means that the bug is causing a 457% increase in delay on scrolling on the PS3 and a 122% increase in delay on the 360. In layman's terms, it scrolls 5.5 times slower on the PS3 and 2.2 times slower on the 360.

The delay caused by this lag is getting worse and worse as you purchase and download more and more DLC. This is clearly a bug that needs to be fixed as evidenced by the fact that neither console has the issue on Quickplay. This lag is evident even when browsing through the main setlist songs during Solo Tour and is even worse as you go from venue to venue.

Please Harmonix, this is a bug that NEEDS to be fixed! If you care about consumer confidence in your game as a platform then you should deal with this software problem with a patch immediately or at least state why such a patch wouldn't be feesible.

I might ponder mailing one of the HMX forum guys and ask them if they could possibly point this out to someone useful. I know the EA people have been pretty busy late with stuff outside of here.

This is a very serious game-design flaw, and it needs to be addressed!!!!!

Dang that's a lot of DLC. I've got maybe 20, tops :P I'm not seeing any lag yet.

Five stars for you. Too bad nobody from Harmonix reads these threads.

Good job Phane! Just hope someone at HMX will actually read this and address the issue...

I don't see how you can say that, they respond to threads on a pretty regular basis.

Yeah. This has taken way too long to be addressed. Really disappointing. But really nice job with the timing it and all.

Yeah, it's gotten to the point now where even though I want to go into solo tour and play new songs, I either don't bother playing at all or just use quickplay (Even though solo quickplay doesn't let you use your own character) sometimes because it's just not worth it going through all of the disc songs and all of the downloaded songs just to get to only one or two songs... Also with Rock Band 2 coming up I'm not as concerned with beating everything now, but...

It'd be nice to at least hear anything about them looking into fixing it, I don't remember anyone from Harmonix posting anything pertaining to this problem.
