Few things wrong with what you said:
1. I Beat YOU to it. (Look at the last post on this thread by me, and the date.) (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=308)
2. I think they do beta testing by location, so you have a slim chance.
3. They are probably done.

Really? Game companies never release a ton of info before Beta Testing or before the game is somewhat playable. GI had a ton of info, plus the GI guys got to play it (it's even in a picture earlier in the magazine). So it is most likely done, and in the final stages (or around there).

Sounds like Harmonix are their own Beta testers...
But regardless, if they were d-u-n done w/ beta testing, wouldn't we be getting the game MUCH earlier than 6 months from now? I mean, I would assume beta testing includes many, many play-throughs of each song, on each difficulty to make sure it's all tweaked right. I'm guessing that the core of the game is done, the major features, the overall gameply, etc. Right now they're most likely in polish mode for stuff like interfaces, models, menu screens, venues, etc. Meanwhile, the song selection committee is continously adding more songs to the game, my guess is they have around 20 at the point, with hopefully much more to go. As songs are added, they've got to record them (if not master tracks) then map them into the gameplay, for each instrument, and then go through that testing cycle. For each song. I'd be very curious how long it takes to test one song considering four difficulty levels, and 3 different modes of single person play...not to mention co-op, face-off, pro-face off, practice, etc, etc...
Plus they're probably still cranking away new 'items' like cothing options, guitar skins, and all that. I'd guess they probably should have all the characters designed and modeled for the most part, and all venues pretty much done.
who knows though, I'm no game developer...but this is how I picture the whole process. I very much doubt they're all sitting there with a basically final version of the game in front of them...

1. Your post was off topic, so does not count.
2. My location is UK, so I get to test the PAL version :)
3. I don't think they will be quite at the Beta stage yet, they would need a fairly complete product to do beta testing. Ive dealt with a lot of beta software having worked for a few companies that write large applications, but I have never dealt with (in an official capacity) games producers, so I am not sure at what stage they would consider a product to be beta.
Anyway, I was just trying to wake everyone up today, I realise that I will not be beta testing anything :( but its nice to dream :)

I am pretty sure that the QA team is the testing team. At least the title Quality Assurance would lead me to believe that.

hey look at that I live within an hour of Boston, yay. And the Halo 3 beta took place well after they released info on the game. And yeah by the looks of it the game is it's very raw state, so I doubt they'd have beta testers when it seems like the game is just starting to be put into one piece (or 4 whatever)

They did some beta testing in late April/Early May.
