So Kyidro and I just got back from our local Best Buy... and I must say, holy ****. This game is like Guitar Hero II times Jesus times Moses to the power of Chuck Norris.

Yes, my friends - it's THAT damn good.

So, here we go. First of all, I play guitar. I have a Fender Stratocaster, and I must say that they did a pretty damn good job of replicating it. I expected it to be a little heavier and a little bigger, but it pretty much concurs with what everyone has been saying. I was nervous about the strum bar... in fact... I really didn't want to play the guitar partially because of what I've heard about the strum bar. The first thing that I noticed is that it is thinner, which for me, is a welcome change because it makes it feel like a pick. The second thing that I noticed was what I dreaded... the absence of clicking from the strum bar. I must say that after playing with it, I am a converted believer. It took me failing Paranoid one time to get used to it, but now it feels ridiculously natural. I also love the lower fret buttons.

Now, on to the drums. I played them on hard first and managed 85% and then tightened up my skills to hitting percentages in the high 90's so I decided to take it to the next level and play on expert. It is HARD AS HELL - and that's without the damn bass pedal. But I can't quite decide if I like playing the drums or guitar better... I guess we shall see in due time.

I felt kind of bad for the poor GHIII demo sitting next to it on pause with everyone crowded around us and not paying attention to it. We all know how much of an attention whore that Guitar Hero is. In fact, it upset me because they only had one guitar and a drum set hooked up and claimed that the mic didn't work with the demo, and Kyidro and I took my little brother who will be playing drums for us so I got stuck with GHIII several times. I sat there and looked at the hideous singer and robotic drummer... the badly rendered audience... and my horrible note chart and I couldn't quite help but feel a little envious that the two bastards next to me were playing what I consider to be one of the best, if not, THE best video game of all time.

Hopefully Kyidro will be on in a little while to elaborate for you all.

Guitar Hero III is actually a really good game, and has a great setlist, and deserves more credit then what you're giving it. I'm not saying it is a better game than Rock Band, both games have their pros and cons.

I just can't get past the fact that the game felt horribly rushed. It seems like the spent as little time as possible on everything. Of course, this is also in comparison to Rock Band, which I feel is a much more polished game overall. It seems better in many different departments.

How is it rushed? I thought the game was really solid and the new online features were great, Battle Mode is awesome. I think Neversoft did a great job, and they definately are the ones to keep the franchise going. Rock Band felt exactly like GH3 apart from RB's notes are thinner.

The graphics are indeed night and day, but Guitar Hero has a way better Guitar feel to it then Rock Band, though I can't deny how amazingly awesome the drums are to play I woke up today wishing I could play it.

Not rushed, I just think they spent a lot more time on the visual of the game rather than the actual gameplay, They tend to do a great job at that. GH3 is a great game, but if you're not more than an average Expert player, Expert on GH3 is just insanely stupid and none of the charts make any sense.

I like GHIII, but battle mode is ******ed.. there is almost no point to it.. and everytime I play it always goes to sudden death.. what it is the point? Pro-Face off for the win.

I went to play the rock band demo for the 3rd time today! This time the Red pad on the Drum was broken.. so I had to turn on left flip and sacrifice the least used note! I got used to the guitar.. I noticed if you lightly tap it, as opposed to smack it like the GH controller it works quite well. I also feel the frets are WAY more comfortable, and it was way easier to slide across them. The only problem I had was going from higher to lower and vice versa!!

RB has some nice songs coming out for DLC that sound hella fun on the drums!!

The note charts for GH3 really aren't good at all. Thats coming from somebody that bought and has been playing GH3 since the release day. I know somebody said that if you turn the special FX down and the band down then you will notice how weird the guitar sounds. Thats not it though. Even with EVERYTHING on you will be playing random notes when there is absolutely NO SOUND AT ALL! I don't know about other people but that really throws me off. Like it happens every so often in Welcome to the Jungle and it also happens in the beginning of Before I Forget (and later on).

I agree that Guitar hero 3 does feel rushed out. It's a decent game and I've been dying for some new songs so it's welcome... but it feels as if every single thing has been made by a different company altogether, and they just slammed it all and hoped it fit. Which it didn't so well.

Every single aspect of the game lacks this unifying feel that makes a good game a great game.

And about the Battle Mode, please. Way to take the attention away from the music, all it does is make games last shorter than the songs, so you end up playing a bunch of incomplete songs, that are butchered because of insane difficulty enhancers like Lefty and Double. Not only it makes the game near impossible to play, it butchers the music, and in a game ABOUT music, that's not really forgivable.

So yah, it's a decent game, but that's where it ends. The less I have to look at the singer's face, the better off I'll be.

...and sorry for near-Thread jacking.

All of you people getting a chance to play before release make me a sad little French Canadian, who missed his only chance of trying it out a couple of weeks ago. But it's just around the corner, and I don't mind a trip down the border to snatch a copy.

RB has sharper graphics, a more in-depth character system, better note charts (Bad bad BAD note charts. I know how to play half the songs in GH3 and they didn't seem realistic for ****, including, but not limited to TTFAF, Raining Blood and Before I Forget). I don't have problems with DOING the songs. I five starred most songs on my site-read, but I just find them to be lacking in the reality department. Everything that I played on RB had a better feel to it.

Yea, from the Demo songs.. on expert the note tracks make WAY more sense.. although it is easy for GH standards on some songs.. the whole point of the game is fun and not random button mashing! I found the note charts to be VERY realistic in RB. Although the button mashing in GH is fun too, especially when you get the hang of it.. but it tends to start to hurt (TTFAF!)

Hey, did anyone else notice that there are certain points in the song where the crowd will SING ALONG?

Freakin' Awesome, man! This is the kind of attention to detail that's gonna make this game so sweet.

I don't feel it's fair, at all, to rip on GH3 for battle mode. I don't like battle mode in the least, but the solution is simple--ignore it. It's not as if my enjoyment of the game is dampened by the fact that it exists, after all.

Also, am I the only person in the world who likes the singer's look? I think he's hilarious, looks like a Muppet.

My friend is right...I was playing Bass on Say it Aint So, since Ill be doing that in vox and I wanted to see how it was like and i must say it was awesome. The visuals are so beautiful compared to GH3. The singer doesnt look like he eat my soul or the drummer actually can play, like a human.

The game is amazing fun, I wanted to sing so much but the BB rep said it would work for some strange reason. They wouldnt even let me fix it T_T.

guys relax, if you play the real guitar like i do, youd know that some if not most of those songs actually play the same way in the real guitar, i loved it and was really impressed by the GH3 note charts... i can admit there are too many 3 button chords and they piss me off ..... but overall i think GH is a great game

Yeah, The sounds are a good choice and Im loving the new Overdrive Mode. It looks so nice and with the added effects to the sound like flanger and wah-wah. I must say this is one game Ill definity be selling a bunch of stuff to occuire...Black Hole Sun would have been amazing to sing and same with Say It Aint So. I also like how the game is unforgiving for missing notes. And you better not fail out on Guitar...or thats basiclly it...

Also when i played Guitar a few times this little kid was playing drums and he kept hitting the xbox guide button with the drum sticks. It was scary, he kept smacking everything and even hit me on the should and the neck of the guitar. lolz I was torn between laughing, keeping my streak, and horrified at the kid destroying the drum kit.

The only time I went online and tried to play a game that was NOT a battle, I couldn't get anyone to join in. so yes, it does dampen my enjoyment. And also, as stated above, you're pretty much forced to play it in the career mode. Although the battles in the career are more fun - you actually trade parts off... you can't just glance on the other side when you get Amp Overload'ed :D

Also, am I the only person in the world who likes the singer's look? I think he's hilarious, looks like a Muppet.

Yes he does. But I don't think that's a compliment. Try telling your girlfriend she looks like a muppet.

I play the guitar too, and last I remember, POWER CHORDS don't switch shapes around randomly. A lot of the "harder" songs involve a fair lot of them, and yet they always move around weirdly. On an actual guitar, it's just a finger shape moving around, and in GH3 it turns into Pretzel Fingering (don't get any weird ideas here).

That's what turned me off. Especially the "boss" battles that you have to play to advance. It's a music game, let me play music. If I want boss battles, I'll play an RPG. And the character design I was never a big fan of, but it's absolutely atrocious in GHIII.

Yes, I agree that boss battles are a problem, but that's very different from battle mode, which is a multiplayer-only affair. Thank God you can skip the Tom Morello and Slash battles, so at least you don't have to beat them to unlock all the songs (except TTFaF).

"Yes he does. But I don't think that's a compliment. Try telling your girlfriend she looks like a muppet."

Well, I'm not dating the singer, so no problem. ;) I dunno, I consider it a compliment because he makes me laugh. We can all agree that the drummer sucks major ass, and is the result of sheer laziness, though.

If you are talking about note charts for GH3... Yes I do play real guitar. No the note charts do not make sense. You will be playing notes but ABSOLUTELY NO SOUND COMING OUT OF THE NOTES (or in-game guitar). I'm pretty sure when you press down on a fret and strum on a [real] guitar sound comes out of it. Its just random button mashing for absolutely no reason. Some of the note charts are O.K. though (One). OK, I'm done :D

Alright you got me there, thats why i mentioned how i hate the 3 button chords, and now that i think about it... alot of the chords arent realistic, except for the slayer song which is very realistic.... one is realistic up to the part before the solo with the 3 button chords....

and TTFATF is very unrealistic where the 3 button chords are a hand a part..one in green one in yellow and one in orange.... then again if you think about it it isnt a real guitar...Its a game... and a game that requires skill... and if you can hit those pretzel chords as you mentioned you have some skill lol! its just a game all take it easy on the realism part.

Edit: oh and also ....hehe if you play all the green notes at the beginning of TTFATF you can pretty much hear the whole beginning off those green notes haha

Yeah, I know how to play it. For instance in the a few parts you strum twice as many times as you do on actual guitar. My number one complaint though is the solo. Its waaaaaay off - its waaaaaay too hard.
