View Full Version : I have one complaint about Rock Bands note chart design.

The notes are to small like they're see able and everything up close, but I feel like they're a little small I wish they would have been a bit bigger. Also the frame that holds the notes are a little to transparent as well. Not really the biggest complaint in the world, but I really just wish the notes were like double the size they are now or 1 and a half. Anyone else agree with me on that?

I think that too much bigger and you'd be sacrificing screen space that needs to be used for mulitiplayer...

Any bigger and I think you'd be wasting screen space that you need for multiplayer.

Edit:
I am sooo damn sorry for the multiple posts. My computer is being really ****.

I wondered about it but I doubt its a real issue... Harmonix wouldn't have kept it that way if it was. Also, with 4 players simultaneously on screen at once its probably best to keep it small to keep everything at a minimum to run smoothly.

I think it will be fine on my 37 inch lcd. It was hard to see at the BB demos because they were on what 20 16x9 lcds?

57" 1080i DLP w/ 5.1 surround sound, so I should be able to see things pretty well :)

Yea the tvs they put it on at best buy are a joke, they should hook it up to one of 1000 big tvs they have there

At my BB they had the demo on a 72" 1080p (I forget the brand). It looked fantastic. I actually like the thinner notes. After playing GH3 and the insanely long time you have to hit a note within, it will be good to go back to thinner notes to hit.

Hopefully this is indeed the problem, the screen was mighty small at BB. I have 27" HDLCD so I guess should be fine then.

I'd play in 720p if I were you. 1080i doesn't go too well with rhythm games... however, I suppose you could calibrate lag. Still, I'd have it in progressive no matter what.

Playing on a Pioneer 43" Plasma here. I'm ready for some major (temporary) burns.

But I've always wondered about one thing: how will the game play on 4:3 displays? all we've ever seen of the game is on 16:9 widescreen displays. Will they letterbox it, or will they squish all the 'fretboards'? I think either way people with non-widescreen displays will suffer when it comes to multiplayer.

Just in case you wanted a second confirmation on this, 720p is better than 1080i for high movement video. (The reason, which I'll do the math for you if you'd like, has to do with the update speed and the new pixels refreshed per update. Progressive scan updates every pixel each refresh, interlaced does every other.) Of note the reverse is also true, 1080i looks nicer for menus, text, and other mostly static items.

That's our set-up too, exactly. And based on what I saw at the tour with even smaller screens, it is going to be a beautiful experience. :)

I'll definitely switch the settings to 720p - thanks for the advice! :)

(as for the math - it's the weekend, no thinking allowed)

Look at the old IGN videos. Their first video was on a 4:3 ancient CRT TV, and it looked fine. My Best Buy also had a small 4:3 TV and we fit 4 people on with no problems.

while i was playing the game, at a point i thought "wait, there arent any hammer ons" and thought out loud apparently, love EA lady pointed out to me the smaller notes were HOPOs, its not as clear damnit! maybe after playing for more then a few hours itll be clearer then the come up, just being smaller doesnt cut it either way tbh, should be brighter, or rimmer, or flat, i dno, smaller?!

After playing with 4 players on the same screen, I will agree that the HO/POs get hard to see. You can still tell by looking if the note touches the vertical lines on the board, but it still could be more apparent. I still think it's a better method than black rim/no black rim.

I have a Sony 27 4:3 with 5.1 surround sound. One question though. It's good quality (but from 1987.) And only supports 480i. Will that be a problem when seeing the notes. (resistance and oblivion on PS3 look fine on it.)
