Watch the Gameplay Video 1 on RockBand.com, and towards the end when they hit the 940k mark approximately you will see that they earn the gold stars. Now in Guitar Hero, in order to get gold stars you had to hit 100% of the notes. In Rock Band it looks like there's a certain score you need to attain in order to get gold stars as opposed to 100%'ing the entire song. Is this how it's supposed to work in Rock Band or is this an error?

Yeah that would make sense. The requirement of having all 4 people FC the song is pretty brutal. I'd imagine it'd still be a FC in solo play though.

Not as brutal as the beatings the guy who missed that one note at the end would get... :p

Well if you notice in that video they do FC the song, no one misses a note or anything (but the gold stars do happen before the song ends). But most likely since it is really hard to get everyone to perfect a song, there is probably a minimum gold star score, that probably requires near perfection to get, but not 100%.

I'm sure in single player you need to 100% the song to get gold stars.

actually when i played dani california yesterday i got 98% or 99% and got gold stars (its because of the extra points i got from the solo)
