I thought this would be a cool thread here after afterstasis posted the idea for a thread here.
Simple Rules
1.Comment on video above from the previous poster, give a little bit of thought when you put down the comment.
2.After your comment put of one video for the next poster to comment on.
I'll start by posting this...

Haven't heard many Italian bands before. The synthesizers reminded me a bit of Rush. Pretty cool composition. Really did well in changing the flow in some sections quickly, yet smoothly. I love the drum solo towards the end. You never see too many of them, unfortunately.
I love the look of that Violin, too, haha.

That song reminded me of Nine Inch Nails songs. It's that good. I wouldn't be surprised if Trent Reznor covers it if he ever hears it!
I posted a topic like this a few days ago but nobody went for it. It was "Songs you're annoyed that nobody knows about" And, last time I checked, it had 0 replies.
So here is one of my favorites by Ted Mulry Gang.. Heart Of Stone.

Cool song, they remind me of the eagles. Cool rythym guitar sound, the duo lead part in the solo reminds me of something from Hotel California.
Song from Phil Collins genesis, I put this one because msot people hate the Phil Collins era, but this song is just as good as the Gabriel era

And Ill do mine on the last two vids:
Stone roses: I really like these guys, there debut album should be on RB. Kinda pissed GH is getting Love Spreads. ANyways this song is really good live, and the jam is awesome.
Talk Talk - wierd song, very world music sounding. Guitar is good, though the song is odd, its mellow, but has an odd tone to it, so tis nothing that can pump someone up, but its nothing to listen to when relaxing.

The Genesis song is interesting, it sounds like a combination of a Beatles song with a bit of hinting and prelude to Collins' solo work.
And How Soon Is Now is fricken classic, I love the delay that Johnny uses for the main riff, I'd love to see this song in either RB or GH (though repetition may get in the way despite how awesome the 6-minute version is, though I think The Queen Is Dead would also be an awesome band song as well.)
Then the song Hungryfreak posted was very intense, seriously those drums would be insane and crazy in RB or GH.

Yeah it's a Japanese Rock Band, though at the time that song was recorded their sound was very akin to Oasis and Brit-pop so if you're familiar with Oasis' song "She's Electric" you'll get where they're coming from.
And wow that's actually one of my fave GNR songs, glad to see other people like it too.

EDIT: this is in response to buster.
though i thought the pillows song you posted earlier was alright, i can't get into this one at all. for one, i really don't like the vocals. i like lots of japanese singers, but not this one. it feels like it's missing something in the instrumenation department as well.
overall, it kinda felt like a poor attempt at replicating radiohead's "street spirit" for me.
EDIT reply to rockbandfan: i couldn't get into this song. it's mostly the vocals. the instrumentation doesn't offend, but doesn't take me anywhere.

^The song you posted reminded me a lot of Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth with maybe a smidge of My Bloody Valentine due to the distortion and progression of the song and rather detached vocals. Great stuff.
And it's understandable with L'Arc~en~Ciel (their music is mainly geared towards the pop-rock side and rarely do something that is that dynamic and not a ballad) and also it's because that they are a pop-rock band that their singer generally tries being very grandiose with his singing. Though I never really would have thought of looking at the song as a form of Street Spirit so grats on seeing that connection.

So is the video the actual music video Devo choose or what? Interesting. I love the upbeat tone of everything from the vocals to the keyboards. The light-heartened wholesome narrative of the instrumentals takes a dark turn there midway with the "FOR YOU". I liked it, especially with the pictures to associate with the music itself. I also like that, in spite of this, the melody and rhythm still keep their comical upbeat feel, relentlessly, to the very end of the song, despite the deceptive lyrical content.

Yeah it is the official video. I find it amazing how the entire complexion of the song is morphed by the addition of two simple words. Its incredible how the song can mean the complete opposite of what you were thinking when he throws the "For You" in there.

it would be cool if people wrote more than one generic line about other people's videos. this thread, thus far, is probably actually generating less actual discussion than the polls that everyone was complaining about...
i thought about making a thread specifically for people who are going to put a little more effort into their posts, but it would be great if we could just maybe turn this one around a bit...
i really dug this song, gargoyle. i'm a big fan of 80's synthpop and this is quality stuff. i'm not sure i've ever heard it before, though it's one of those songs that halfway through it already feels somewhat familiar.
the guy's voice sounds a bit weak at times, but i think that actually has a tendency to improve songs like this. i think it brings that extra touch of humanity to a synthesizer-heavy style.

it might be a good idea to post some simple rules in the first post, jukeboxhero...
i really like rush's "hemisphere" album, though this song has always bugged me a bit. i really enjoy the beginning, but as the song gets more tense towards the end i can't help but begin to lose interest... i'm definitely all for long instrumentals, but this one fails to really hold my attention all the way through.
as for this specific live version, the intro is my favorite part due to the "dreamy" sound they achieved. i would have loved for them to have followed that theme more closely.

For once I get a chance to post right after you do. We seem to have similar tastes from what I can see (feeling lonely amongst the metalheads :-)). Unfortunatly this last one didn't really cut it for me. The melodic voice is attrocious, but hat's minor. To me the main "singer" has way too much of an american rapper style, and it just bugs me for the duration of the song. I really like the dirty backbeat atmosphere though, even if it didn't hook me enough for a second listen.

Not bad, not bad. Doesnt particularly grab me by the balls too much but it interests me enough. The main riffs are very stale to me. The harmonized, yet aggressive vocals are great and carry the melody while the riffs just chug. The solo was good and the drumming was pretty adequate. I give it a B... maybe B-. Very nice!

A fun little tune, reminiscent of some of the hair metal. Definitely a surprise, seeing as it's Michael Bolton. I do like his voice on this song. There was even a fun little guitar solo, though I found it undermined by being layered below the main riff. Some bands can pull that off well (check out some of the solos on Sleep's Holy Mountain), but it didn't work here, in my opinion. And, a fadeout... Almost expected, but still disappointing. It was an okay song.

I think the only thing I wasn't too crazy about were the vocals. To me, it sounded like the singer was trying too hard to give the song an epic feel, even though the instruments and the lyrics were definately expansive enough. The instrumentation was top-notch, and I think the synthesizer/keyboard intro was my favorite part, musically speaking. The intro reminded me of something I'd hear from a good j-pop song.

Hmmm, this is going to sound worst than what I actually think of it...
Alright first I find the core of the song interesting and full of potential. The guys is obviously talented.
I did find the melody to be way too poppy, or kiddish, and the lyrics need some serious work. That's very subjective of course. What I think is completly off with the song is how much it's over-produced. It sounds way too polished, and the repetitiveness of the song combined with the "epic" sound attempt is just anti-climatic, but in a bad way.
I wish it was grittier, with more dirty piano and less artifacts.
Now here comes 10 minutes of acquired taste. I give you the Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat. I dare you to listen to it 3 times before passing judgement.

I only listened to it once, because I didn't need to acquire the taste. I loved the song for all of its quirky goodness. I'm usually not a fan of female vocals (I don't know, I just don't like how they sound for the most part. Don't murder me) but they worked perfectly in this song. They managed to be weird without being too gimmicky or anything. The sound varied enough to keep interest and they even managed to work some of the very abrupt changes well. I might actually look into this band out further.

The harmornies worked, the guitar solo was good, but the way her voice inflected didn't work for me. IMO, she overemphasized alot of the vocal bends to try to emulate the country sound in the original (which I listened to for comparison and found much better than this version), but in the end it just sounded like she had one too many drinks before singing. This gets better after the guitar solo, and it sounds like she probably is a good singer, but overall I didn't feel the song.

OK. I'm not a huge fan of it, but there's something there.

What are you trying to get a dislike comment on this. I'm rather indifferent on it. The music is very good and simple, the lyrics are catchy. It is a good song, it just isn't something I'd rush to put on my ipod.
This is something I made, if some would be kind enough to listen

It isn't as great as some of his other stuff, but it's still Hendrix, and still fairly good.

I really didn't like it. The vocals annoyed me, and it was repetitive.

^I listened to this one a couple times: the first time, I thought it was kind of bland, but the vocals are enough of a hook that on second listen I enjoyed it.
