Those last two predate Britpop, but some other lists did that too. Motorhead isn't NWOBH, for example.

Motorhead is often associated with the NWOBHM movement. If you're going to say Motorhead was around too early, then you have to remove Judas Priest, too.

^Hey schizoid, Ive been listening to some Marillion and was just wondering. What exactly is Neo Prog?
Neo-progressive rock (or often shortened to neo-prog, not to be confused with the significantly more modern New prog) is a sub-genre of progressive rock, developed and popular in the 1980s, although it lives on today.
Neo-progressive rock is characterized by deeply emotional content, often delivered via dramatic lyrics and a generous use of imagery and theatricality on-stage. The music is mostly the product of careful composition, relying less heavily on improvised jamming. The subgenre relies very much on clean, melodic & emotional electric guitar solos, combined with modern, lush, floating and atmospheric keyboards. The main musical influences on the neo-prog genre are Genesis, Yes, Camel, Toto and Pink Floyd [1].
Early neo-prog was marked by sophisticated lyrics and often dark themes. While the accessibility of neo-prog by the mainstream is debatable, the form did generally seem more radio-friendly, with shorter tracks, than earlier progressive rock.
short version - prog rock without the long, long, long songs, and generally later prog (late 70s, 80s)

Reginal identity has nothing to do with genres. Unless it's folk music.

CCR isnt southern rock, they are rockabilly (aka the roots of rock sound) [hell CCR doesnt even have a southern rock sound) and the Outlaws are Lynyrd Skynyrd's brother basically (since it was them who kept opening for skynyrd and skynyrd got them signed)

A young band from San Francisco, Creedence Clearwater Revival, became one of the best-selling rock groups of the era playing old rockabilly songs and new songs written in the same style.

it's short for "technical death metal". it's just easier to say "tech death".
and for the above post, i think you should switch out the cheetah girls with nickelback and i agree :)

Besides the fact that they sound completely different? There is influence from everything from progressive rock guitar styles to jazz fusion drumming to classical music.

because tech death is focused mainly around complex guitar/drum work, as opposed to the other subgenres such as melodic death metal.

I'm not a metal aficionado by any stretch of the term (outside of the more mainstream acts such as Metallica, Megadeth, etc) so things about these Death metal sub-genres aren't quite so obvious to me.

The vast majority of casual music listeners lump all genres by vocal style (rap, rock, country, whatever), unfortunately. There are other "voices" in a song including the guitars, drums, the bass, focus on melody, focus on rhythm (groove), addition of keyboards, etc...
Sub-genres are stupidly intricate sometimes so I understand where its like "lolwut". But I use them as a guide for me to find more bands I like.

I dunno if I'd lump myself in with the casual listeners, but I do find myself dividing genres based on vocals. But yeah, a lot of times when I talk to my metalhead buddies I do end up in an "lolwut" about 90% of the time.

Tech death is also one of those things that only older doods listen to unless you are young and are really into playing real instruments. It mostly came from the early 90's and naturally received no mainstream support.
Even some of my most metal teenage buds who are kind of on the bridge between mainstream metal (Disturbed, Slipknot, In Flames, KSE, etc) and getting into the good meat of metal (Opeth, Death, Carcass, Necrophagist) are barely starting to learn about tech death attitude and style.

And how many people at your school or in your local music scene are similiar?
I think most young metalheads hit the nu-metal, metalcore, and classic metal first. Some get into the 80's thrash, death, and maybe even black metal but I think we are talking about less than 5% of the teenage metal listening base. But this is just my area, every area is different I suppose.
