View Full Version : PS360 Owners: Which version are you buying?

I live and game in Japan. I own Japanese versions of the Xbox 360 and PS3. I love both of my consoles, and that's causing my current dilemma: which version of Rock Band do I buy? I've pre-ordered both versions from Amazon, and I'll keep one and return the other (going home for Christmas, which is when I'll do it).
I'm leaning towards the 360 version just because I don't think I can find people to play with in my small village in Japan -- so I imagine I'll lean heavily on the online play. I don't know anyone specifically who is planning on buying it, so I'll be relying on a large web community.
But for the PS3, it's guaranteed region-free goodness, and let's face it: my PS3 doesn't get that much love. It would be nice to keep Call of Duty in my 360 and Rock band in my PS3.
If the game is region-locked on the 360, there won't even be a decision. But as we don't know yet, I can't help but wonder. Even if I get it for the 360, there's no guarantee that I'll find people to play with over Live (playing The Orange Box, I sometimes have a hard time finding a match, or people who are willing to talk).
What version will you be buying? What are you reasons? I'm curious if anyone can sway me one way or the other.

I'm in Japan too, and I would say go with the PS3 version. Because I doubt the 360 is going to be region free. Although according to play-asia Rock Band is being released in Japan. So who knows.
Just curious, where in Japan do you live? And are you paying to have it shipped here?

Yeah, go the PS3.
Being in Japan there will also be a higher number of people playing Rock Band online with the PS3 than the xbox.

There are already loads of threads like this, but anyway:
I have both consoles, but preordered the PS3 version, since I wanted to be sure that it works. Besides, it's nice to have wireless instruments.

I doubt that being in Japan will necessarily mean more people playing RB online here. Plus, both the PSN and Live are global, so where they are shouldn't really matter, right? I read on MTV that they're using "trickery" to make you *feel* like you're playing with the other people, so isn't exactly like an online FPS where everything is done in real time. That trickery should mean there's no lag whatsoever.
@Coldplayer: I'm going to be making my decision after we find out if it's region free or not -- I'm pre-ordering both from Amazon. That'll mean that I can make my decision and either return the other one (for store credit) at whatever retailer is most convenient, or sell it on ebay for some ridiculous markup. So assume you could choose NOT based on region status?
@JimNasium: Correct me if I'm wrong, but Play-Asia doesn't say that a version is being released here, but that there will be an "Asian" release (with a little Chinese flag). That bodes well for a region-free deal (like Call of Duty, Halo, etc). If the 360 is region free, I'm going to have a really tough decision on my hands.
I live on Shikoku, in Tokushima. I am going home for Christmas, so I'm having Amazon deliver to my US address (for free), and then when I make my decision, I'll be sending it to my Japanese address -- probably using International Priority (6-10 days), which the USPS website says ought to cost me about $90. Worth it, in my opinion. Worst part will be waiting til I get home (in Japan) to play it.

360 for me. I just love Xbox Live navigation, 1080p output, achievements, and all my friends are on it.

I live in the US and I'm getting the PS3 60gig just to play RB and some other games such as the Lego Star Wars Complete Saga :) My main idea was that I have a lot of PS2 games and some of them I haven't finish playing them. In the recent months I'm seeing the PS3 getting more attention from gamers and better games. Also, the PS3 exclusives MGS4 and GOW3 are making stick with my decision. Those two games are really the type of games I really like.

Yeah, you might be right about that. The 360 version says "NTSC-J", but from what I understand that's the region coding in China too, so who knows  I've checked the local store here, and it's not listed anywhere. I mailed Harmonix too, but no response yet.
Ahh, Tokushima. Isn't it funny to live in a country where a city with over 250,000 is considered a small village?

I pre-ordered the 360 version.
1) It's clear from everything I've read that it was developed on the 360 and ported to PS3.
2) I'll be playing online with a friend (who also has both consoles), and XBox Live is better experience overall, today. We agreed to both get that version.
3) I was sorely disappointed to learn that "wireless guitar" actually means a USB dongle and not Bluetooth. Why'd they do that?!?*

* I know why they did it--so that the same guitar could be used on PS2 and PS3. But I don't have to like it!

I am getting it for the 360... because most of my friends have a 360. And because I'm an achievement whore. Yeah yeah they don't mean anything... but even still it's nice to have other goals to meet within a game. Gives me something to strive for.

PS3.
Because two of my friends have the system.
And it's the only system I own.

I have both and I'm getting it for the PS3.
Reasoning being that Harmonix has apparently done a great job and both versions (again apparently) work just as good as each other. DLC is going to be the same for both, and guitars being wireless or not isn't too much of a big deal. The deciding factor: my bro, and a couple friends getting this as well have PS3s instead of X360s.
Thats it :)

360 only because all my friends have a 360.
If not for them, I'd get it for PS3 easily. The last thing I want is my 360 failing when I want to play Rock Band. And I wanted wireless. It's a LAUNCH 360 too. Yeah.

That's why I bought a back up... in case anything goes wrong I will at least have one while the other one gets repaired.

I'm getting the 360 version too, though I'm very confident in my LAUNCH Xbox 360.
My friend spilled koolaid on it, and it got the 3 red lights of doom... then it started working again.
We are one loving couple, my 360 and I.

Zechman though I'm getting the 360 version as well, the PS3 version is bluetooth. Only the 360 has a USB hub and thats because all the peripherals are wired and there isn't enough USB ports on the 360 for 4 instruments. I think you're mixing up Guitar Hero 3's guitar with Rock Band's.

Nope, there is a dongle for Rock Band. The guitar IS NOT bluetooth.

Are you serious?! I thought just the 360 version had a USB hub, but there's a USB dongle for the PS3 for the guitar? You HAVE GOT to be kidding me... now I'm incredibly worried about the lag for guitar users since all the uproars of GH3 on PS3.

Well the 360 version is the only one that has a USB hub. The PS3 (60 and 80 GB, anyway) has 4 USB slots, 4 USB instruments. It fits if you don't need to have anything else plugged in.
And no I'm not kidding. I was able to mess around with the calibration on GH3 and have it just fine now.
Rock Band has a lag calibration and an A/V calibration. So since they knew they weren't going to use Bluetooth they are trying to go over and beyond to make sure that it isn't a problem.

Yeah I know I worded weirdly the hub and dongle. That's disappointing its not true bluetooth I almost wish it was wired for PS3 users, at least for me if I was getting the PS3 version I'd want wired over that.

I'm getting the 360 version. Mainly because the PS3 version has the dongle exactly like Guitar Hero 3 and people seemed to be having a lot of trouble with that (last time I looked anyway). I already have it pre-ordered anyway (GameStop) and they stopped taking pre-orders now.

I'm getting the PS3 version. I hated my 360 and sold it awhile back. I don't think it's a bad console, I just didn't like the game selection (I'm not a big FPS person),

It's lose/lose for PS3 in this thread. If it was BT we wouldn't hear the end of how that might cause lag problems, and since it has a dongle, that apparently makes it less wireless than BT. Makes no sense. I'll enjoy not being tethered to my console (even though RB includes very long wires for the 360 Strat, which is nice), but let's not act like the dongle is a deal breaker.
Also, for the GH3 lag, is there a chance that that's also related to the detachable neck, and not necessarily the dongle? If not, as mentioned below (or above), RB has an A/V calibration, which would solve any potential problem (GH3 lacks this).
In addition, I'm not sure if RB was developed on the 360, and ported to PS3 (it likely was, but I've never read anything official on that), but after playing both demo versions, I'm not concerned (Wal-Mart is using the PS3 version, BB uses the 360 one). Granted, the final product could vary, but I doubt it.

I'd rather have a dongle and wireless than an ugly HUB that plugs into the wall

I have the 360 version and haven't had one instance of lag whatsoever, so I'd say not at all. The 360 guitar has its own Wi-fi channel which wirelessly is the best, however most expensive. Wireless bluetooth isn't as good, but its definitely better than that dongle.

I just mean 0% lag through wired in my opinion is better than any looks or configurations. Performance over preference in the end is what matters.

Who said there's going to be lag in the first place? That's the reason for the dongle. Harmonix didn't want any issues with Bluetooth without looking into it first.
I rest my case.

I suppose it is worthless arguing until we all find out hands on whether or not the dongle does lag or not similar to GH3. Until then, good luck.

I live in South Carolina, USA and i'm getting the PS3 version. Wireless guitar + no need to use a usb hub (which is just one more thing to break down and can cause some signal delay if its not a quality unit) are the main features for me on getting the PS3 version.
Online for PS3 may be not as popular as XBL but i plan on playing 4 player multiplayer on one system so it won't bother me so much.
The only thing i worry about is how stable the online multiplayer on PS3 will be, GH3 online multiplayer is horribly unstable and that has me worried. I know that is a totally different company and game but still it worries me.

360. Why?
Wired > wireless (*****ing about a hub is fùcking sad)
XBL > PSN (PSN crashes for me)
I have an X-Plorer
Everyone else is doing it
Plus I love my 360 and it deserves the best.

I own both and the main reason I'm getting it for the 360 instead of my PS3 is because I already have the X-Plorer for the 360 and I wouldn't have any extra guitar for the PS3.

What's a PS360?
It's kinda like a Wii60; a combination of two consoles. A PS360 owner is someone who owns both consoles. Personally, I'm a PSWii60 owner, as I have all three of the "next-gen" consoles. (Isn't it clever how the Wii/3 overlaps? I know, it's not THAT cool, but that's what people are doing these days)

What's a PS360?
About 7 months ago it was discovered Sony and Microsoft had teamed up to combine the PS3 and 360 into one machine. 2,000 units were leaked and sold. Sony and Microsoft quickly terminated the process.
And Santa Claus is real.
Okay, okay, seriously it just means you own a 360 and a PS3.

I'm getting it for the PS3. Wireless and I already have an extra guitar for bass (the Les Paul). And I haven't had any problems with lagging from the dongle, but when I was playing with my friend on his 360 there was lag. Plus, more HDD space for DLC and free online play (even though I'm going to have my band over here basically every weekend).
