So I finally made it down to Best Buy to give Rock Band a go. I had my 5 yr old son with me, so I knew I wasn't going to get a lot of time with the game, but he jumped on drums and I grabbed the guitar.
The entire time I had people walking behind us and standing next to us murmering about that's the game their son, brother, friend was talking about, so the word is definately on the street in Salt Lake City. This is a good thing.
So I grabbed the guitar and the first thing I noticed was the timing in the notes or the force of the required strum was different. After failing out a song I got the hang of it. Either the guitar had alot of abuse or the strum required more follow through than my xplorer at home. My son, being 5 and never playing drums failed us out many times before I switched. The guitar felt good to me, more natural than the xplorer thats for sure.
The drums...aah I fell inlove with this immidiately. My biggest complaint, though it made perfect sence, with guitar hero 2 was that the rythum seemed off on alot of songs. With the drums it was all rythum, and my inner soul mak came out with the beats lol. It was nice, a bit disorienting having never tried drums of any kind ever, save my hands on a desk or steering wheel thumping to tunes, so it took a bit getting used to the beats but they came, and I had a blast! What I liked, which could also be attributed to demo wear and tear, but I hope is indicative of the final product, was that it required you to play like you meant it. Hitting ht epad with force, not hammering it, but no tapping allowed, which put you in teh drummers seat, so to speak, even more realistically..
All in all, aside from the stinky stoners playing GH3 next to me, it was a great experience my son and I are more excited than ever to play our copy on the 20th, and I hope you all get a chance to check it out...

That's great! I wish my family would jam with me in Rock Band...
I'll most likely have to adjust to the guitar for a few days being prone to GH3s more forgiving timing. I keep hearing that everyone is falling in love with these drums on first encounter everywhere, I can't wait to try them out for the first time!

Sounds awesome !...... I've yet to hear really one negative thing about the drums, sounds like Harmonix has done an awesome job with them.

i played with my little brother and he thinks he is better than he actually is. when i played bass on epic, he played drums on medium and sucked it up. i played tom sawyer on drums on medium. i was pretty hard. if the bass pedal was there, i probably would have failed. the only reason i kept missing notes is that medium skips drum beats, so i lost my rhythm

Yeah, the drums feel really great and even when little boys and stupid teens bang on them or go Keith Moon on them, they still felt sturdy.

the drums are sturdy. my little bro banged em so loud i couldn't hear the song. i had to tell them it just takes a light touch for them to register.
