How could there be free play on the guitar? it would only have 5 notes (actually it could have 120 notes but that would include up to 5 button combinations).
Somehow, don't think this will happen.

if you want real band mode, learn to play a real instrument. i know its daunting at first, but seriously, pick the guitar up. If you keep at it and get lessons, most dedicated people are real good after only one year.

Been suggested umpteen times before and discussed umpteen times before.
It would never work and one always has to ask the question - why? I mean, if you have the encouragement and effort to try and make your own songs on a game, I see no reason not to do it in real life.
Games are games and will never be real life simulators, otherwise they would be no fun at all.

If that happened with I would finally agree with the haters who are always saying "pick up a real guitar"!

u said it ur self- 120 combinations for the guitar. This would be cheaper than a real band/instruments. Easier. Ever go play karaoke with friends? TADA same idea. u guys think this but it is a game. we dont want to learn guitar, take lessons. there is no point. were not gonna go big or anything.

Except in a real band, one person isnt buying everything, and the price is determined by how much youre willing to spend on the instruments. You can get a fairly decent beginner's guitar for around £100 (dont know how much in america, but it cant be more than that.) like a Squier Strat or something.
Who said you need lessons? I mean, it helps to have 10 or so to get you going, but you can easily teach yourself, especially with all the sites online.
Case in point, this is a game, generally designed to get you interested in music and maybe start learning an instrument and maybe form a band. Not everyone will react this way to it, most people will just play it for what it is - a game. However, some people may be inspired to take it further.
Having a song-creation mode on it seems a bit in between the two - its not going to interest people who are just there to play a game (as Im sure it will take hours to make anything remotely good) and it wont interest the more ambitious people as they can simply make something better quicker and more easily in real life.
In other words, I dont see it as a good idea, probably be very hard to implement and in the end very pointless. (unless the idea of staring at screens of notes and adjusting them over and over seems fun to you).

The only way freeplay on guitar would work is if they had a good ammount of guitar clips you could add, and then add your own notes. If they set it up like the Apple program "Garage Band" and then let you add your own notes, without being able to send your custom song to a friend or exporting it to a MP3 they should be fine.

this is rediculous. Rock Band is a video game. ok ?
this is not a substitute for real life. Im excited for this game, because i can jam with my friends and g/f who dont play instruments, and it'll be a blast. But this idea is just stupid.
Those who say "whats the point" to picking up a real guitar must of never accomplished anything in your life, or your priorities are out of whack. You dont do something to get famous or go big, you do it for yourself, for your own personal enjoyment.
And there is nothing more satisfying to learning, not only to IMMITATE music as this game will have you do, but to learn the absolute endless amount of creativity that can come from a real instrument.
every day i play is worthwhile.

Quoted for truth.
After a year of guitar your band/barmitzvah worthy. Stick with it and...damn.
I'm not arguing just a fact. I have always supported this idea.
