I've been thinking about the concept behind Rock Band for a while, because it reminded me very much of another game from way back when, but whose name I couldn't remember for the life of me. Well, today I finally managed to scrounge up the title:

(Yeah, very 80's, I know)

(Your boss ain't exactly an "I'm ok, you're ok" kinda guy)

Basically, I was wondering if anyone else remembers this old gem? For those who don't know or remember it (or are too young to have known about it) the gameplay concept is basically this: You start off with some money, which you use to put together a band and manage it, picking which venues to play and so on, doing your best to earn money and win over new fans in the hopes of ultimately achieving Rock Stardom. Sound familiar?

Of course, it goes without saying that Rock Band's going to be a lot more fun, seeing as how you'll actually be playing the gigs, instead of just (mis)managing your band and crossing your fingers. The two aren't exactly the same, but the underlying concept is undeniably very similar, only taken much, much further than was ever possible in the past.

So, in a sense, old is new again. Isn't technology great? :]

There is a similr game that came out earlier this year called Shady O'Gradys Rising Star. It's kind of cool, cept you don't actually play any music, you just simulate what it's like to be in a band. Check it out here
