Does anyone know if it is possible to paint the Rock Band Fender Stratocaster? I want it to match my Fender Stratocaster Squier. If it helps, here is what it looks like: http://www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0321700592

Mmm. That's what I have heard, but only one way to find out!
Hehe, maybe I should test my mad painting skillz on the Xplorer first!

Yes, you can do this. I havent yet done any painting to my guitars and possibly wont, but being an artist I know the steps required.
1. Dismember your guitar CAREFULLY. Taking pictures of where parts go for reassembling later is helpful.
2. Take each guitar head plate and using the finest grit sand paper you can find (get one of those sander bars you can attach a piece of paper to) and dip the sand paper in soapy water and just sand off the glossy paint layer.
3. You will want to get a spray primer and spray each plate once they have been dried and cleaned off from sanding.
4. After primering each plate you will then decide on what color you want...for that wood grain look...you might need to brush paint the guitar by hand which is much harder. I am not sure on how to achieve it using spray paint unless you are uber good at airbrushing.
5. If you go with just a regular color spray paint. You will want to just evenly spray each plate from a distance of 1 foot to get that nice even coat. Let dry and apply a second or third coat.
6. I would recommend finding a glossy clear coat to spray over the paint just for extra protection.
*the kind of paint you will want is either an automobile paint (I suggest from House of Kolor) or a durable plastic paint. You want to find something that will last and not cause you to have to respray it every weekend.

I recently painted my xplorer.
I took it apart, everything. all I had was the body and sanded it all down. I used Kyrlon paint on it after sanding and it's fine. Didn't even use clear coat (you'll really want to use that so it'll last longer). Some of it's been chipped off because I don't have the clear coat but if you add clear coat you'll be fine.
After I get a wireless strat i'll end up painting the wired one.

Thanks for the help! I hope I can get around to it before November 20th.. I can get my friend to help me out as well, which would be cool. Again, thank you very much for all of your replies!

When I painted my SG, I used Krylon spray paint. It's pretty cheap, you can find it everywhere, and it works well. I didn't even strip the original colors out, and the guitar took the paint. No sticky left. I'm a total amatuer at using my hands for anything, so if I can do it you can do it.

Oo.. I'll looking into that. I don't want to have the original paint stripped off because I'm really, really worried that something might happen that ruins the guitar itself... Intriguing!

I want to see some guitars painted with House of Kolor car paint. It would be awesome to see some candy coats on some guitars, or some metal flakes.
