Try doing the towel trick right before you get Rock Band. That'll revitalize your 360 for another week or two which means you'd be able to get plenty of Rock Band in and then send it in for repairs.

That sucks! I'm praying this doesn't happen to me right when I come home to play Rock Band... just happened to one of my friends with COD4. I do have the Best Buy 2 year warranty still though so I'd just have to go down sometime later that week... but still...

If mine dies, i'm trading it in and paying the difference for an arcade system. They supposedly come with better heatsinks and a radiator below the memory card slots because thats where the gpu is.

sorry to hear that. To tell you the truth i'm considering not using my xbox until RB comes out to avoid having it break down.

My Xbox didn't give me the ring of death, but three days ago I tried putting a disc in and instead of reading "Guitar Hero III" on the dashboard it said "Unreadable Disc". And it said that for every other disc I tried. So I can't play any discs on my 360 right now. So it's useless :( Fortunately, my dorm has a lot of really cool guys on the floor and they're pumped for the game too, so I'm gonna stick my hard drive on someone else's 360 while mine goes in for repairs. So yea this sucks, I never had one single problem with my 360 before this. It ran relatively quiet, seemed alright, I never mishandled it ever. Hell, I didn't touch it from the night before until the time it stopped reading discs. Lame, microsoft, lame. I respect you're gonna repair it for me but four weeks is ultra ***

Mine developed the "unreadable disk" problem and I sent it in the beginning of Oct. It's still in the shop and I can't get any info on when it will be done beyond being told to call back in 24-48 hrs the last 3 times I called. This was an Elite I bought last May. While I like the system and it's games, I am losing faith in it, and MS quickly.

QFT. These kinds of problems are very stoppable, Microsoft really needs to step it up.

Demand is really too high right now to effectively fix the problem without hurting pruduction. Adding on two new SKUs doesn't help either. :rolleyes:

my friend really wants to buy RB, but he's been through two 360s and is currently waiting for Microsoft to send him a box to get his newest one fixed. He's been waiting on that box for a while too, as there was a shipping problem the first time they tried to send it. He'll just have to wait for me to bring my bundle over to his house for a little redemption. I'm so glad I decided on a PS3.

Sorry to hear man =\ that sucks, I would just get RB and wait for MS to send my system back. That way I won't have to worry about getting RB. Anyways, hope the next one lasts ya man.

Oh I am not cancelling my preorder. I don't give a f***. RB can sit in the middle of the room and not do anything but I will still have it...and when I do get my box back it will be like xmas...
Regardless I have a couple of friends with xbox's who aren't getting RB (because of the price) but want to play it, so my weekends will be full anyway :)
What is this towel trick you speak of?

Incase you guys want a little laugh here's an update on my 360 repair status. I called tonight to try and find out if they had any info. Again I was told there was no info, so after over 4 weeks time, and being told to call back in 2 days 3 times now, I asked to speak to a manager. Finally after being on hold for about 10 minutes I get the manager and she tells me that my system is an elite ( thanks I didn't know that). She goes on to say that they don't repair elites, they replace them. However they don't have any units available and aren't sure when they will. I get a call back in 2 weeks, thanks for calling MS have a goodnight and she hangs up. I really love MS about now.
