ok, well idk bout you guys but how many people are actually going to stand infront of their friends and sing the lyrics to a song?
idk i just think that the vox portion of this game is going to be the weakest because i doubt any one will want to play it.
also, does it judge by whether or not your timing and lyrics are right, or if your voice doesnt sound like ozzys or whoevers do you fail?
one last thing,
i seriously doubt that there are going to be any death metal or doom songs on here due to teh vox but, any body think there will be?
suggestions.

It will be about :
Timing
Note / Long Note ( High or low )
Say the right word
On expert, singing will be hard lol ( i imagine ), good singer are rare.
I dont think you will have to "sound like" the singer, but to sing the song right ( Note and words )

Time it, make your voice high or low to match the notes, and say the words and you got it. It doesn't matter how good you sing or if you sound like Ozzy. Play Karaoke Revolution

I could care less about the mic, I'd be happy with two guitars to be honest.

well i would play KR but i just dont like singin in front of people or by myself so yep.
ive been told i can sing good, and death growl gr8 but i SERIOUSLY doubt were gonna get any doom, or death metal.
but yeah im with the last guy, i think ill be good with bass, guitar and drums.
(tho i am VERY dissapointed that theres not gonna be a bass game, and that there are no bass heavy songs, cuz i play bass)
oh one more thing,
Angel of Death, perfect rock band song, am i right or am i right?
awesome guitar, gr8 bass, crazy hard drums, and vocals that also add an encredible challenge, i think itd be perfect. any takers?
(ok yeah that or sum dragonforce, thatd be awesome)

My closest Gamestop is in the same mall as a Guitar Center, so if it doesn't come with a mic stand...
(You don't need a third party developer for a product that's already available in any good music store)

I actually wonder how hard it will be for singers to find a band online... assuming that you can choose which band positions are open to play, I get the sneaking feeling that many people will tire of bad vocalists (heck, maybe even good vocalists) and prefer to just play using the original/cover singer.

hm you bring up a good point.
idk, i think that vox is going to be the most little used instrement(?) in this game, because idk....
i just think that most would rather pick up some stix or a guitar and play than sing in front of people.
hm idk, but your right the online vox will probley be in short supply and most likely die out soon.
idk bout you guys but day ONE i am going to get online and start building a band.
if i play with some one and i like the way they play and their good, then ill send them a friend request.
also, just an idea, but i think itd be gr8 to have an online "Band" feature. sorta like clans in halo, where you can ask people to join your special group, also that way if your vocalist, or drummer isnt online then you can have back up players on tap, so to speak.

no offence but a BASS game would be the most ******ed game ever..unless its filled with "red hot chili peppers" songs or RATM then the game would be useless.

There are certainly a number of Guitar Hero players who have no interest in the singing game.
But there are also a lot of Karaoke Revolution players who have no interest in the guitar stuff. My wife, for one.
I am really excited about Rock Band letting us all play together.
Most people aren't going to master all four parts in Rock Band. You're going to see people specialize in what they enjoy, and rock out together with people who like to focus on different instruments.

I hope to see more chick-friendly songs in the setlist. My wife isn't really going to be belting out Paranoid all day.

Some people like to sing in front of people !! lol
Like me ! Singing Ghostbuster in a Karaoke bar, with drunken people is cool !
But the mic will be often the "last choice" lol. But for party !! For like 20 or 30 people, this game will rock out !!!!!!!
It would be the best party game ever ! Every body could sing or "play guitar" or "play drum". Other will talk and drink beeer and "Boooooooo" player when they failed lol.

I think I'd do either guitar or vocals, because I sing in a real band too, and my Guitar hero skills aren't too bad either (few 5 stars on expert..)I hope people don't think the game is sh*tty cause there's bad vocalists, or no one prepared to do it..'cause I am...

well to the guy that said a bass game would be stupid, then i sort of agree.
its a ****ing travesty that so many music genres i love put bass on second fiddle. but hell thats life.
and yep, idk i gess ill just get over it and sing, im gonna try and play all of the parts at one time or another so it should be fun.

I'm buying the guitar and the mic i think..plus the game...phew, I really need cash then..maybe I'll buy the full pack if there's gonna be one, but IS there even a bass guitar? because I saw theres a guitar, drums, and mic in some pack, so no bass?

The guitar peripheral doubles as a bass guitar, like the SG and Explorer did with GHII

I was saying the other day on another thread (can't remember which one) that due to latency problems it may be impossible to hear the vox when playing online. They can get around latency issues with the other instruments using special software, but getting the audio of the singer to match up to the music is a lot harder, not to mention it would have to be streaming actual audio data. I don;t know if they can compress the audio into a small enough size to stream and have no lag though. I'm thinking you'll just hear the original.

I know. Bass is the best instrument there is IMO.

****ing right,
man idk, but bass is so under appreciated in todays music when it dont have to be. i go to underground shows every week and i see alot of bass players gettin sounds outta their guitars that i cant even figure out. ive hear this one guy make his sound like an organ with a lil distortion and the right fingering/pressure.
i mean, you can get any thing from a low growl outta a bass to a mid riff, it awesome and it can get really versitile but no one wants to apply that to music nowa days.
but like this one guy told me, bass is a subtle instrement, you dont so much as hear it as much as you feel it. it puts the body in the song, and if you take it out then the music sounds flat and just not complete. bass is what you head bang to, its what you feel when your standing infront of an amp, bass is the meat in the music.
couldnt agree more.

I look forward to the vocal portion of the game, but there are two problems I can think of.
1. I doubt its going to show you what notes to sing, most people don't know how to sing a particular note, so your going to have to know the song in order to win.
2. How will the different difficulty work. You can't sing less words than are actually in the song. Frankly I can't see the vocal portion being very hard at all.

I imagine the vocal portion of the game will be almost exactly like that of Karaoke Revolution (as was previously said). If you haven't played it, it looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLBMrhQ8ydE
As you can see, the mic detects your pitch and moves the arrow at the left up and down accordingly, and the idea is to sing the right pitch so the arrow goes through the line above the lyrics. As far as difficulty levels, I'm not 100% sure how K.R. handles them, but I think that lower levels just judge less harshly on how close you are to the actual not. For harder difficulties you need to be closer to the actual note to pass. A friend of mine who plays it told me you don't actually even have to sing the lyrics, you just have to hum at the correct pitch and the game will accept it.
I imagine Rock Band will do something similar to this. I doubt they'll require you to sing the correct lyric, like some people have mentioned. There would have to be quite a bit of processing of the audio input (from the mic) in order to tell what word you actually said. I would be surprised if they used anything other than the pitch you sing to determine scoring.
I can't comment on the actual interface for Rock Band, but again, I wouldn't be surprised if looked very similar to K.R. The biggest thing I'm wondering about, is how they're gong to fit the 4 different user interfaces on the screen at once. That should certainly be interesting.

I doubt they'll require you to sing the correct lyric, like some people have mentioned.
In the Game Informer article, Harmonix said they will do phonetic processing on the mike input, so unlike Karaoke Revolution they will judge lyrics in addition to pitch.

While really good singers may be in short supply, I highly doubt it will "die out." Have you seen how many people audition for American Idol? And plenty of places still have karaoke nights. Trust me, lots of people are willing to get up and sing in front of strangers. Personally, I'd prefer there to be less singers, since that would probably mean less bad singers. Meaning people who can actually carry a tune might get better band options. I really hope there's some sort of rating system for people we've played with.

I'm eager to see how the vox part turns out, but there is a karyoke revolution game? probably same way as that (don't ask me how that works, I haven't played it).
Anyway, as for finding singers, ya, it may be the weakest instrument, but even tho I'm more interested in guitar, I'd give vox a shot. It's just like DDR the first time ya play it, especially if your friends are there, everyones shy at first, then ya become more and more comfortable :)

I think that the vox will be a great addition.
Also, I dont know if it was answered (didnt read pg 2), but the cheapest mic stand at my local music store runs about 30 bucks. (I know, my band paid that much for 1 mic)

Well I like singing, being in chorus and what not. Even if no one else wants to sing, I'll have fun with it, plus it'll help me practice. Granted I'll probably be playing guitar at the same time.

i think the singing part is going to be awesome. This will teach people about pitch, timing, holding, etc. Im def going to shoot for the vocal and guitar in this game.Hell more than likely i will do both
