Is GHIII online pretty smooth in terms of lag? Any tenth of a second that anyone has needed to get used to? I always thought it would be hard to get games like Guitar Hero online because it's a rhythm game, but thinking about it now I don't think it's near as hard as Madden or Halo since those games have craploads of textures and layouts to load while RB and GH are quite simple with just a rectangle box scrolling down with a song playing. Hell, if they had to take out the animated guys in the back for online mode to prevent lag, I'd say hell yeah.

There's been no lag for me with GHIII, when I actually manage to get into a game. I've given up even trying to play it online. I have to try and join games about 30 or 40 times (no exagerration) before I manage to get into a game, then half the time the person just quits either just before we start or halfway through the song, cue another 20 minutes of me swearing and cursing as I try to join another game and then eventually turning off the PS3 before I end up breaking the controller because i need it or bass in Rock Band. *sigh* GHIII is already gathering dust on my shelf, and I've had it less than a week.

In a couple of the article/interviews with Harmonix, they talk about some special patented new protocols they've got to eliminate lag and do 'net synch-up with online players. Essentially it is all a means to trick the systems into thinking they're all playing together, when in reality you might be out of synch, but it won't matter 'cause at least on *your* system you'll hear everything as synched up. It is all done under the hood, so who cares. To us (the players) it all looks seamless, so we never notice it.

They're pretty proud of it, and they've taken pains to secure rights to it.

So I have every faith in the world that Rock Band is going to provide online players with a ton of functional playability ... so long as the interface and boards don't crash in the first few days after launch. I'd say that there is a good possibility that, just due to standard birthing pains, we might see some initial hiccups.

Give it a week, or ten days, and everything should be perfect.

Or who knows. Things might launch perfectly, and it'll be smooth sailing from that point on (knock on wood)!

^ exactly why u cant hear singers online.

It's a good thing, there's no other way to get around the lag and like you said, it seems exactly the same for the player even if its somewhat simulated.

I have played GH3 online a few times (only with a friend, not interested in playing with/against random people) and it was lagfree and worked fine.
