http://www.gamerevolver.com/article-67-Rock-Band-Reviewed.html

Presentation: 9.0
Graphics: 8.5
Sound: 10.0
Gameplay: 10.0
Replay Value: 10.0
Fun Factor: 10.0

Overall: 9.6

A few highlights:

"Harmonix and MTV Games have created the most incredible, most mind numbing, pulse heightening music game we have ever witnessed."

"The monstrous, 4 drum set that is included in the special edition kit is what has had gamers around the world talking for months now. It is no surprise that this portion is polished into a finely tuned, sticking flicking, skin wailing good time that can only be reported as perfection."

"The online support is nothing terrific."

"Although Rock Band is not breaking any new ground in the graphics category, it is certainly holding its own. The game looks terrific and plays just as well."

The game "give[s] the GH series something to be scared of."

If the worst score they can give is for graphics, we're all in good shape... because IMHO they're gorgeous.

"The downfall is, this will take some getting used to from the GH style guitars as veterans of the series may have trouble finding where there hand is at on the keys since there is not a raised portion to help guide you."

this is what they say - but it's not true, there are little brail like dots for finding your place.

automatic FAIL.

I used the Rock Band guitar and never really lost my place, at this point in my playing, I don't even use the raised part to keep track of where my hand is, I just know where it is.

Anyways, I think we can expect to see scores like this for the most part, I'll be shocked if Rock Band receives lower than an equivalent to a 9/10 from everyone.

Ummm, why is the screenshot that's on the first page from GH2 (or maybe that's old school GH1, not sure)? Is that intentional? It's not labeled that I saw.

"The online support is nothing terrific, there are no death matches or capture the flag..."

...what? o.O

This review is kinda phoning it in. They don't say anything we didn't already know, they don't go into any impressive detail, and they completely omit BWT mode. (Breaks no new ground, huh?) I think they skimmed the game.

But... a good score is a good score, in this metacritic focused internets.

what a terrible review. not only is its research abismal (copyright infringement regarding the mic? uh.. karaoke rev?), it could also just as easily be talking about the demo. nothing about the charcreation, BWT mode, singleplayer tiers, scoring system, online play, or yknow.. anything else that has to do with actual gameplay and couldnt be distilled from all the previews out there (or even this site).

gg

[edit] so, basically what hexcoda said :)

honestly I do not even think they played the game.

This seems more like a preview than an actual review. They might as well have written it based on the demos, for all the detail they go into. No wonder I'd never heard of this websit before; if all of their reviews are this insubstantial, it's a wonder they have an audience at all.

I too was confused by the mention of "deathmatch" and "capture the flag". What the hell is the point of even bringing those things up? They bear no relevance whatsoever to the game at hand. What a mess.

Edit: Also, why mention the "assortment of characters" when there's a fracking character creation system? Jeez-o-pete.

Maybe it's just me, but the site has crashed with an "account temporarily suspended" page coming up in its place. Not like I missed anything by being denied a read of the review, apparently, but at least I would have something specific from the content to be witty about. Instead--I've got nothing.

Nothing but an overwhelming desire for tomorrow to be November 20th.

Someone didn't pay their bills.

Or do their research.

Or play the game they reviewed.

Sounds like they copied and pasted from a GH3 review.

Disclaimer.

I didn't say it was a good review. Or a thoughtful review. Or even a relevant review. Just a review. The only one, as of right now, that doesn't need to be scanned for me to read.

I agree, CTF has been ignored in the rhythm-game genre for too long. I'm quite disappointed with HMX for not including this feature.

Did anyone happen to copy the review.

Even though it's terrible, I'd like to read it.

I agree. And why no PBM / PBEM options? Somebody dropped the ball here.

There's only four weapons. Four! And you can't switch between them during a match, either! This is completely unacceptable.

It's GHII, you can tell by the meters on the screen. Since they were talking about the competition, I guess it makes sense, but Rock Band was never in competiton with GHII. You know, the same guys made both. But maybe that is why they included the pic. That or they just really didn't do any background research before playing/reviewing the game.

LOL, over at the other site I am always at N4G.com I just laid this guy out as he posted his review to N4G and also commented on the story....So I took the chance to correct him. Feel free to pile on and/or fill in anything I missed.

Trust me, you really don't. But it's back up now. The equivalent of an 8th grader remembering at 9:00 that he has a book report due the next day on a book he hasn't even started reading, so he basically takes bits and pieces from the summary on the inside book cover and fills it in with independent thoughts that leave no doubt he hasn't the slightest freaking clue what he's talking about.

"Catcher in the Rye"

Holden Caulfield plays catcher for his high school team, but the school doesn't have money for a baseball diamond, so they play in a rye field...

And I agree - if all they can criticize is the graphics (which I am in love with as well), then it will be money well spent.

Good review i guess , but it isn't really that hard to get used to the guitar and the graphics are sweet :)

Laughably bad review. I'm convinced that the writer either barely played a demo or is 12 years old.

Jack I totally agree with you as well as the others! Not breaking new ground? THAT IS TOTAL BS!!! Harmonix is doing things with this game that is totally ground breaking and has never been done! All I have to say is GH Series look out! Activision Harmonix is about to proove that the Master always defeats the student!

Just think, if they rated it 9.6 while ignoring BWT and DLC, imagine how awesome the game will be!

LMAO, The guy actually went back and changed some parts of the review after I called BS on the review. He claims he just published it and didn't personally write/review it. None the less you will see in my comment that some of the quotes I took from the original review no longer exist in the updated review.

Yes, no Band vs Band CTF is a big let down.
