In GH the guitar made an ugly pinging sound when you played a note not on time thus bringing you Rock Meter down. Will there be any meter penalties for playing when you're not supposed to on the drums? The drums doesn't make any annoying pinging sounds or anything. How will it work?

Before the first notes begin, you can play whatever you want on the drums. Of course, there's the free fills, and the big endings. But you do get penalized in the middle of the song. Instead of the pinging noises, you hear drumsticks clacking.

I would imagine there will be a penalty for playing when you're not supposed to. As much fun as randomly bashing on the drums is... it's just not very musical! Hopefully there won't be too many irritating sound effects for doing so though.
You do have the drum fills and the jamming session at the end though, that's going to be fun.

The audio options should have adjustments for:
-Guitar
-Bass
-Drums
-Vocals
-Mistakes (missed notes)
-Crowd
Not sure what Rock Band has but I know GH games only have: Guitar, Band, Sound FX (crowd, missed notes).

THIS annoyed me to no end. i hated the clinking screeching noise. i know when i messed up cause my multi would end. so when playing alone i would turn them off. or they would drive me nuts. but then you couldn't hear the crowd and what not. little things like that can really get on peoples nerves after a while. it's such a simple little option why couldn't they do it?!
